Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments While I could see the author’s fingerprints in some parts and I never completely gave up on my first (correct) guess on the serial killer’s identity, A Flicker in the Dark by American author, Stacy Willingham is definitely a page-turner. It might be wise to pre-book a chiropractic appointment before starting this one: there are some excellent twists and surprises, making this a very impressive debut novel.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments It's hard to go wrong with a Monica McInerney novel, and I especially loved the print version of Hello from the Gillespies, and not just because I'm one of those Christmas Newsletter writers. Ulli Birve's narration of the audio is excellent.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Even though I had previously read some of the short stories that Mick Herron has included in this collection, Dolphin junction, I read them all again, because anything by this author is such a pleasure to read, and a Jackson Lamb story, and four Zoe Boehm stories, well, who can resist?

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I enjoyed Isaac Asimov's aptly named short story The Gentle Vultures about aliens waiting for us to blow ourselves to kingdom come. I share his anti-nuclear-war sentiments.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Another in the Little People/BIG DREAMS series for children is the stunningly colourful Pablo Picasso by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. The illustrations by Teresa Bellón are outrageously wild - as was the artist himself, of course. Loved it!
Pablo Picasso by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara 5★ Link to my Pablo Picasso review with several of the striking, detailed illustrations

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Fans will say that Alexander McCall Smith never fails to delight, and this is true of the first book in his Paul Stewart series, My Italian Bulldozer. I loved the print version, and Sir Timothy Ackroyd's rendition of the audio is excellent.

Carolyn | 9836 comments My review for A Room Full of Bones (Ruth Galloway, #4) by Elly Griffiths A Room Full of Bones by Elly Griffiths. Not my favourite of the series so far. Too much going on I think plus Ruth wasn't involved in any investigations.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments I didn't quite love The Land of Short Sentences by Danish author Stine Pilgaard as much as I'd hoped from the blurb, but still a quirky read. ( Sadly, no quote marks for speech :[ )

Andrea | 2163 comments Honeybee by AA Craig Silvey is one of a handful of books that made it onto my TBR because of The Books that Made Us (the ABC doco series from late last year). A worthwhile read.

Carolyn | 9836 comments Juhea Kim's debut novel Beasts of a Little Land by Juhea Kim Beasts of a Little Land is a fascinating look at Korea under Japanese occupation, told through the lives of two children, a young girl who grows up to become a courtesan and actress and an orphan peasant boy who becomes a fighter for Korean independence.

Read by the author her voice is warm and honest, funny and never self pitying.
