PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I loved Douglas Stuart's latest book, Young Mungo, about a gentle teen-aged lad who discovers love in the bleakness of Glasgow's East End. The author knows from his own experience that there are roses among the thorns.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments HAPPY INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY which is celebrated on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday. Born 202 years ago, this most remarkable woman changed nursing around the world. The Lady of the Lamp is still a role model, and I hope this children's book will inspire more kids to go into into nursing.
Florence Nightingale by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara 5★ My review of Florence Nightingale with several illustrations

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I recently finished the audiobook version of When the Sahara Was Green: How Our Greatest Desert Came to Be by Martin Williams

Apparently the author lives in Australia, and I thought I might mention it here. Really good book, for anyone interested in geology or environmental books but maybe better as a 'real' book than as an audio.

This didn't get good reviews or comments from others but I enjoyed it a lot, stuck inside with perpetual rain a good escape novel
And I gave it 5 stars maybe a little overzealous?
