I finished it and felt the same. It was not at all what I was expecting.

Karolyn | 271 comments Does anyone have an idea how to tackle the Draw 2 in Hand 8? I’ve been looking for a book that would work for a 4 and a 6 for the mini swap and am not having much luck.

I honestly don't even know how to feel about it. Like I am stuck in between thinking it was brilliant and thinking it was odd.

Good catch. I didn't even notice that Draw 2 there. Well, maybe there is something we can move around that's already been ready that could fill the Draw 2. Let me look through and see what might be able to me moved around.

Right? Same. I think I'm tipping closer to the brilliant side though. I was feeling pretty emotional by the end, and I loved the author's note at the end.

If it got you all emotional then I would definitely say brilliant. For now, I'm still giving it 3-stars because I'm all over the place lol.

5* for me

the plot kept me guessing as we went along
felt it had some real moments of tension, but ending was quite sensitive

definitely will stay with me for some time - which is a good sign

Angela | 655 comments I find it interesting that this booked was marketed as horror. While I do think there were some creepy scenes I wouldn't classify it as horror.

I finished the book yesterday and loved it. I was on the side of thinking it was absolutely brilliant. I don't want to put out any spoilers for those still reading it though. :)

Yeah, I don't think it was horror, it was more of a psychological mystery thriller.

Always good to have alternates listed if you're able to go through and fill them. Narsku and I may end up shifting things around depending on the situation.

i have read #1 in the Poirot series, and i really enjoyed it! because it was Christie's first Poirot, i can only imagine the rest of the series will get better, as i felt the first novel had an introductory element to it (getting introduced to the two main characters, personalities, etc.) i also felt unsure of if i liked the fact that everything is explained at the end in a final chapter or not. i am planning on continuing the series, but i have heard that "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile" are her best from the series :)

Angela | 655 comments I could use some help. I am home next week and then have to fly to Dallas for a week and then a few days later I am in D.C. for a week. I HATE flying. I have been doing it regularly since I was a small child and still hate it.

I am looking for some recs of page turning books. It doesn't matter the genre, I just need to keep my mind busy by flipping through pages of books that I do not want to put down.

What have you got for me? :)

Ooo, tough! My sort of page turners are high action high fantasy stuff which usually other people find dense. So, I'm not sure that's what you'd want on a plane. For a traditional thriller suggestion, I'd say Shiver by Allie Reynolds, Three Graves Full by Jamie Mason, and Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child (I know it's book 2, but it's not necessary to read book 1 at all and Terminal Freeze was the best).

Shiver by Allie Reynolds Three Graves Full by Jamie Mason Terminal Freeze (Jeremy Logan, #2) by Lincoln Child

I'm not sure what you have read, but a page-turner for me would be something like Dark Matter or Recursion by Blake Crouch. Or maybe something like House of Leaves since it's pretty chunky and will keep you going for a while?

A few of my go to’s are Agatha Christie and Tana French. But I like suspense/crime type stuff quite a bit. I’ve also used flights (I don’t like flying either) for rereads that I haven’t been a lie to make time for. You’ve got this!!!

I find I'm going more and more to audio books when travelling,
some recent highlights for me

Sci-Fi: Adrian Tchaikovsky - Children of Time or The Doors of Eden

Whimsical murder mystery: The Man Who Died Twice - book #2 of Thursday Murder Club and far superior to book #1 for me

or police procedural series where the indulgent Mediterranean lifestyle and diet feature heavily The Shape of Water (#1 in the Montalbano series)

another great audio book I read late last year and is on your to-read list
Sharks in the Time of Saviors by Kawai Strong Washburn
gritty poverty and striving for better life with a dash of magical realism
loved it

Yeah, it took me a really long time to read it because of all the added footnotes and stuff. I do plan on re-reading it though so maybe it will be better the second time around?

I have read both by Blake Crouch but I think I have a copy of his new book so I may try that. Also, House of Leaves is a good rec and I already have that one on my kindle.

I bought book #1 of The Thursday Murder Club which is originally what I thought I would take on my trip. So I skip that for a plane ride?

I have Sharks in the Time of Saviors sitting on my shelf upstairs just staring at me so this be also be a contender.
