Hi Alyssa!
You're welcome. My picks are some of the more popular romances. You may come across them again. Enjoy Hating Game...it's lots of fun!

message 59: by Romanticbookworm (new)

Romanticbookworm | 410 comments Hi Nancy here are your picks for this month :).

1) September, or ”Septem”, meaning seven in Latin, based on the oldest known Roman calendars, was originally the seventh of ten months. Modern Julian and Georgian calendars place September as the ninth month of the year while September is the sixth month on the astrological calendar. September consisted of 29 days until the Julian reform, which added a day.
Recommend a book with any combination of the numbers 2, 6, 7 or 9 in the title, series or publication date, or with an orange cover, or with an Historical tag.

TBR - This Could Change Everything This Could Change Everything by Jill Mansell ( orange cover)

NEW- Trial by Fire Trial by Fire (Firefighters of Station Five, #1) by Jo Davis ( orange cover)

2) The Sapphire is September’s birthstone, which was once thought to guard against evil and poisoning. They are also thought to encourage divine wisdom and protection. They symbolize purity, truth, trust and loyalty. The Sapphire, along with the related ruby, are the second-hardest natural gemstone after the diamond.
Recommend a book with a necklace on the cover, or with a blue cover or with a character that is considered tough or strong (your interpretation).

TBR -Bright Young Dead Bright Young Dead (The Mitford Murders #2) by Jessica Fellowes -(Blue Cover)

New- Brutal Prince Brutal Prince (Brutal Birthright #1) by Sophie Lark - Strong Female (Recently read and loved it :).)

3) The September Equinox occurs in September (DUH!). In the Northern Hemisphere this is called the Autumn Equinox, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it is referred to as the Vernal Equinox. This is the moment when the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator, heading south. At this point, the length of daytime is almost exactly equal to the length of nighttime.
Recommend a book with a sky on the cover, or with a character who studies or is interested in Science or a book that is published in a ‘Fall’ month (September, October or November).

TBR - I See You I See You (Arrington Mysteries, #1) by Elle Gray (Published in Fall)

NEW -Bestselling Bastard Bestselling Bastard (Cocky Hero Club) by Nicole Rodrigues - (Published in Fall - This one sounds good and also added to my own TBR)

4) September, the Romans believed, was looked after by the god, Vulcan. As the god of fire and forge, the Romans expected September to be associated with fires, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
Recommend a book with a ‘fiery’ cover (your interpretation), or with a naturally occurring event in the story (your interpretation) or with a Paranormal or Fantasy tag.

TBR - White Nights White Nights (Shetland Island, #2) by Ann Cleeves ( Nature on Cover)

NEW- Forged In Fire Forged in Fire (Red-Hot SEALs, #1) by Trish McCallan - (Fiery Cover)

5) The Anglo-Saxons called September Gerst Monath (Barley month) because it was the time when they would harvest their barley to make into their favorite drink – barley brew!
Recommend a book with food or beverages in the story or on the cover, with a yellow or brown cover or with a funny or humorous story or character (your interpretation).

TBR -Peaches and Scream Peaches and Scream (Georgia Peach Mystery, #1) by Susan Furlong - ( Food on cover)

NEW - Sweet Talk Sweet Talk (Bakery Sisters, #1) by Susan Mallery ( Bakery Romance)

6) September’s birth flowers are the Forget-Me-Not, Aster and Morning Glory. All have varying shades of blues, indigos and violets. The aster signifies powerful love and the morning glory symbolizes affection. The forget-me-not symbolizes true love.
Recommend a book with flowers on the cover or in the story, or with a couple you felt had an instant or powerful connection or with a purple cover.

TBR - It All Comes Back To You It All Comes Back to You by Beth Duke ( Flowers on Cover)

NEW -Beauty Beauty (Folktales, #1) by Robin McKinley - Flowers on cover - I love this book an all time favourite :).

7) Virgo is the primary Zodiac sign for September, until the 22nd when Libra takes over. Virgos are an earth sign, represented by the goddess of wheat and agriculture. They are logical, practical and systematic in their approach to life. Libra is an air sign that is represented by scales. Libras are obsessed with symmetry and strive to create equilibrium in all areas of life.
Recommend a book with a female main character, or with a symmetrical cover (your interpretation), or with an even number in the page count or publication date.

TBR - Cold Truth Cold Truth (Ellie Kline #1) by Mary Stone (female main character)

NEW -Bitten Bitten (Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong ( Female main character)

8) September has some fun folklore. Here are just a few:
”Heavy September rains bring drought.”
“Married in September’s golden glow, smooth and serene your life will go.”
“If the storms of September clear off warm, the storms of the following winter will be warm>”
“Fair on September 1st, fair for the month.”
Recommend a book with water or rain on the cover, or with a wedding or celebration in the story, or with a 1 in the page count or publication date.

TBR - Bookseller The Bookseller (Hugo Marston, #1) by Mark Pryor - Water on cover

NEW - Repeat Offender Repeat Offender (Souls Chapel Revenants MC, #1) by Lani Lynn Vale _Published Jan 2021

Thanks Alyssa I'm not sure if I have songs of Achilles anymore I might have unhauled it when I moved but I will most likely read either Percy Jackson , merciual or shadow and bone. I might
also might read Sarah j Maas although will use the series rule and go with throne of glass as I understand the series are connected. Thanks for the picks 🙂

Alyssa | 55 comments Hi again Romanticbookworm :)
These are all great reads i hope you’ll enjoy them !
Actually, throne of glass and acotar are both set in the same universe but not the same worlds (all the posts about them being connected are theories)
So it’s totally fine to start off with ACOTAR.
That’s what i did and i rlly enjoyed them both !

message 75: by Adi Rocks Socks (new)

Adi Rocks Socks (adirockssocks) | 113 comments Hi Sonja! ♥️ You’ve always recommended really great books to me, and I’m going to try my best — I really hope you like at least one of them, lol. 😄

1) September, or ”Septem”
TBR: An Earl, the Girl, and a Toddler — historical — this looks so cute! 🥰
New: Untamed — historical, orange cover, and set in historical Scotland.

2) The Sapphire
TBR: The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels — blue on the cover
New: Know My Name — the cover is teal, but more importantly, this is the memoir of one of the strongest people I’ve ever heard about. TW: Sexual assault, depression, mental health issues. Not sure if this is something you’d read, but I do think you’d be able to relate it to real life events seeing as you live in the same American state. (Not mentioning the place to respect your privacy 🙈🙈) interesting fact: the cover art depicts kintsugi, a Japanese art where broken pottery is made stronger by melding it together with gold.

3) The September Equinox
TBR: Rocket Science — MC is an aerospace engineer.
New: Searching for Perfect — I absolutely loved this book when I read it a few years ago, I still think of the book very fondly. 😭 MC is a rocket scientist.

4) Vulcan
TBR: Vanessa Yu's Magical Paris Tea Shop — fantasy
New: Master of Salt & Bones — fantasy — haven’t read it myself, but it comes highly recommended to me by a goodreads friend.

5) The Anglo-Saxons
TBR: Love & Gelato — icecream is food, right? 😋
New: The Opposite of You — the two MCs are chefs, so there’s always food in the conversation. 😎 I hope you love this book as much as I did.

6) September’s birth flowers
TBR: Hang the Moon — the cover looks purple to me
New: The Scarlet Pimpernel — again, a book that comes highly recommended by real life friends. They even got me a copy for my birthday. It’s historical, I think you’ll like it. 🥰 (flowers on the cover and in the title!)

7) Virgo
TBR: The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels & Other Gentlemen — looks like the MC identifies as a female, from the blurb!
New: We Are Family — female MC — I enjoyed this book and I think you will too; it focuses on the sisterly bond more than the romance.

8) September has some fun folklore.
TBR: Happy Ever After — weddings!! 😄
New: First Comes Marriage — I see that you’ve liked other Mary Balogh books in the past — this is the first HR novel I ever read, and though I gave it 3 stars, I loved the world and the series and got addicted to it! Read the first three books of the quintet in four days. 😄

Yes! Finished my first book in one day!

The Dating Plan by Sara Desai

The Dating Plan was everything I love in a romance. Witty banter, twists and turns, and the occasional hot love scene 😉. Thanks for your impeccable picks. On to the next one!

Nancy H | 1111 comments Hi Romanticbookworm,
I finished your pick for me, This Could Change Everything This Could Change Everything by Jill Mansell , in less than a day! It is a WONDERFUL book! I have had it on my TBR for a long time and now wish I had read it sooner because it is SO good. Thank you for the nudge to get to it!

P.S. The cover of the edition I had is different than the cover on the one you recommended, in case you don't remember seeing this cover - lol.
