Horizon’s words do nothing this time. Nuska just ignores them and advances towards her. Dang it. Where are those pesky Capitol guards when you need them? Now would be a good time for one to barge in here. Or Persephone. Or even Max. So far, her attempts at buying time have done nothing but earn her a bullet in the leg, which is definitely not an improvement.
But then a thought flashes through Horizon’s mind. What if… What if they couldn’t come? Nuska was here, leader of the rebellion. Did that mean more rebels were here, too? Could the other Gamemakers be busy with them somewhere else? Or — Horizon hates the thought, but it might very well be true — could they even be dead…?
As Nuska closes the distance, Rize finds herself shifting her body as if in self defense, but even moving slightly sends fire spiking up her leg. But that’s nothing. The next moment Nuska drags her across the room and into a chair. Horizon fights not to black out by the sudden and rough movements, hissing in a breath. Nuska was smart to take out her leg. If not distracted by the pain, Rize would’ve tried to use the metal in close quarters. Sure, it was point blank, but that was only if Nuska had her gun. Unfortunately, holding in a strangled yelp took a lot more concentration than supposed.
Nuska activates the hologram and Horizon can only watch. She hopes anything important would be difficult to find, but doubts they’d be so lucky. Out of the corner of her eye, Rize notices Kalisse dragging herself across the room. Nuska doesn’t. Horizon feels her heart tighten. Kalisse may have lied about everything, may’ve come as a traitor, may’ve planned to kill her, but did she really deserve this? Yes, yes she did. But something in Horizon tries to convince her otherwise.
It’s too late for that, though. Most likely they were both going to die at the hands of this maniac, unless…
Unless.
Horizon feels the cool metal clenched in her hand. Her grip is so tight and the edge sharp that it’s cutting into her hand, but she’s hardly noticed.
Suddenly, she’s not so sure. Would a little scrap like this really do any good against a girl with a gun? Probably not. Is she still going to try? Maybe. Will she probably die? Most likely.
But again, Kalisse catches her eye. Now having pulled herself into the seat beside her, the other girl reaches out. Horizon narrows her eyes, watching Kalisse’s hand. It comes towards her. It’s moving towards her own hands… Rize holds her breath. She saw. She knows. Her grip on the shard tightens, only deepening the cuts. What is she…? Panic shoots through her, afraid that Kalisse will give her away. Afraid that she’ll tell Nuska, ruining Horizon’s only chance. But… she hasn’t said anything yet, just looked at Rize with pleading eyes. And Nuska did shoot her as well…
So whose side is Kalisse on? Horizon’s? Nuska’s? Her own? What was she planning to do…?
Rize couldn’t give her the shard. It was her last chance, and there was no telling what Kalisse is going to do with it. But what Horizon would do can’t be much better. Steeling her nerves, she loosens her grip on the metal shard and slowly moves her arm to meet Kalisse’s. Carefully, she adjusts her grip on the now blood-covered object, still keeping it hidden, but allowing Kalisse to receive it. As it leaves her hand, Horizon feels her chest tighten.
Don’t make me regret this…

Kalisse almost freezes when Horizon hands her the small weapon. She can hardly believe that Horizon trusts her. That Horizon is giving her a chance. But she knows she doesn't have time to savor the moment - Nuska is getting impatient and is certainly not appreciating the fact that Horizon is stalling. Not wanting to have Horizon end up with a bullet in the other leg, she moves quickly. She knows Nuska's goal, and she knows how to stop it. And Nuska, like she's always been, is too confident.
It's really almost too easy.
Kalisse dives the sharp metal piece into the central drive that connects all the Games Controls to each other. The central drive does a screechy sound before puffing out smoke. A second after and the hologram at the table shuts down.
Nuska turns to Kalisse, eyes widened in shock, and most of all anger. Disappointment.
But no, Kalisse isn't going to let her crush her again. Kalisse throws herself at Nuska, making her tumble to the ground, before wedging the metal piece into Nuska's hand. Nuska howls in pain and drops the the gun, clutching her wounded hand.
Kalisse's leg is practically screaming in pain at this point, and she doesn't have the strength to reach out to Nuska's gun. She can only hope that Horizon will do it, as she slowly, slowly loses consciousness.
(BYE idk what in the name of hell ive written, my brain is not functioning and i haven’t had any sleep..let me see if i can fix the stuff that needs lol i feel so fucking stupid)
