As I interpret it, the book has to deal with some sort of bad weather, not that you have to read it during bad weather, if that makes things easier for you :)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I think I'm going to try getting The Hunger by Alma Katsu (Blizzard) as my third book for this challenge.

message 57: by Netanella (last edited Mar 08, 2021 04:18PM) (new)

Netanella | 572 comments Our current BOTM #2, Colony by Benjamin Cross, has bad weather as a plot element. The creatures prefer to stalk their human prey when the mist settles in on the frozen islands of Franz Josef Land.

message 58: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments Life As We Knew It this is a YA novel about life after a meteor strikes the moon changing the weather of the world. You name it, this book has it. Floods, volcanoes, earthquakes, snow, ice etc. It was a good series, although I should disclose, I only read the first two books in the series.

message 59: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments This is becoming a habit with me, can't get into reading the beginning of the year but I'm gonna once again use this challenge to kick my behind into gear. I'm starting with 3, hope to be able to up to at least 5, we'll see.

Sarah-Grace (Azrael865) (sarah-grace) | 185 comments I will sign up for 5
Too bad I read it in February Storm of the Century is perfect for this.

4/5

1. The Fog 3/10/21
2. If It Bleeds 3/11/21
In the final story of the collection, there is a storm which isolates the main character for a crucial event in the story plot.
3. Papillon Movie Tie-in 3/27/21
Bad weather plays a large part in the first half of the events. Papillon and his companions in their escape attempts are plagued by a hurricane and and other rough weather conditions at sea in their small boat.
4. One by One 4/6/21

I just missed my last read. The Mist finished 5/2/21

4. Water Shall Refuse Them (3/18)
5. The Shuddering (3/19)
6. They Came with the Rain (3/22)

9. The Terror (4/22)
10. Earthworm Gods (4/25)

COMPLETE!

message 64: by Ami (new)

Ami Morrison | 234 comments The Shuddering and Chills both have to do with snow storms and I'm not sure if they've been brought up yet. :)

If anyone is looking for bad weather books, I just finished The Ghosts of Hexley Airport which took place mostly during snow storms.

I'd say no. They're natural disasters rather than bad weather. But it does give me an idea for another challenge later this year. :)

Reading challenges are fun in that it gets you looking at books in a different way and finding new things to read that just maybe you wouldn't have otherwise.

Laci Rambo Oh yay!! I would highly suggest No Exit by Taylor Adams. Not really Horror as much as Suspense, but it’s such a great book.

Yes! I listened to the audiobook which had a full cast -- It was great! It centers on Sasquatch, but a volcano eruption is a big aspect of the book.

It looks like we can't count volcanoes (?). I might just read it anyway. It's not like it would be the first time I didn't finish a challenge. 😂

Kathy | 41 comments I like the idea of tracking my reads here. I am using this thread for reading ideas so hopefully more people will track here too. I picked 4 books:

1. Demon Theory by Stephen Graham Jones. Horror book written as a horror film in three sequels. Each sequel starts with a blizzard on Halloween. Read 3/14/21.
2. The Carrow Haunt by Darcy Coates. Fun story of a ghost hunting expedition that goes terribly wrong. Storm (rain/lightening) gives energy to haunting. Read 3/18/21.

message 78: by [deleted user] (new)

Just starting A Winter Haunting by Dan Simmons. This will be my first of my five books for the challenge. Hope everyone is having a good weekend :)

message 79: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I have started The Hunger as my third book in this challenge. This book has all sorts of weather; drought, and blizzard being the most obvious ones. This poor group of people fought nature and each other at every turn.

message 80: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I am very much enjoying it. I am about 65% done. The supernatural aspects have been pretty subtle so far but I can see it picking up more the closer the group gets to the mountains.

I've somehow managed 3 books this month in the snow.
The Ghosts of Hexley Airport by Amy Cross
No Exit by Taylor Adams
Chills by Mary SanGiovanni

message 83: by Winter (new)

Winter Arcane (vanuslux) | 15 comments I've already knocked out half my 4 book goal with the novellas Snowblind and The Visitor.

Anyone know any other novella length weather related horror books that are on Kindle Unlimited (or at least don't cost more than a few bucks)?

I try to steer away from full length books for challenges like this because I'm weird and will read mediocre hundred page novella in a day but often take a month to get through a good 300+ page novel. It makes no sense.

I get you in this completely. For me it is award winning books. I will happily devour 3 trashy horror/sci-fi books in the time it take me to finish 1 Hugo or Stoker winning book.

Christopher Coleman has a series called They Came With The Snow that looks interesting and short. I am thinking of adding it to my list since I already completed this challenge. But I have not read it, so I make no guarantees.

This book may be a bit longer than you'd ideally want (295 pgs) but it has a blizzard in the plot and it's free! : Heaven's Peak

I'm reading Lords of Twilight by Greg Gifune, Alone by Brian Keene ( short story), Tim Curran's Blackout.

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

I have started The Fog by James Herbert as my second book for this challenge.

Hope everyone is enjoying their books :)

message 88: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I completed my three books I chose for the challenge. I have decided to read The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse . This is a Psychological Horror novel set in a former sanatorium converted to a high end hotel in the Swiss Alps. There are winter storms that lead to not one, but two avalanches leading to a hotel wide locked room mystery! I'm actually almost done with it. So far, so good!

message 89: by Kelly (last edited Apr 27, 2021 12:26AM) (new)

Kelly (kelly_marie) | 31 comments I've completed 5 of the 5 books I plan to read for the challenge:
1. The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse
2. Strange Weather by Joe Hill
3. Colony by Benjamin Cross
4. The Mist by Stephen King
5. No Exit by Taylor Adams

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

I have started The Mist by Stephen King as my third book for this challenge.

Have a great day everyone :)

message 91: by Seb (new)

Seb | 145 comments Alright, I did it! I met my challenge \o/

Following my Goodreads statistics, I read way more pages these last two months than the previous ones. I took this challenge seriously, picked up only novels, no novellas nor short stories. Here they are:

1. Storm of the Century by Stephen King (my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...)
2. The Terror by Dan Simmons (my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...)
3. The Drought by Patricia Fulton (my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...)

The first two were great but the last one I definitely do not recommend.

I'm really happy that I fulfilled my goals :-)

Alone by Brian Keene

One Rainy Night by Richard Laymon
A Cold Season by Alison Littlewood
Rain by Craig Saunders
