Hi team!Anyone has a good name?
This is going to take some planning. As unread books may break a chain I would say let's go about it slowly and surely. It may be easier to add books along the way than to remove them. what do you think?
Any one has a book with a long title or really common words to start with?
The obvious name that comes to mind for me is Team Chain Gang, or Workin' on a Chain Gang.I think you're right, Esther, about this slowly. We would probably do well to have a few strings going at once.
I was trying to figure out a book title to start with, with at least a common book title word in it. I wanted to read The Butterfly Garden and "garden" led to several possibilities, that led to books with "girl", "girls", "red", "secret".
As I got further into a string I came up with words like "good", "murder", "lies", "small", "town", "big". Pretty common words in a lot of book titles.
I can probably read/listen to 2-3 books during the week.
Names...? Erm..One chain Wonder
One chain to rule them all
Or if we want a Santana theme song "One Chain (Don't make no Prison)"
Hi everyone. This sounds like a fun and exciting toppler. It's going to be a challenge! How about "One Chain to Link them All", a take on Lord of the Rings, for a name.
Janice wrote: "How about "One Chain to Link them All", a take on Lord of the Rings, for a name."I like that one too
LOL! I see Annerlee and I are on the same wave length - She had One Chain to Rule Them All. I helps to actually read the messages before commenting.
Janice wrote: "LOL! I see Annerlee and I are on the same wave length - She had One Chain to Rule Them All. I helps to actually read the messages before commenting."Haha. I thought we'd posted at exactly the same time - that would have been cool. I like your version better,
I'm not sure how to strategize this. Should we list books we have with words that could connect and then compare?
Roz wrote: "I was trying to figure out a book title to start with, with at least a common book title word in it. I wanted to read The Butterfly Garden and "garden" led to several possibilities..."Does anyone else have books they'd set aside for a toppler? Maybe that would help us get going?
I had one called 'Adios Hemingway' but that's not going to work (lol)
I've come up with a few books, but they are all audiobooks. I'll be lucky if I can read 3 of them.Minimum Wage Magic, audiobook, 9:45
Iron and Magic , audiobook, 12:51
The Book of Lost Things, audiobook, 10:56, MC
Lost Among the Living, audiobook
Lost Empress, audiobook
Lost Man, audiobook
I got tired of fighting with the search feature. I have a whack of books with "Girl" in the title as well.
I'm thinking if we stay with the same words in our chains, then we aren't so dependent on everyone's ability to finish. So if we do a chain with "lost" in the title, then we count them as people finish them. What do you all think?
Here's some more:Kade's Dark Embrace - ebook, MC
Dark Resurrection - ebook
The Dark Heart - ebook (NF)
I could probably read 3 audiobooks and 2 ebooks, if they're short and I'm lucky.
I had This Is How You Lose the Time War it is a short one with a long title but it is on hold I am second on 7 copies so should get it. I will keep it out until I really get it.I will start a spreadsheet tomorrow. It will be easier to play and move titles around.
How about we start 2chains while we gopher and see it we can link them at some point.
I will commit to 2 books, one audio and one book. There is a strong possibility that I can get a few more in but work is crazy right now. Most of the books I have on my "to read next" are in French so that does not work for this challenge.

Do any of them have English editions? If so you could link them with the English title. If not, maybe check with Kristie. She might make allowances for literal translations.
I'd be willing to start the toppler with The Book of Lost Things for one chain, using "lost" as the link. I'd also be willing to start Kade's Dark Embrace for another chain using "Dark" as the link. Can anyone build on Lost and Dark?
oh... There is some possibilities here: Down Among the Sticks and Bones
Wherever She Goes
Murder as a Fine Art
Age of Death
Girls of Paper and Fire
The Girl on the Train
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August
I can : I have The Lost Girls of Paris!I started a spreadsheet. (link on post 1) I will make it pretty tomorrow.

I'll trawl through my books tomorrow and see how many I have that match your words. If we each come up with lists, we can maybe see books that link the lists together... and come up with a plan.
The search function has frustrated me too. I can't check book lengths because I can't find the right books! Arghh!
( I'm going to leave it for tonight. )
Esther, I've got quite a few books that would link with "Down Among the Sticks and Bones" using the word "Bone". Are we allowed plurals to match words? Bone, Bones?I have a couple of books with "Murder" in them, a couple with "Death", and a few with "Girl".
I think I can do Home Before Dark for chain 2 (dark) or The Garden of Lost Secrets for chain 1 (garden) whichever preferable
ok... Chain 1 so far,,, i like that it circle back with Lost. this means we can insert a book wherever. The Book of Lost Things
The Lost Girls of Paris
The Girls in the Garden.
The Garden of Lost Secrets
ok... I really need to go to bed. I am clicking on "post" and running away from my computer.
Janice wrote: e". Are we allowed plurals to match words? Bone, Bones?"No.
Rules state:
linked words must be exactly the same (no root words, imbedding, plurals, etc)
(Yes, I'm still here) I've been thinking about possibilities.I could read The Dark Garden to link the two lists together, if you like.
For 'dark'
Dark Echoes of the Past
On a Cold Dark Sea
Dark Clouds Over Nuala
Dark and Deadly Things
I also have a couple of other 'dark' books..
Or I can do a diversion into other things:
Dark and Deadly Things
The Deadly Mystery of the Missing Diamonds
The Ghost Who Loved Diamonds
The Ghost from the Sea
On a Cold Dark Sea
That would make room for more 'ghost', 'deadly', 'diamonds' or 'sea' books in between - if anyone had a book for those words.
I also have Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse on order. That would be a link to 'girl', but I'm not sure how many illustrations there are until it arrives.
I can read 5 books that week... I have a long weekend at the start and evenings at home.
ok I am back and human. I should know better that to try to make sense of thing late at night after a day form hell and 3 hours of sleep. so we have name!!!
Can everyone access the spreadsheet?
I am going to reread the thread and make sense of things.

Are you ok with this?

I'm okay with them.
Check your spreadsheet, "books" worksheet. You have "The Butterfly Garden" twice, once for yourself.

Do not pay atention. I am struggling with formulea. :)

Thanks. I didn't read the rules all that carefully. I just wanted to jump right in. Bad mod! I should know better.
ok... I started chains. so we are looking for words :
butterfly
cold
dark
deadly
embrace
garden
god
lost
sea
small
things
yellow
The spreadsheet looks great!I can see how we can link chain 2 to chain 1. It will be interesting how the chains will grow and evolve over the week since we can reorder them as we go. (I had to go read the rules again.)
One correction to the spreadsheet is my book is Kade's Dark Embrace, not Dark Embrace. (Yay, the search function is working again.)

Can you add lost and book to the list which will tie in with my book The Book of Lost Things?
Janice wrote: "I can see how we can link chain 2 to chain 1. It will be interesting how the chains will grow and evolve over the week since we can reorder them as we go. (I had to go..."I was tempted to do just this and start a new chain 2 with This Is How You Lose the Time War which I got this morning.
I added lost but cannot add book as it would break the chain.
My plan is as follows:Saturday -
The Book of Lost Things audiobook (start & finish)
Kade's Dark Embrace Kindle (start)
Sunday - The Lost Man (start & finish)
I will reevaluate where we are with the chains after that before selecting any more books.
I think as we go along, the lists/chains will expand and evolve. I have quite a few books that fit your list of words, Esther.
I've checked the spreadsheet. It's looking good Esther 😀. I'm happy to start with those two books, then I'll check back to the thread for my next step.
Hi guys, working up as far as message 42, here's what I can add:
dark
Dark and Deepest Red 9 hour
OR
A Curse So Dark and Lonely 15 hours
god
Vernon God Little 10 hours
Dirty Little Secrets 11 hours
The Secrets of Strangers 11 hours
lost
Lost in a Good Book 10 hours
The Book of Koli 14 hours
OR
Good Me, Bad Me 10 hours
ok. I have transferred the list of words on the 2nd post of this thread. We will not have to look for it. So far we can still do one long thread. here is a a summary of assignments / commitments, just so I have all my ducks in a row. (they are doing some dance figures right now. )
