Psychedelic dreaming for toddlers, anyone? Alice In Wonderland by words&pictures has some inventive artwork by Cynthia Alonso, including holes in the pages for peeking and for little fingers.

Bottlebrush Creek by Maya Linnellhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook of
The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue which she started writing about the Spanish flu on the 100th anniversary of that pandemic in 2018. It's hard not to compare how much has changed, but also what hasn't in our current pandemic.my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I revisited the second book in Aussie author Geoffrey McGeachin's Charlie Berlin series, Blackwattle Creek with Peter Hosking's narration giving it the perfect late 1950's vibe. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Not all audio book experiences are good ones. I love Garry Disher's books in print but I did not find Colin McPhillamy's narration of Signal Loss pleasant to listen to. Some of his pronunciation also grated. So I have abandoned this 5★ read at 16%. Sadly, 5 of the further 6 books in this series are narrated by the same man so I won't be listening to those either...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A Week to Remember is the third novel by Irish-born Aussie author, Esther Campion. Set on the Irish coast and in Tassie, this one is out Feb 23rd, a very enjoyable read.4.5★s

I've been reading the novella, Ghachar Ghochar. While I thought it was good, I also felt it had the potential to be more. It was an interesting look at what a significant (upward) change in financial circumstances could do in contemporary India.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
3.5 stars for
Then She Vanishes by Claire DouglasMy review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I was excited to receive an early copy of Debra Oswald’s new book, The Family Doctor, and I was not disappointed. This is a powerful, topical and extremely relevant read, but do have the tissues ready for some parts. Certainly my best read so far in 2021 and probably Oswald’s best yet.5★s

I really enjoyed the first book in Tara Moss's Billie Walker series, Dead Man Switch, and while I wait, fingers crossed, for #2, I thought I'd listen to the audio. Danielle Carter's voice is pleasant to listen to, even if some of her emphasis and pronunciation could improve. 5★s

Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting A bit of a departure for me: a parenting book. It's one of those "pop"-parenting / educational books that is a lot more "pop" than useful. It's greatest strength is making broad claims about certain techniques the author proposes, but refusing to provide specific references to the research that backs them up.
I'd give it 2.5★ due to the few ideas and strategies I found helpful that were mixed in with all pseudo nonsense. And I'd suggest avoiding it in general, but who knows what might work for you?

I've been wanting to branch out into different genres of writing for a while now and this was an excellent introduction.
Blueberries: Essays Concerning Understanding by Ellena SavageMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
A brilliant collection of genre-defying essays. Ellena Savage explores a myriad of topics from the lasting effects of trauma to the writing process itself.
Some of the essays were very challenging to get through, however, all were intellectually stimulating. I personally really enjoyed her discussions on class in the 21st century.
I found the best way to read this collection was one essay at a time in order to let yourself properly grapple with the ideas that Ellena Savage presented.

My review for
The Perfect Family by Aussie author Jacquie Underdown (set in Queensland)review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Shuggie Bain, the autobiographical novel by Scottish-born author Douglas Stuart, tells of a loving, queer, little boy who adores his beautiful, alcoholic mum. It is heart-breakingly wonderful! Well-deserved winner of the 2020 Booker Prize.
5★+ Link to my Shuggie Bain review
I've not read any of Jeffery Deaver's work before, so his short story Turning Point was my introduction. Loved it! Finding RDK, the Russian Doll Killer, was cleverly done.

5 stars an author with the understanding and clear insight that not all old people sit in wicker chairs in a mindless state
