I've slipped behind with her series' Carolyn. I need to fit them in!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10002 comments I was thrilled to win a copy of Michael Robotham's latest, When You Are Mine, and my only disappointment was reaching the last page. Every time I was sure I knew where this was going, it took another turn.
This novel is once again proof that the name Michael Robotham guarantees a brilliant read.

I think it's just the usual - too many books....

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10002 comments When I requested The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World by American author Matt Kracht from NetGalley, I noted it was the sequel to an apparently best-selling book, and from the blurb I was hoping for something clever and funny. Sadly, I was disappointed: the humour is rather juvenile and relies mostly on expletives and insults. There is even a fart joke, making it feel rather like it’s aimed at grade school boys. The best thing about it is the illustrations of the birds, for which it gets one star ★.

Bad luck Marianne :( I wouldn't pick it up for it's title alone!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10002 comments When I read Aussie author Jock Serong's debut novel, Quota seven years ago, I thought it was good, but Simon Harvey's narration is absolutely perfect and really enhances the reading experience.

PattyMacDotComma | 3312 comments Derek B. Miller has given Sheldon Horowitz, his elderly protagonist from Norwegian by Night, a great back story in How to Find Your Way in the Dark. Sheldon wants to kill his father's murderer, but he's only 12.
Loved it!

PattyMacDotComma | 3312 comments Indigenous Aussie author Adam Thompson's recent collection of short stories is spot-on. The fifteen stories in Born Into This take place in Tasmania, but the problems and challenges are nation-wide.

Well worth reading.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10002 comments I'm sure there will be readers to whom Chinese/American/Australian author Paige Clark's debut collection of short stories, She is Haunted, will appeal, but I found them a bit bizarre and there wasn't one among them that I really loved.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10002 comments I've never read The Canterbury Tales but that didn't stop me greatly enjoying Aussie author Karen Brooks version of the Wife of Bath, The Good Wife of Bath: A (Mostly) True Story. Brilliant historical fiction.
