Currently reading? Just finished? 2021
I've finished The Villa and the Vortex: Selected Supernatural Stories, 1914-1934 just in time for my usual October creepy reading fest. Also finished The Trees, by Percival Everett, which I couldn't put down once started. Once again I have too many book choices so I have no idea what to read next.

Sounds like you have a theme going here -- people found buried in ice.

Police detective Ellery Hathaway confronts the serial killer she escaped from years before.
Plenty of suspense and surprises. 3.5 stars

Better off Dead by Lee Child and Andrew Child.

I read the Indridason and he did a great job with climate change there, for sure.

Sorry to hear about your husband. Hope he is doing well.
As for your reading, I'm always impressed that you get consistent quantity AND quality. That's hard to do.

Thanks, RJ -- very kind of you. He's so much better now, heading in the right direction, and I'm so grateful to the one doctor (of many) who actually found what was wrong. But really, I didn't mind the parking lot reading even in summer. Re consistency: I tend to choose books which I think I'll like rather than what's trendy at the moment -- I generally don't have much luck with those.

A well done mix of legal thriller and police procedural. My four star review:

I have a few of his books to look forward to.

The Chaos Kind by Barry Eisler
This combines characters from his two other most popular series. As this is the first thing I've read from this author, I can easily report that it works fine as a standalone. Spies on spies action.

Oh, it's on like Donkey Kong Christine! ;-) lol

You're very welcome, Christine!

Junior Bender #6, OK to read as a stand-alone. It's Christmas and Junior, having been forced to take a scary job from a scary guy, is hip deep in alligators. Tim has done it again. An absolutely wonderful mystery/adventure with a little humor thrown in. 5 stars, highest recommendation.

Four stars for this debut mystery. My review:

I will be watching to see what you think of The Heretic, Sandy. It landed in my inbox this morning. ❤📚

I'm still waiting on the spoiler thread to discuss it in the monthly reads forum

Fingers crossed, Sandy. I loved The Quaker so I'm hoping my expectations aren't too high.

Now, back to The Expanse series. I'll be starting

The Catch by Mick Herron
This is a novella featuring John Bachelor. While set in the same milieu as Herron's Slough House series, this story runs independently of it and can be read as a standalone.

by Nita Prose.
An atypical narrator poses some problems. See my full review:

Fun mystery with an art and history aspect to it. My four star review:

Stephanie Plum #12, OK to read as a stand-alone. Another entry in the Stephanie Plum series of mystery/humor, this one being among her best. 4 stars.

Not until I catch up to you and Christine lol"
I probably wouldn't have read so many books by now, but the spouse has been ill with some sort of mystery illness (finally demystified as of two weeks ago thank god) and had three different surgeries on one retina, so I spent countless hours reading in parking lots of different medical facilities since March.
