Shambler Zombie (#2) Reward: 10 Experience, 6 gold, 2 potion tokens, 1 marshmallow

- (Element Death) This zombie is slightly more challenging. It can stumble along and can be dangerous if you fall but it can be easily escaped from.
20 attack 75 HP - Requires machine gun

✯Hero Lvl 13 ✯HP: 34+2 ✯Sword Lvl 6 (+6)=12+B✯Staff Level 17(+6) =23+B ✯Exp 2491

Pet Plus Potion
Damage Potion
Enhanced Weapon Potion
Minor Poison Potion
Horse 2
Puppy 4
Cat 4
Rock 2
Shield 1
Level 18 Staff
Orb
Zest

Hero attacks Zombie #2 17 +2 + 2 horse + 4 Pup + 4 Cat + 2 Minor Poison Potion + 3 Orb + 3 Damage + 3 Enhanced + 1 Bauble + 1 Growth Weapon = 42 - 75 =33

Zombie #2 attacks 20 -2 Rock -1 Shield= 17 - 36 = 19 HP

zest = 2 x 10 = 20 + 3 Damage +3 Enhanced +2 MPP +2 horse + 4 Pup = 34 -33 = Shambler Zombie Dead

Unless damage and enhanced potions cannot be used. In that case:

Throws acorns 8-75 = 67
Hero attacks Zombie #2 17 +2 + 2 horse + 4 Pup + 4 Cat + 2 Minor Poison Potion + 3 Orb + 3 Damage + 3 Enhanced + 1 Bauble = 41 - 67 = 26

Zombie #2 attacks 20 -2 Rock -1 Shield= 17 - 36 = 19 HP

zest = 2 x 10 = 20 +2 MPP +2 horse + 4 Pup = 26 -26 = Shambler Zombie Dead

Zuzana | 2570 comments It looks o.k. to me. Except your second round attack. Enhanced Weapon potion is def out - so it would be - 2 (minor poison), + maybe - 3 (damage).

Reva I updated my original reply to you, check it out.

message 7053: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 937 comments It doesn't make sense for those of us to use the spells if we have over 20 attack between our weapons and weapon bonuses right? Wouldn't it just make more sense to just do a normal attack on the second round?

message 7054: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments From what I understand (which may not be much!) the advantage is that the zombcrosis won't affect you when you use the spell. If you don't need to use any health potions (and won't for the week) then I would assume it wouldn't matter if you use your regular weapons.

message 7055: by Zuzana (last edited Aug 03, 2016 01:10AM) (new)

Zuzana | 2570 comments Yup, Cathy is right. Depends whether you need to heal during combat and afterwards or not.

Look at the higher level zombies though. Their attack power is so high you won't be able to use a conventional weapon at all. You'll be restricted to spell use (because you'll need to heal every turn).

Zuzana's correct. Even with a gazillion acorns, you can only use the Red Gem once per month in order to make your first strike large. Then you're faced with dribbling attacks of under 30. It'll take a lot of rounds and heal potions to whittle down 500 HP and especially 1000 HP.

Since the Bauble and Growing Weapon Potion are tied to staff and sword you wouldn't get the accumulated benefits they'd offer with so many rounds.

It's just a numbers game -- having enough gold/potion tokens to take the monsters down. Lady Ysmay could help. Brute strength only -- no finesse required.

message 7057: by Reva (last edited Aug 03, 2016 09:26AM) (new)

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments Zuzana says. "What is your magic staff level? You used 17 twice and 18 once in your post.
Not sure about damage potion, see my question to Kelly bellow.
Zest's base value is 10, so with the modifier 2 it's 2x10= 20"

My staff at present is Level 17 but I only need 2 more books-- a Series Level #1 and a Series Level #2 to complete Level 18. --Which I'll likely have by the time I can attack the Scrambler and higher Zombies.

It seems like every time I get a #1 or #2 book, they're loaded with other features like a princess or mineral or Water on the cover etc so completing the level hasn't been a great priority. It's not like I had any big monsters to kill.

Even with the Zombies we have now, it won't make that much of a difference.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments Ok that makes more sense about the advantage of spells. I was thinking to myself, why am I using ALL these books just to LEARN the spells....and then I need to read a bunch more books just for a one time 20 attack. When I already have close to that with my sword+modifiers.

I guess i just need to decide how important these monsters are to me, or if I should save my books for attacking the Hydra and older monsters I haven't had a go at first.

Will magic be helpful with the Great White Dragon?? I assumed it was so that's why I started with the spell ingredients.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments Does anyone have recommendations for "metal in title or series". I have NOTHING in my books or can find nothing appealing. Ugh this one is killing me.

message 7060: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9625 comments Iron Druid chronicles?

I think I'm going to reread that series ;)

message 7061: by Reva (new)

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments When using the Zest spell, do we treat it like a minor poison potion, -- it's good for the entire battle against say, Zombie #3.

OR

Do we need a wisp and minor heal potion for every strike?

message 7062: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments Yeah, I think I'm mostly down to Iron Druid -- Hounded -- so hoping to get to reading the first of that which I have on my kindle so I can do the rest through audio -- why the libraries have them that way I don't know, but both my overdrive libraries are like that. lol.

The Iron King title and series have Iron which I have never finished I think I got to the third book.

Mercy Thompson has a couple with metals: Iron/Silver

The Iron Thorn -- I have read 1 & 2 of this series. SteampunkyLovecraftianYA

The Iron Trial -- I haven't read it, but a friend enjoyed it

I'm slowly re-reading Chronicles of Narnia which has Silver Chair. Silver Linings Playbook, Visions in Silver, Silver in the Blood...

Iron and Silver seem to be REALLY FREAKING POPULAR METALS FOR TITLES. lol.

Man in the Iron Mask if you want more classic at the time.

Richelle Mead as a few in her series if you've had them on your list. Might hit a few other categories for other quests.

Umm.... I know I have had a fair amount of gold too.

Sometimes I just start typing different metals in my tbr search or just general searches. I have found a few that way I couldn't think of of the top of my head that appealed at the time when we were doing the mineral ones. Or I do it on an Overdrive search too just to cut out the middle man unless I want to see what it's about or what people thought of it if I had any friends read it.

Sometimes I just bang my head on the computer keyboard until a book magically appears lol *not terribly helpful*

message 7063: by Reva (last edited Aug 03, 2016 12:54PM) (new)

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments I just go to my library and look up books under Gold, silver copper-- there's plenty available.

Overdrive is definitely the way to go. Books instantly available. No fuss, no muss, no overdue books. Just a pileup when holds suddenly ALL become available at once. LOL

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9625 comments Oh, yeah gold, forgot about that one. Fool's Gold series by Susan Mallery (it's also great for staff upgrades since it's looong :p)

Sorry, Reva, I'm not ignoring you. I just don't know the answer. You'll have to wait for Kelly to stop by for ale

message 7065: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments I agree. Iron, Gold and Silver seem to be the most popular. Thank so much for all the suggestions I will look into them!

OF COURSE I've read all my gold and silver ones haha. I did a random total GR search on some metals, but then I had a stress attack about how the heck to choose!

I thought I'd stop by here and find some recommendations that I can look into. There are just so many options.

Also, I totally agree with the head banging. Sometimes it just happens.

I find it easier to see what books are available first, then I look them up on goodreads. I tried the reverse only to find I couldn't get some books at all. lots of head banging then

With its curious mixture of adventure, natural history and satire this early Canadian novel has become a landmark work of fantasy and science fiction.

It reminds me of Jules Verne or Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Hits a lot of quests:

Set at sea

Copper
Someone is killed

Kelly actually answered that one before. Each cast = same reagents/ingredients get used up.

So they will take awhile to work up to. (Of course with her mentioning spell levels....maybe you can work up to casting without reagents. Like in Harry Potter when they could do wandless -- or silent -- or both? Or maybe that's a mix of books, but I know it's happened in the genre. lol. Working up to those things.

It's been awhile since I started that one (I think I have the final one in that series of 5 to read still actually), but I think it's reasonably safe to say that someone is killed.

Of course I am likely remembering a mashup of the 4 books of that series, but there are multiple deaths.

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments For metals, don't forget "steel". Asimov's The Caves of Steel is great sci-fi. Brass, tin, bronze, mercury, nickel... there are lots of metals in more classic books too: Man in the Iron Mask, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, etc. :)

sci-fi:

The Martian
All You Need Is Kill
Shift
Present Tense
Memory Prime
YA:
Eleanor & Park
crime/thriller:
Body Double

Zuzana | 2570 comments Kelly wrote: "Will read through everything tonight but just so you know. There will be levels of spells too. I didn't intend on zombies being able to be done all this month :P"

YAY for levels. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to learn spells if your weapon attack power (with modifiers) is above 20.

I'm also curious what gadgets you come up with to reduce the attack power of higher level zombies.

runner zombie - 100 AP
thriller zombie - 200 AP

So far I know only about : Shield potion (half down), blue gem (half down), Rock (-1, -2 with PPP), Shield (-1). Even if all combined it will reduce thriller zombie to 48 AP which is lethal to everybody.

Maybe a magical upgrade to the shield to boost its defence power?

message 7083: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Or maybe elemental magic shields :)

message 7084: by Reva (new)

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments If I develop the arrow with 10 books, it hits with 20. Does the Red gem double that to 40?

message 7085: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments So I'm trying to come up with the best plan of attack to get some of the hydra heads, once I have the gold to hire Lady Ysmay (2 weeks from wednesday).

It's so hard picking which hydras to go after in which order (done Lust and Pride already). AND which combo of potions works the best.

message 7086: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments I have found that battle strategizing is my absolute weak point in this RPG haha.

message 7087: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments Sorry for all the posts!!! Stupid question here (pretty sure I've already asked this).

When you have achieved enough points to level up, do you have to do it automatically? Or can you attack another monster and then level up? I just don't wanna leave 20 hp and then level up and get max hp without using my hp down.

message 7088: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana | 2570 comments Rebecca, I believe that leveling up is automatical. You hit certain amount of points, you level up.

message 7089: by Rebecca (last edited Aug 04, 2016 06:54PM) (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments Whoops accidentally deleted my question.

For potions, can we use a potion at the beginning of a battle than then stop using it later during the battle? Such as the minor poison or the enhanced weapon? (I'm trying to make this Wrath work!)

Like can we say, okay no more poison potion for this battle?

Also will minor poison count when you've bounced back from negative?

message 7090: by Zuzana (last edited Aug 04, 2016 10:04PM) (new)

Zuzana | 2570 comments Rebecca, I don't think potions work that way. Once you apply them there's no stopping them.

If you use weapon enhanced potion, damage potion and/or pet plus potion they apply from that moment on till the end of the week. Minor poisons and growing strength potions work till the end of the battle.

What you CAN do. Use them later in the battle so that you'll get less AP points from them in the battle if it makes sense.

Also try to alternate between your weapons I bet their attack powers are not the same.

What I also saw (but I didn't do it myself) some players tampered with their pets, used them for one attack and not for the other.

Hope that helped you a little.

message 7091: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments Wait. Minor poison potions work for more than -2 against a monster?
It's -2 every turn?
I'm legit asking because I've been using them wrong the entire time then. I thought they were for ONE sort of 'attack' against a monster that was then just done sort of like the cat's one time attack for -2. lol.

I find slinging acorns gives you flexibility with your numbers.

message 7093: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana | 2570 comments Morgan, once you poison a monster it loses health points every turn.

it seems you didn't check out any of Reva's battles she posts here in the tavern thread. she uses the minor poison potion quite often.

Zuzana | 2570 comments Yup, Reva's right. If you have a slingshot and enought acorns it helps a lot against Hydra - wrath, too.

message 7096: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments I've looked at her battles some but the way she formats is cluttered to my eyes so it's not easy for me personally to figure outs every aspect. More a personal/number dyslexia sort of issue.

I've basically planned out my own attacks as I went which was more fun (to me) than basing them on anyone else. Though I did use her strat in part for the I think cliffhanger (on phone can't check) where it was 100ap 100hp and I hit it with my stockpile of acorns. XD

I've used them (poison potions) quite often too. I would just have like 6 more at the moment than I do if I'd realized. lol. Not a huge deal for me since I'm not exactly hurting for anything at the moment.

I also go some weeks not checking the thread at all because only so many notifs show before the list stops. So I also could have just missed where it was noted. Maybe one we should note in the text of the potion? What I have copied from the mod posts just says does 2 points dmg. Just to save anyone newer from doing that.

message 7098: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3798 comments And thanks for tips about the potions. Turns out if I use the minor poison AFTER my first turn it works out perfectly. I'm usually good with numbers but this strategizing is difficult. I'm trying to get 5 hydras done in one go haha.

Yes the minor poison potion is a steal (don't tell Kelly and Tea that so they raise the price). I use it for all my big monsters.

So I have it all worked out that I can get my last 5 hydras and I only need to buy 21 potions! With 13 potion tokens I have some work to do haha.
