I think it's a good idea to put books in the bonus tasks if possible. Having more than one won't hurt us, and we'll still get the 10 points.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Since Beth's starting her Africa book, I'll start my alien world/space one today. I have several options so if the narrator is bad I can switch.

In Taking the Fifth by J.A. Jance the narrator was so bad I would have quit and deleted it! At least it was fairly short. I don't think I would have cared much for it in book form either. I love her other two series, but this is not going on the yearly series challenge!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I'm using my lunch break to finish my knitting book for Crafts. On my way home I'll start The Wolves of Midwinter by Anne Rice for Clubbing. Beth also has this book on her TBR list. This will finish off the Hobby category for a 30 point bonus. If someone finishes Clubbing first, so much the better!

message 204: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments That sounds great Theresa! I've started listening to The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms for my alien world/space book. I hope to get halfway through it before work ends. Then I should be able to start reading Perla tonight.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet Update

I've updated the spreadsheet, but there is one thing to note. I can only do one hyperlink per cell, so when participants like Rebecca read more than one book for a task, the first book will have a hyperlink, and the other(s) will just be listed in the same cell. I could re-design the spreadsheet for this, but I don't think anyone will mind to much just having it the way it is.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments J'mom, if I have my figures right, we should have two categories sewn up in the next 48 hours - Where is your date from? and What are your date's hobbies.

Now we just need to finish the eyes, torso, and legs for What does he look like?

message 207: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments One hyperlink is fine. I don't think you need to go messing with the spreadsheet - it's wonderful as is!

message 208: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Melissa - Can you read City of Ashes next? That would get our torso done.

Kirila - How's The Edge of Reason going?

I messaged Carolyn to let us know how she's doing.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I'm enjoying The Wolves of Midwinter, my Clubbing book from Beth's TBR shelf. Right now I'm over 1/3 done with the 16 hour audiobook, so I should finish tomorrow or early on Thursday.

If there are still bonus slots to fill tomorrow evening, I'll make sure my next book fills one of them.

message 210: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I am half way through The Edge of Reason for eyes. I haven't had as much reading time as I wished, but I am getting there.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I found a couple of torsos and downloaded the audiobooks from my library in case we still need that.
Lost Highlander by Cassidy Cayman
Lost Highlander
Worth the Fall (The McKinney Brothers, #1) by Claudia Connor
Worth the Fall

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments And maybe someone can choose a book with legs on the cover from this list:

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Or eyes:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Not all qualify, but many do.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Finally, there are many torsos here:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

Can you tell I'm trying to get all our bonus points?

message 215: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I can read Tall, Dark and Deadly (FBI #1) by Lorie O'Clare for torso and Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1) by Victoria Dahl for legs. I think they will both work.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Rebecca, that would be great! You seem to have so much time to read, and I envy that. With all you've read for this Toppler, I think you win MVP for the team.

message 217: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I am already reading for eyes and I will definitely finish it. So don't worry about that category :)

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Great, Kirila. I should have paid more attention when I checked our status this morning. My 7 day work weeks are taking their toll!

message 219: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I'm almost done with Tall, Dark and Deadly (FBI #1) by Lorie O'Clare , and will start Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1) by Victoria Dahl after that. I think that will cover the bonus points.

message 220: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Kirila wrote: "I am half way through The Edge of Reason for eyes. I haven't had as much reading time as I wished, but I am getting there."

Life does get in the way sometimes. Doesn't it realize that reading is our priority during a Toppler?! LOL

message 221: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Yay Rebecca for filling in some needed spots! Legs is a priority since we haven't heard from Carolyn. I hope everything's ok with her. I don't think she's posted on YLTO in about two weeks.

When Melissa reads City of Ashes we'll have a backup torso, so that's good.

Since Beth's reading an Africa book I can switch and fill another task if needed. I'll look at the spreadsheet tomorrow.

message 222: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I got called in to work for a few hours. Aaargh! I plan to finish The King of Plagues tonight. Not sure I'll have time to read a 3rd book because I have to work full days Thu and Fri.

Everyone's doing a great job! We rock!

message 223: by Theresa~OctoberLace (last edited Feb 11, 2015 05:54PM) (new)

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet Update

We've now read 29 books, earned 25 bonus points, and our total is 315.

I'll have The Wolves of Midwinter finished either tonight or in the morning to finish up Hobbies.

message 224: by Thing Two (last edited Feb 12, 2015 05:59AM) (new)

Thing Two (thingtwo) Hey y'all - I finished Lucky Us today, but when I went to look for Snow Crash I couldn't find it. Switching to Morality for Beautiful Girls. Not sure if I can finish it in time, though.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet Update

32 books, 25 points bonus, 345 points total.

message 226: by Theresa~OctoberLace (last edited Feb 12, 2015 04:43AM) (new)

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet Update

I did finish The Wolves of Midwinter by Anne Rice about 1:15 am. That completed the Hobby category, and now we have 33 books read, 55 bonus points, and 385 points total.

My next book will be A Small Indiscretion. Odd that this is supposed to be a TBR Toppler, but all the books I've read had been on my library hold list and delivered just before or during the Toppler. It's more like a "Keep up with your Library" Toppler!

message 227: by Kirila (last edited Feb 12, 2015 10:04AM) (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Niiiice. Two bonus categories covered!
I am reading Mostly Harmless next. Hopefully it will fit in the alien world category, as we don't have it covered yet.

Thing Two (thingtwo) Thing Two wrote: "Hey y'all - I finished Lucky Us today, but when I went to look for Snow Crash I couldn't find it. Switching to Morality for Beautiful Girls. Not sure if I can finish it ..."

Not sure if we're trying to cover all bonus areas, but since Lucky Us is the second in historical fiction, it can be moved to John and Lorena Bobbit or Brokeback Mountain, too.

I will finish Parthian Shot barring any unforeseen circumstances!

Thing Two (thingtwo) Thing Two wrote: "Thing Two wrote: "Hey y'all - I finished Lucky Us today, but when I went to look for Snow Crash I couldn't find it. Switching to Morality for Beautiful Girls. Not sure i..."

What's the minimum? I've got a South American book The Substance of Fire and Other Plays here at the house that's 175 pages. I can pick that one up after Parthian Shot.

Morality is an audio book - set in Africa - but it's eight hours, and I'm not sure I'll have eight listening hours between now and noon on Saturday.

It looks like Jmom is reading the alien book, so my Snow Crash dud is not an issue. Yay!

message 230: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments 3. Each book must be at least 175 pages.
So it should work :)

message 231: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'm almost finished with my alien world/space book. About an hour left.

T2 - Beth is reading a book for Africa, so we should be ok if you don't finish yours.

I'm reading a book for South America, but it's longer than I thought. I'm pretty sure I can finish it, but if you want to read your SA book too, we'll be backups for each other.

message 233: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments We are AWESOME!! At work so no graphics.

message 234: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Done with my Africa book: Americanah! It was great. Will keep plugging away at others for points.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet Update

We're up to 395 points, including the bonuses, so we should go over 400 tonight.

message 236: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I'm currently reading Storm of Shadows. I think it would be under fantasy.

message 237: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I finished my alien world/space book, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, and really enjoyed it.

With J'mom's and Rebecca's finishes, we're at 415 points.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Off to bed to read Perla, my South America book.

message 240: by Debra (last edited Feb 13, 2015 12:15AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Reported the following:

I finished The King of Plagues. Since we already have someone who finished the bonus points for shooting, you could put this in for a horror book (Bella and Edward).

I ALSO finished Vox for a sexy book for me and Johnny Depp. STEAMY!

That's all I can finish, unless someone can come up with a short book I could get from my library that fits a category we need. I read Vox in one evening.

message 241: by Debra (last edited Feb 13, 2015 02:45AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Ok, I'm going to try going for Mickey and Minnie Mouse (main character is a dog) by reading A Fistful of Collars. I love the Chet and Bernie series and they are usually fast reads. Up with insomnia right now, so am making some progress on it.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet Update

It's Friday the 13th. We have 39 books read and have earned 445 points. It looks like we have several books still being read, and will hopefully have a South American finish to capture the final bonus points. Rebecca is our most prolific reader, with 16 books read so far. Happy reading!

message 243: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments 16 books! That has GOT to be a record, Rebecca!

message 244: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (wanda71) I just finished Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley. It will complete the couple's task-Adam and Eve- Fairy tale or retelling- This is a retelling of the tale Beauty and the Beast!

message 245: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (wanda71) I am ready to begin a new book. I could read Maya's Notebook for South America if it is needed. Please let me know.

message 246: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'm reading Perla for South America and expect to finish tonight. It might be late, but it's so good I'll stay up all night if necessary :)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments 16 books!!! wow!!!

message 249: by Rebecca (last edited Feb 13, 2015 01:27PM) (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I'm about to go into work, but I will try to read Royal Holiday Bride for the royal character category before the toppler ends tomorrow. I was lucky enough to have three days off this week, so I had plenty of time to read.

message 250: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Wow, Rebecca, I don't know how you do it. Even if I had a whole week off and absolutely nothing else to do, but read, I would still not manage to probably even read half of what you did...

And as Pragya said, I am glad you are on my team :)
