Kirila | 660 comments I would prefer if you put me in only one of the bonus tasks, because I am not 100% sure I can read two books. Especially if they are a bit longer. Then if I manage to read a second one, it will still count. It seems like we have enough people to cover the tasks anyways.

message 102: by Freya (new)

Freya | 9 comments I'm in for three.

Catch-22 for whichever is needed from:
- set on an island
- takes place during a war, or
- a classic

The Colour of Magic for:
-part of a series

The King's Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy for:
- non-fiction
- book that features a royal character, or
- biography, autobiography or memoir

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Hooray Carolyn! I've got The Rose of Sebastopol on my tbr so I look forward to what you think of it.

Well, now that we've got the bonus tasks covered any other books are for the task of your choice. It doesn't matter if someone is already reading that task, go for what you want.

message 104: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Great to hear we have the bonus tasks covered. Can't wait to see the updated spreadsheet. Not rushing you, Theresa, just excited!

message 105: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Me too! I want to be sure I got everything straight :)

message 106: by Rebecca (last edited Jan 27, 2015 12:26PM) (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) Can we read more than one book for a task, or do we have to pick different tasks? For example, can I read two murder mysteries, and have them count, or do I have to put one of them under a different task?

message 107: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Rebecca, you can read whatever you want. You can repeat tasks, that's fine. Jmom has made this toppler really flexible in that regard :)

Carolyn, is your book a memoir, or is that the title? By any chance are you looking for The Paris Wife? I enjoyed that book, and the cover is as you described.
The Paris Wife by Paula McLain

No problem, Kirila. You're currently on the worksheet for eyes and torso, but both tasks are listed for other readers, too. I can leave those there for now, and you can let me know what you'd like to change.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Updated spreadsheet 01/27/15

I've updated the spreadsheet, so just let me know as you want to make changes. I've got 5 plugged in for myself: Norwegian Wood (eyes), The Good Girl (new to me author), The Night Circus (magical realism), The Wolves of Midwinter (werewolves), and the next volume in The Chronicles of Narnia.

I read The Night Circus when it first came out and have been wanting to do a re-read. I'm reading The Chronicles of Narnia for my yearly challenge, so I'm not sure which one I'll be on for the Toppler.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Hammer's Fall (The Breakers' Bad Boys, #1) by Laurie Roma Hammer's Fall

"Hammer is an ex-Ranger and ex-professional fighter." You get a torso and a career if you read this one. I have no idea what it's about, but a co-worker subscribes to BookBub.com for the hot book covers!

Thanks Theresa! I would like to do the eyes, because it's shorter and that will give me a chance for a second book.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Wednesday morning update

This should take care of adding Rebecca's crafts, Carolyn's legs, and removing Kirila's torso. I'll check in again after work today.

message 117: by Rebecca (last edited Jan 28, 2015 07:20AM) (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I will read at least 7, since I can repeat tasks. I just have to figure out which ones.

Great job, Theresa!

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Everyone on our team is rocking it!

message 121: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Theresa - Our spreadsheet is awesome, I really appreciate the job you're doing!

Rebecca, I just wanted to get an idea of how many books we might be reading.

It looks like we're in good shape!

message 122: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) Can someone else take the crafting one? None of my books will fit after all, because they feature crafting as a business, not a hobby.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Rebecca wrote: "Can someone else take the crafting one? None of my books will fit after all, because they feature crafting as a business, not a hobby."

Rebecca had also signed up for a crafting book, so you don't need to worry about that.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I think you mean Carolyn :) Did your brain just fart?

message 125: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Well that's one way of putting it! ROFL!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Oh, no! My brain is screaming enough, I think! Yes, I did mean to tell Rebecca that Carolyn has crafting covered.

It serves me right for checking in here when I was listening to the final half hour of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany. It's a good read, but 57 hours 13 minutes of Hitler is a bit much. I started on January 1st but just had to fit in some lighter reads in between. I'm finished now and loading my iPod with books for the next two weeks.

message 127: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments I just found my team and will have to wait until tonight to strategize. I am probably good for a couple of books if I can do them on audio. I will look at everything tonight.

Kirila | 660 comments Welcome to the team, Beth!

message 129: by jaxnsmom (new)

message 131: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Now we just need to hear from Wanda.

message 132: by Beth (last edited Jan 29, 2015 07:55PM) (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm going to read Americanah--Set in Africa, think it also works for the Bobbitts) and could work for clubbing as it is on Jaxnsmom's TBR list... he he
I can also readPrince Lestat which would give me Buffy and Angel or Comic books in the hobbies

Not sure I will get through more than 2, since work is hellish right now.

message 133: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Shout out for Wanda! Come join us!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet update 1/30/15

Beth, I'm glad you chimed in! I've added your books to the spreadsheet. I do hope that Wanda will join us soon. Do you think she may not realized that we're Team B?

message 135: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I went to the teams thread and put the team names with their members listed a while back.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Looking back through the messages here, I do see that Wanda reported in on the 23rd. I just sent her a message letting her know the team is waiting for her book reveal.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet update 01/31/15

Wanda answered my message today. She'll be starting with 2 books, Oolong Dead and When Girlfriends Step Up. I've added those to our spreadsheet.

One week from now we'll be reading for our Toppler. Is everyone ready?

message 138: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Can't wait! I still need to go pick up the book from the library and also prepare a few other options once I am done.

message 139: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I picked up my toppler books from the library today!

message 140: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Kirila wrote: "I picked up my toppler books from the library today!"

Yay! I've got mine too! Raring and ready to go!

message 141: by Freya (new)

Freya | 9 comments I'm getting pretty excited about the Toppler now - it's almost upon us! Plus, I'm going on holiday for the first 4 days, so I should have plenty of beach time to fill with books not to mention excruciatingly long (I hate flying) flights to distract myself!

message 142: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Theresa - there's something weird going on with the spreadsheet. I get a message that it's going to disappear soon, blah, blah, blah. Anyone else having this problem?

message 143: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments jaxnsmom wrote: "Theresa - there's something weird going on with the spreadsheet. I get a message that it's going to disappear soon, blah, blah, blah. Anyone else having this problem?"

I don't get any message when viewing it. Did you click on the last link Theresa posted? Because one of the first ones isn't valid ( I guess it was a test)

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Spreadsheet Update February 3rd

J'mom, thanks for the heads-up on the spreadsheet message. I've never used Google Docs before, so I really need to learn more about how this works. It seems that if I don't refresh the link periodically, it can disappear? I've uploaded the most recent one here, so we should be good.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments J'mom, I've just reserved message #4 in the reporting thread for the team spreadsheet. I think it might be best if I use that message for the spreadsheet and updates, then link back to that message in any update notices here. Do you agree? If so, I'll fix it up after work tonight.

message 146: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Thanks Theresa. No more message. I'd never seen that before, and was afraid someone/thing was trying to take over my computer again.

Using the reporting thread sounds good.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments To make it easy on everyone, I'll be posting our spreadsheet updates to Reporting Thread Message #4. Any time we have updates, I'll post a link to that message here.

Does everyone have their first book selected? I'll probably work on Saturday, but really hope I get Sunday off this week!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments So quiet here! Is everyone gearing up for the Toppler start tomorrow? Unfortunately, I'm definitely working all day Saturday and really hoping to be off on Sunday. I'll be working all week, so daily spreadsheet updates will be around 8pm here in Texas.

message 149: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments You're right, it IS quiet. Everyone getting their rest for the wild week ahead. I'll, as usual, be with my sister tomorrow so we can eat and partake in some libations together. You know, I don't think we've ever been on the same team. Do you think I should spike one of her drinks? She's committed to reading 7 books for her team!

I think I MIGHT be able to squeeze in a 3rd book. Would like to do the couples one in honor and Johnny Depp and me. That's too funny, and a long story.

message 150: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Hey team! I am definitely not resting this week, that's why I haven't been around. But that gives me a great excuse to rest next week, at home with a book. For me the toppler starts at 6 or 7pm on Sat. I have dinner planned for that evening so I will only start on Sunday. Also my boyfriend is visiting for the weekend, but he has been exposed to a toppler or two before - he should be prepared. Besides we are snowboarding on Saturday, which means we wouldn't want to move a muscle on Sunday. Lying on the couch, reading a book sounds perfect :). During the week I am working during the day, but the evenings I can devote to reading. Will try to refrain from watching series that week. And for the big finish - I am on call on the 14th. Nothing usually happens, but I have to be home. Perfect excuse to stay home and read!
