MountainKat | 31593 comments Here is Task 27:

109. Read 6 books with or without facial hair on a male cover model. Teams decide.

As a team decide whether you are doing books with facial hair on the cover or without. Obvious scruff or 5 o'clock shadow would count as facial hair. You can use any edition's cover to qualify for this task. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion posts.

Lisa (mooselover) | 2724 comments Can we go facial hair as any hint of a 5 o clock shadow will count as hair, so I think hair would be easier.

My aunt lives in Henderson and wrote to us last night that she had to go to bed because she was feeling way too "stabby". lol

And up here in Oregon we just legalized shrooms for god's sake. I may have voted for that. Never tried it before!!

Enjoyed this book way more than I was expecting. For some weird reason, I love books about hockey even though I know nothing about it and this was no exception. Zach was the cutest, most clueless MC I've read about in a while. He was so stinking analytical that it just came across so funny. Foster is your typical star athlete with a heart of gold but a reputation of man-whore. He also happens to be Zach's twin's bestie. These two had chemistry from the start so it was a fun ride. Loved!

Winter’s Promise (Captured Heart #1) by Giovanna Reaves
Winter’s Promise
Pages: 186
Qualifies: facial hair on cover model
Read: 5 Nov
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
Following much of the standard mpreg romance this book had a slightly different style - less pathos (still some though), better communication, and some mystery that takes a bit of time. The MCs were well sketched and characterised. I would definitely listen to another book by this author. An easy listen.

Narrated by John Solo - excellent.

This was only just over 150 pages long but it was heavy on sex and quite light on the story.
Not a lot really happened. I still don't know why Jeffery remained in Washington so long.
Kinda of forgettable after you read it.

In a hell of a lot of pain. Poor thing. I'll go ask him if he needs anything and he'll be like "Yeah, could you fill this water bottle for me?". So I go fill it. Then when I get back he'll ask "Could you get me some crackers?".....and all I can think is "Can't you ask me all the things at once or are you trying to help me get my steps in. lol

Really enjoying this author's writing. This was an earlier book from her and I found it a bit long and repetitive but still liked it a whole lot. The way Taryn and Elliot's romance started was unique and their phone calls were a sweet way to get to know each other. They had some serious obstacles in their way that had me rush reading to find out how it would all work out. Very nice!

Review:
This is a pretty straightforward amnesia story without a lot happening. And this, I am sure, is because the book has been broken into 3 parts ala the Spencer Cohen series. Unlike the SC series though, there is a lot less 'action'. There is a lot of emotion around that amnesia issue, but that is sort of expected?

I felt there is a lot to unfold though in the next two books - there are a couple of unaddressed plot threads which indicate the line of where we go to from here. So I am in for those, assuming they come out in audio :)

Solid narration by Glen Lloyd - 4 stars.

Review: So I picked this one because it fit THREE of my open challenges and kinda forgot to re-read the precis...so, yeah, I wasn't feeling the Permit Patty vibes of Misty. BUT, I loved the characters; so many POC (who I am going to assume show up in the sequels because I'm pressed for time and can't look it up right now) and I think Nesto might only be the second MC from the DR I've come across in my MM reads.

Loved the supporting cast (except PP, she can eat a bag of dicks) and all of the OTHER strong female characters (esp. Carmen). I'm not usually a fan of Chef romances, but this one didn't bombard me with recipes; it actually made me hungry...which is a first, I think.

It's not an easy read; I wanted to say that it felt like the author went a little overboard with all the blatant "-isms," but that's on me. This is life for too many people. MY privilege made me feel uncomfortable and I loved that I had to face that.

And as much as I love LOVE Sean Crisden, I'm not sure he was the right choice for this audio. I can't speak to his accents (I'd need someone familiar with Carribean voices to check) but I can't help think there was an OV out there who could have done it better.

Still gonna listen to the sequels tho.

1 other team received task 27 yesterday, so I guess they wont get task 28 until Saturday, where we should get it Friday night.
There are only 3 players in that team , so it will be interesting to see what the final task will be. Not sure if a read off would be fair as they are 1 player down.
I have no plans for this weekend so can read.

With the challenge ending on Sunday, November 8th, there will a minor change to the last task. Beginning on Friday, November 6th, when teams post their completions and get a new task, they will all get the same task. For this task, instead of just completing it, you will continue reading to add to the total number of pages read for your team. There will be no passes for the last task and to complete it, every team member must complete a book for the task and contribute to the overall page count. In the event that two or more teams are tied based on the number of tasks completed, the team with the highest page count will win The Amazing Race Team Challenge!

**Remember if your completion posts are incomplete or have the wrong page count, your books will not count. So help each other out by checking the posts!**

ā€¼ļø If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. I am looking for one of those three things when confirming your books! As long the page count you list is correct, I will accept any link to the book. ā€¼ļø

Lisa (mooselover) | 2724 comments Page count is only for the last task.

Jane (PS) wrote: "Does this mean every team, regardless of what task they are up to, can win?"

No, first is the tasks completed, page count is only a tiebreaker for placement. This is not just for the overall win, but for places down the line too. 😊

message 799: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31593 comments Here is your LAST TASK!

Read a book written by an authors whose initials are both in the first half of the alphabet (A-M) or both in the second half of the alphabet (N-Z). No pass for this task.

Books selected for this task have to be written by authors whose initials are wholly contained in either first half or the second half of the alphabet. If the author uses a middle name or initial, it must also fall into the same half of the alphabet as initials of the first and last names. Examples of qualifying authors would be Lorelei James, Amy Lane and Nora Roberts. Authors that would not qualify would include J.D. Robb, Sawyer Bennett and Sloane Kennedy. Also Jennifer L. Armentrout would work, but Susan Elizabeth Phillips would not. Each teammate must complete a book that qualifies for the team to complete the task. Additional books will add to the team's page count total in case a tiebreaker is needed. Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count.
