Nice. Santa has good taste. :)

I assume you're talking about those Paul Levitz books from Taschen. I've got all three volumes and love looking at those. Learned a lot of comics history from it, but seems like most fans today aren't interested in what came before.
Well I am encouraged that you like them, I’ll give it a hard look then! I’m just a completist and have to set rules so I just made a financial decision when I started to collect no DC - with Kirby as my only exception.

I wasn't dissing you, just the wistful old man in me coming out. Sorry if it was rude.
Pretty sure there's some Kirby and Simon covers and pages in there, too. Newsboy Legion, Sandman, Boy Commandos...all early Kirby stuff.
No worries, didn’t think it was rude at all. It’s a little weird because I’m not Marvel fanboy-y or anti-DC. I’m actual most an X-men fan so that’s how I picked to collect Marvel over DC for the most part. I just never read DC comics as a kid so if I started now it’d be a huge investment in backstory.

I got no comics for Xmas :(So today I ordered:
BPRD HELL ON EARTH Book 1
Descender Deluxe 1
Outcast book 2
Black science premier 2
It’s funny if you study the one big difference in political stance between the two, Marvel are pro war and DC have mostly always been anti war.
That said I always think Marvel are always the more multi cultural and forward thinking. DC need a massive makeover. If they could utilise their bigger characters with better stories like superman that would be a great start. I love superman but his stories are utter shite bar a few. How many origin stories do you need?!
A quick question for you pros out there. I can grab the Marvel Civil War Box Set for halfprice. Would it work as an entry point to Marvels Universe? So far I only stepped into Punisher due to Ennis‘ run. So, worth it?
Strange place to start, but any place is a good place to start. Make sure you target Brian bendis daredevil run.
I have never bought a Marvel boxer but I have heard mixed things about the construction of the box itself.”In my opinion, it may be worth considering if the same money could buy some other classics like Claremont’s Uncanny X-Men, Daredevil by Brubaker, Thor by Simonson, Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Or another direction would be find modern runs like Hickman’s Avengers, Young Avengers, Hawkeye by Fraction, Loki by Gillen, Ms. Marvel, Daredevil by Waid/Samnee. Some of those are pretty cheap on eBay or Amazon and then obviously InStockTrades is generally the best packing and prices.
Also had the Akira boxset arrive...no idea where to store it! I also got the platinum edition of Marvels...i knew it was large, but geez!

So I started this year with around 14 comicbooks (2 omnibuses, a few OHCs and the rest TPBs). Around March I decided I was going to start reading again and with the guidance of this forum and all the great reviews you've left, I started building my collection. I've a smallish bookcase in our bedroom (pic 1) and major book spillage everywhere, including under the bed which I couldn't take pics of; I tried to keep a concise collection and originally started with Marvel cosmic, which led me to collect Thanos and Adam Warlock storylines, then headed to Daredevil, Hulk, X-Men, etc. Not too much in the way of DC but mainly sticking with Batman. I got into some storylines purely because of this forum that I would have entirely missed (eg Locke & Key, Fear Agent, East of West, etc). I tried to arrange the shelves by publisher (first OHCs then Omnibuses of the respective publisher), then the same for the next publisher and so on. I've no idea where to put the Akira boxset or the Infinity Boxset when it comes next year (or all those books I've stacked at my work desk!). If I had any advice for those starting collecting... before buying a series, read the reviews of the members of this forum, ask for opinions, and read samples online. Also read the solicits and plan your budget accordingly. I didn't even know there were solicits until I joined this forum!
Biggest mistake of the year for me was buying the entire Walking Dead Omnibuses which sadly didn't live up to the show (for me).
Anyway, hope you all have a great year ahead and hope for a lot of great reading (and collecting) for all of us! Thanks to all those who contribute to this forum! And thanks to Blindzider and Relstuart for starting this all!
The pic of the bookcase hides the books on the side as the moulding overlaps the shelves themselves:

Great collection after one year, Paul. I for one am heading to Ikea to grab me some Billy shelves to accomodate for my 2018 purchases.

Very nice Paul! I agree with your advice as well: choose carefully. Even with the best reviews everything is still subject to taste. But without this group I would have never tried some things like Locke and Key.

Nice paul. I spent nearly a grand on some oak shelves and now I’ve ran out or room so I’ve sold stuff I don’t like , but still gonna need more room.

Thanks guys! What I'd like to do (and what I plan to do) is only keep my favorite stuff, so that nearly all of it fits on my shelf. I'm in the process of selling quite a bit and will likely sell some of what's in the pictures unless it's a 4 or 5 star read to me. I've read about half of what I have so I still need to finalize my thoughts on the rest.

Nice collection! I know a lot of people suggest the Billy shelves, but I swear by the Kallax shelf unit from Ikea. Both are worth looking into.

Hi everyone,My additions to close the year:

A very excellent 2018 for you all!
Nice additions Bruno! Also on a separate note, not sure if this was mentioned but if you had your Akira boxset arrive with damage, you can get a free replacement box from the manufacturer:

So here‘s my December haul in its full glory. A lot of unknowns, but I guess Iwill still like them.
Have a good start into 2018 and read you then.

Thanks Paul... now focusing on Hellboy and BPRD in Hell :)
Hey guys, I finally got around to taking pics of the books that Chris Claremont signed when he was at my LCS.Here's a Bleeding Cool article about my LCS and the signing event: https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/12/...
and here's a link to all the photos:

I didn't get a COF, but I figured the pics were enough. Besides, I'm never selling these haha
Claremont was rad by the way; super candid and laid back.

That is exactly my dream to get him to sign my X-Men omnis. Congrats they look fantastic.
I got Stan Lee to sign my amazing Spiderman omnibus and wish I could get John Romita to sign one.

I ordered the Plague of Frogs vol 1 HC. I've heard good things so I'll check it out. :) I also order the new Tom King hardcover Vision book. Still not sure if it is oversized.
Awesome autographs from Claremont. :)

Very cool about Claremont. I may also get the Vision OHC. I don’t like much Marvel but I really enjoyed King’s short run.
Black Science is one of my favorite books, Remender is my favorite writer, and Scalera is amazing so decided to not buy any books this month and instead get an original page... 99% of what I wanted was out of my range but very happy with this... issue 18 page 21...https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...
That’s really cool. I’m a huge Remender fan as well, just not Black Science. I wouldn’t mind getting some Tony Moore/Jerome Opeña artwork from Fear Agent though : )

That would be rad, and even though both books have great colors it’s so cool to see the original lines.By the way, they happen to show the art process for issue 18 in the back of Black Science DLX #2 so you can see how Scalera walks that page from inception.
FYI if anyone ever wants to get original artwork, I ordered my Scalera page from EssentialSequential and heir shopping was the equivalent of IST’s. It came in a bubble wrapped package with fragile stickers and the page was in a plastic slip lightly tapped to a 1/2 piece of hard cardboard on the back side of the slip and a padded buffer board on the front side of the slip.

Donovan wrote: "Oh and I got Punk Rock Jesus DLX on eBay for $13. Hope it’s worth it. I’m a big Sean Murphy fan."I liked the story very much. The hero might be a bit clichéd with all the mental scars, but I liked it. The art was superb as always by Murphy.

It’s been so dry with omnibus and HC DLX for almost two months now. What have y’all been doing/getting? I filled in some holes in my Valiant HC, picked up all the goon library super cheap and have been reading a ton and posting reviews.

Nice! Good Choices!
Last 3 months I got:—Fourth World Omni (which is vey silver age but beautiful and so much world building. They did an awesome job of weaving all 4 of Kirby’s DC titles into one huge story - you would miss so much of the narrative if you read Mister Miracle, New Gods, Jimmy Olson/Superman, and Forever People as separate stories. And as proof that I’m enjoying enough to not just flip through, I found an error: page 943 accidentally reprints page 864)
—BPRD HOE HC 1 (read in one afternoon - so good)
—Abe Sapien (waiting to read until after BPRD HOE HC 2 which I -think- makes more sense)
—Black Science DLX 2
—Paper Girls DLX 1
—X-Men Classic Omnibus (which I’m saving for after Uncanny 4 comes out)
—Captain America (Waid/Garney) Omni (got through 50 pages and stopped - art and story are not for me I fear - first Omni I’m considering selling off without reading)
+artist editions of Mister Miracle and Kamandi V1

Sorry! I meant Miracle Man (NOT Mister Miracle). I corrected my post above.
As for Miracle Man - it collects Issues 2-9 (I think complete - maybe nearly complete) + other stuff.
Re: Artist Editions - After buying the FF World's Greatest Artist Edition I realized that despite spending $120, I definitely spend more time looking at it than the last 2 omnibus I bought that add up to 120, plus in the future I am only going to open those completely omnibuses less and less whereas I can't imagine not opening that artist edition on a regular basis for as long as I am interested in comic art. Not that anything about this hobby is "cost effective", but thats my rationalization for getting more AE and im sticking to it!
