Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Celia - let me know if that fixed it for you.

message 102: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) Yay, thank you! :)

Kelly (louloo) | 140 comments I don’t seem to be able to add to the spreadsheet? I’m using a phone so that may be the problem.
I’d like to put a book by a G - Wedding at the Beach Hut by Veronica Henry. Character Gwen.

message 104: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Done.

message 105: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Kelly, I think phones have limited access unless you download the Google Sheets app.

message 106: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (louloo) | 140 comments Still not working the app :(

message 107: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments If you keep having issues with it, just list the books here, with whatever tasks or tags or letters it works with, and Angie or I will put it on the sheet. No problem!

message 108: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (louloo) | 140 comments That’s great. Thanks!

message 109: by [deleted user] (new)

If I remember to check in on the thread I can help add books to the spreadsheet tomorrow

message 110: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 152 comments I have a question, for the hard letters that are listed do we only apply those if it’s in our word that we need to spell out or can we use them in general if we come across them in our books?

message 111: by Jenny (last edited Jun 07, 2020 08:36PM) (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Hard letters are for bragging rights, and confer no points, as it is completely random by the throw of the wheel. But, it is kind of fun to find the most of them.

IQOUXYZ

We only have I to search for this round.

message 112: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments I don't think we said this anywhere, but if you have trouble adding to the spreadsheet or don't like to work on spreadsheets, you can let us know what to add for your selections in this thread and we will update it for you. If you do that, please make a completion post here when you finish your books with all the info that can be used for your book. Thanks!

message 113: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Just to clarify, I went to add a book to the letter B but then it doesn't have one of the tags 1-5 but it does fit task 170. Is it okay just to have it fit a task or does it need to have a tag.

message 114: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments It only has to fit the letter. Everything else is an extra added bonus.
Well, up to ten genre tags for the round.

message 115: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Thanks! I finally got Just Mercy in and I'm excited to read it but I'll wait til wheel starts so I can use it here. :)

message 116: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Hard to wait when you get a new book! I applaud you.

We should probably go ask some other teams for some good recommendations to cover a couple of the tasks. If anyone feels like doing that, share please!

I am going to ask for Sci-fi titles that I haven't read. Wish me luck!

message 117: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 210 comments When filling in further books after our one for the first word, should we stick to one book per set of "Backpacking" or whats the best way to go about that? I have a lot of books I know I'll get through, but want to make sure I'm adding them in correctly.

I added my first one and a second in the next section, but wasn't sure the best course from there. Once I know, I'll finish filling in what I can tomorrow based on what books I have checked out and planned. Thanks!

message 118: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Fill them out wherever you want. We can move stuff around later if we need to. The goal is to fill out as many BACKPACKINGs as we can. We are only credited with one partial word at the end of the round.
So, don't worry about taking a whole word with your books. We will fill out a bunch in the end.

message 119: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 151 comments Okay so i get that we need a book that covers a letter but im confused about the task. Does it always need to fit a task too? I want to start planning but am a little confused.

message 120: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments My understanding- No, that’s separate. Kinda like a challenge within a challenge. If you can read one that fits a letter and a prompt then that’s great.

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 151 comments Kate wrote: "My understanding- No, that’s separate. Kinda like a challenge within a challenge. If you can read one that fits a letter and a prompt then that’s great."

Okay that was really confusing me. lol.
Is author by first or last name or both for the letter?

message 122: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jun 07, 2020 07:55PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3110 comments Kate is correct.

The only thing that a book has to fit is a letter in the spell-out. If it fits a task too, then that is 5 bonus points. If it fits a tag too, then that is an additional 5 bonus points - but this bonus is limited to 10 tags per round. - If we can find a task that every book works for that is great because it means more points.

Author can be either first or last name.

Character can be first or last name or nickname.

Jenny! my sweet! Have you read Jade City? It's not sci-fi, it's more Triad Godfathers with fantasy underlay (magic jade = superpowers) but it's so good!

The other sci-fi I've read this year hasn't been stuff that I've wanted to big up.. I am looking forward to reading more of The Expanse series plus A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy (which is #2, but I totally rec #1: A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe)

Hello Fluffy Bunnies!!

As we Hitchhike through the galaxy, my team is collecting recommendations. Ours can be found here. And you may want to check it periodically as some members appear to of gotten lost in their travels and we also plan to update it with good books read during Wheel.

Happy Reading!!

message 129: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Happy Monday team!
It seems that other teams are being all organized about recommendations. So let's make it easy on them as well to find out what fabulous books this team loves. Pick one, pick ten, list them here and I will collect them into a single spot and share the wealth.

I will start with three random "I always try to get people to read these" books.
Sleeping in Flame (Answered Prayers, #2) by Jonathan Carroll Just One Damned Thing After Another (The Chronicles of St Mary's, #1) by Jodi Taylor Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson

I picked up the first few Jodi Taylors during an audible sale because of you! They'll be appearing in my team spellings at some point, I'm sure.

Jenny | 8072 comments July's books of the month have been posted. Remember that we get extra points for participation or DQ writing for these. There is no obligation here, but if you are interested, here are the links for this month and July. If you want to volunteer for DQs, go to the thread for the BOM, and volunteer there.

Cool, thank you! I'll start adding in the ones I have checked out/downloaded in other letter sets so I can determine which ones I have that don't work for anything, and get through them before the start. :)

This is so hard
The Zero Game
Sabriel (literally just finished reading it so good)
Camino Island

message 139: by [deleted user] (new)

I had to do 4. I am also really a mood reader and am a player who will only read series in order

message 140: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments I love the Amber books too!

message 141: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Let's see. I'll pick my top three. This is so hard!!

Beartown (Beartown, #1) by Fredrik Backman

Sweet Little Lies (Heartbreaker Bay, #1) by Jill Shalvis

Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

I went with different genres on each one to change it up. I will say that I gave Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott a 5 rating. Those are not the easiest to get in my reading world so if anyone hasn't read that yet y'all totally should during BOM. I'll probably re-read it myself just so we can get the extra points for the questions. :)

funny story. I bought the giant version. It took me a few months to read. I decided it was not only a good idea to bring the 1000 plus page book on a trip where I was flying but it wouldn't fit in my bag. Either I was carrying it in one hand, luggage in other unless they were caring luggage or book. Since, it was so huge flight attendant noticed it and started looking at it. It inadvertently became a recommendation for their husband.

Another thing was when I was on an exercise bike and wanted to read. I put the book down on top of the controls and it accidentally set me up a workout for someone 40 years old. I'm in college right now so it's kind of funny

message 146: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I’ve had the Amber series on my list forever. Might have to read a few for this challenge.

I love Sabriel! I’m not usually a big fan of paranormal, but Sabriel is great, the high fantasy/Victorian steampunk mashup world is so fun. Love it.

I know a lot of people have already read it (and I’ve already recommended like 5 books heh), but my favorite book that I try to get my reader friends into is Station Eleven. I’m planning to reread it for the 5th time during this challenge. :D (Don’t worry, the last time I read it was 2018.)

message 147: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments Station Eleven was a marvel. I have not read her new one. Did you read it, and is it any good?

message 148: by Celia (new)

Celia (cealcrest) I actually just finished her newest, The Glass Hotel. It is also really good, but the setting is not apocalyptic. If you liked her writing in Station Eleven (as opposed to mainly the setting), then you will probably like the new book too. Her characterizations are so good, minimal but revealing....

Plus, there are some fun Station Eleven Easter eggs :D

message 149: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8072 comments If you liked the Shakespearean parts of that book, and want something completely different, give Fool by Christopher Moore a try. Bawdy, irreverent, and brilliant.

message 150: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments My TBR list just exploded. I went ahead and added every book y'all recommended because you never know when you'll need a recommendation book or to read a book off your TBR.
