Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Oh Sandra! How scary that was. I'm so glad she's okay. I know that feeling only too well.

I was driving home from work later than usual one night when my son was around 10. There's a crest in the highway where you could first see our hayfield. I thought, "What if Alan is lying unconscious in the hayfield?" When I got to the house, the dogs were inside and nobody home. I walked in to find a note to call the hospital (the days before cell phones). Alan had been dropped off by the school bus. He jumped onto his motorbike (dirt bike) and chased the bus down the hay field. He flipped the bike end over end. By the time the bus driver stopped and ran over to him, he was lying on his back unconscious with blood filling his mouth. So my premonition was bang on. He was in hospital for a few days with a concussion and has a scar under his chin. Just reading Sandra's story brought that icy chill that runs through your spine right back.

Tasha wow, that's quite a story, Janice. Scary.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Terrible thing to go through, Janice...

message 254: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Yes, I was in shock. The nurses asked me at one point if I was okay.

We had to chuckle though at some of the cards his classmates sent. One read, "Ride horses. They're safer!" Not exactly. :)

How's your daughter now, Sandra? I'll bet she's going to be pretty stiff and sore.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Had a girlfriend once who was taking too long talking in front of the car while I was waiting to pick her up. So I rolled ahead and hit her with car just enough to make a good thump. Looking back now, I should have done it harder. Not really but you know years later looking back at a horrible relationship you can't helo but think man should of run her over. I am very content in my life so of course it doesn't matter other than to joke around about foolish early relationships. Now I see kids 18,19 think their in love and go damn That's what I looked like. What a moron.

message 256: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments 8 years and about 12 break ups later I remember my friend comes over and he says look. We aren't messing with you anymore. You 2 axtually hate each other and if you get together 1 more time I'm kidnapping you and locking you in my basement until you get it in your head you aren't meant to be. Because you know we had been engaged for several years and had 6-8 break ups during the engagement years too. I was a moron. But as you see if I had hit her with the car just a little harder both of us would have been better off. Once she got the casts off and I got out of jail I suppose.

message 257: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oh Travis :)
The things we look back upon and realize how young and foolish we were ;)
I also should have ran over my ex-husband. But then again I probably wouldn't have learned to appreciate a good guy (my current hubby) :-)

message 258: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments My father in law was an avid bicycle rider and out on his morning ride a truck passes him and nails him in the head with the side mirror at 60mph. That was such a horrible event. Didn't kill or paralize him fortuneately and did eventually go back to work and has a pretty normal life. Does have a little different personality from the extreme head trauma. Not the same person he used to be. That's not a bad thing just different. That was traumatic enough of an event for my taste

message 259: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Very true Stephanie. If I hadn't gone through 8 years I never would have met my wife who wasn't from this area and was only here on a 2 month internship. All things happen for a reason and I like to think all that misery was just to put me in position to meet my wife

message 260: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments lol Travis, I can't believe what you are saying!

message 261: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments She is doing fine Janice, thanks for asking. She still sore and swollen, but feeling better. She slept most of the afternoon. I think she finally relaxed after yesterday's shock.

message 262: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm sure she will be shaking off that shock for a few more days to come. I heard that the body will hold onto the shock for a couple of weeks until it realizes it is safe now. I overheard my chiro telling another client of his. So she may find she starts to feel some stuff a couple of weeks following. Just something to keep in mind. Glad she is feeling better though. :)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments It's almost 2AM. The wind is howling, the blowing tree branches are hitting the roof, and my cat - Clyde - is whining loudly at the bobcat looking in the window.

Scared the you know what out of me.

message 264: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Yep - we all make mistakes in love (and life) along the way but as the famous quote goes, it is better to regret something you didn't do than to regret something you did do! I've made loads of bad decisions but like you say Travis, if I hadn't then I would not have met my partner, run my own business or about to live on a boat ;-)

And talking of boats, for those interested in my narrowboat escapades, here are some pictures of our maiden voyage.

message 265: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Does she have aname and 1. Do you name houseboats and 2. Is ot a she since around here everything is a she.

message 266: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments It is indeed a she. All water vessels are. All boats on the British Waterways have to be named for identification. She is called Tosher.

Sarah | 18549 comments Just realised got that quote round the wrong way. Remembers now why I don't bother with quotes.

message 269: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Actually Sarah there isn't a right way for that quote. All depends who you talk to. It's funny because that quote works either way it all comes down to an individuals philosophy

message 270: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I suppose you're right about the quote.

message 271: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments I agree about the quote too! :)

message 272: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Love the pictures, Sarah! Thank you for sharing them :-)

message 273: by Tasha (new)

Tasha She sure is a narrow boat! Great pics, thanks for sharing them.

Sarah | 18549 comments Tasha wrote: "She sure is a narrow boat! Great pics, thanks for sharing them."

She is 6 foot 10 (on the outside) but with insulation and wall panels she end up being 6 foot wide internally!

message 275: by Tasha (new)

Tasha wow. If you ever feel like taking puctures once you get things settled, I'd love to see how it looks inside. How fun, it's definitely an adventure. Enjoy!

message 276: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Once we've moved on and things have their own places (and we're unpacked) I'll be sure to take some pictures of inside and post here. :-)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments I'd love to see pictures too. I can't imagine to live in such a narrow space! Was the trip you did last month your first experience living in a boat?

Sarah | 18549 comments Sandra wrote: "I'd love to see pictures too. I can't imagine to live in such a narrow space! Was the trip you did last month your first experience living in a boat?"

Our boat is open plan (except bathroom and bedroom) and feels much bigger than other boats we looked at because of this. What it will be like once we've moved all our crap in will be a different story ;-) This is what it looked like inside when we picked it up.

And yes, this is our first experience of living on a boat.

So true. It's like comparing battle scars.

message 283: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Someone say scars.

I tear my heart open
Sew myself shut

My weakness is
That I care too much

The scars remind us
That the past is real

Tear my heart open
Just to feel

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Isn't it the Japanese that arr masters of little space and little to no furniture. Pillows on floor and use the screens to make privacy and rooms wherever. Move em all over daily.

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments I'm impressed, Travis!

She is feeling better, Stephanie, a little more animated.
Today I'm taking care of the paperwork, insurance company, etc. First time something like that happens to us, so we don't really know how all of this works.

message 289: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Glad your daughter is feeling better Sandra. Are you feeling better? Besides paperwork of course. That makes me feel off (she says looking at all the filing on her desk).

The boat is gorgeous Sarah.

I loved Travis quoting poetry and then saw it was Papa Roach lol. Thanks for that laugh.

message 290: by Tasha (new)

Tasha the boat looks so fun! it will be so cozy and fun to decorate.

Sandra, glad your daughter is feeling better.

message 291: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments I'm feeling better too, Rusalka, handling the bad "what if" thoughts.
Paperwork is the worst thing in the world. Is part of your job doing it?

message 292: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments OOoo yeah. Doing the filing I've been putting off for *cough*4*cough* years.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Sarah - thanks for sharing the pictures of the boat. So cool. Those tunnels look scary!

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Rusalka wrote: "OOoo yeah. Doing the filing I've been putting off for *cough*4*cough* years."

I need some inspiration. There are piles of paper building up on my table. A lot of it is stuff that needs to be shredded, and there's too much for my shredder to handle. I'll need to take it to the recycle place. Procrastination!

message 295: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Thanks guys! @Cherie - yes that tunnel in particular was a mile long and took us 30 minutes to go through. It was really cold in there. Oh and dark (obviously)! Once you're in there it becomes a little disorientating.

Filing? Well I've found loads of unopened bank statements in a pile in my flat plus loads of old bills etc. So I need to go through those and shred them. But I've just got rid of my shredder. Doh!

message 296: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Good luck all of you with the filing and shreding!

30 minutes in this tunnel sounds scary.

message 297: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Apparently I only needed 5 hours of sleep last night! Up at 4am this morning :( trying to fall back to sleep for at least a few more hours.

message 298: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I usually only get 5 hours. Its 1,2 or 3 hours sleep that gets me cranky.

message 299: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I like to get plenty of sleep 7-8 hours. I don't think I really get that many though. I wake up a few times in the night. The only downside to letting the dog sleep with my hubby me :-)
Blake is at the vet this morning for his routine vaccines and such. I seem to not sleep well before his appts. We don't have human kids so I worry about my fur-kid like I would a human kid, I guess :-)

message 300: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I understand, Stephanie, before I had kids my dog was my baby. :)

Sarah, 30 minutes in a dark tunnel! That is pretty freaky.
