What are you reading in Jan. '15?
Thanks to the Carol Berg thread in this group, I started The Bridge of D'Arnath last month and am now finishing The Soul Weaver before moving on to the fourth book.
I just finished: The Illustrated PROPHETS OF THE GHOST ANTS: Part One, The Roach BoyThe world-building and detail is amazing! Here's my review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I plan on reading the full book in paperback soon.
I recently finished Agatha H and the Clockwork Princess(audio), really enjoy these, though I thought this one (#2) wasn't quite as good as the first, there were a lot of footnotes that got a bit annoying in audio. #3 is out soon though and I will for sure pick it up.I tore through Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and I liked it, even though it turned out to be a much different type of story from I was expecting.
Read Throne of Glass today, a bit silly and romancey, fun fluff.
Nexus Started this on audio this morning, liking it so far.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Brenda.I've just polished off the AMAZING 'In the company of shadows'Series By Santino Hassell and AIS, and I'm starting the year off with "The Steel Remains" by Richard K Morgan, been wanting to get to this book for a while now.
Happy reading all!
I'm about 150 pages into Gardens of the Moon, loving it so far. Also going to start Rough Magick tonight probably and finally finish Unfettered.
I grabbed The Dragons of Dorcastle and Hard Magic. I've gone through a couple of chapters of the latter, and I must say Larry Correia's action scenes play out like an arcade beat 'em up video game. It's gotten boring fast. I was looking for more hard boiled crime fiction-fantasy hybrid like early Dresden Files but got a poorly written comic book so far instead.
I finished and reviewed Katherine MacLean's Missing Man and made extensive edits to the library entry.I started reading Beholder's Eye book 1 of the Web Shifters trilogy by Julie E. Czerneda a favorite author.
Bev wrote: "Helen wrote: "I've started The Woodcutter."
I quite enjoyed that Helen."
Finished it earlier, quite enjoyed it. Not sure what's next. Planning to dip into unfettered through the month.

I started reading Ascension just before the year end and polished off all 4 books in The Trysmoon Saga in 5 days. It's actually more of a single story which is split in 4 books. Read this off Kindle Unlimited and really liked it such that I purchase them outright. Planning to start on The Shadow Of What Was Lost soon.
I finished the final book in the Farseer trilogy, Assassin's Quest. I'm going to read Eragon next as an easy read before I pick something with a little more meat to it.
Don't forget 'The Tawny Man' trilogy to follow the Farseer, Michelle. It just gets better. I loved it all.
Just finished The Curse of the Mistwraith, and started with The Ships of Merior. I'm very happy I'm going to spend this month with Janny Wurts's Light and Shadow series. It was an amazing discovery, I didn't think high fantasy could engage me so much and now I fully realize how glad I am to be rid of this bias. I totally immersed in the intensity (and unpredictability, no easy feat given the prologue!) of the story and style of Mistwraith.

Steel remains is fab. Enjoy!

Manju wrote: "I reading A Game of Thrones and now I know why everyone love this series."Enough said.

Personally for me I love his writing style. The story is never predictable and is still growing. Great world buildings but mainly I love ghe characters.

(Thank you, Ms. Bev.)
I've read the 1st book but since I've seen the series before reading, I couldn't find anything special about the book (sure, writing is superb but I wouldn't agree with predictability), so I stopped reading. I'm a fan of series but have no will to continue with 2nd + books.
Although, I'm always interested in what other people find interesting in mentioned series.
I've, also, read Mr. Martin's The Armageddon Rag and it's one of my favourites (so I do know how skillful the writer is), but even with this one I can't tell he has a great imagination (he likes to mention sex a lot, that's for sure).
Sorry for lots of editing, I'm a perfectionist and even tho English is my 3rd language, I like to polish my posts.
Lára wrote: "Sorry for lots of editing, I'm a perfectionist and even tho English is my 3rd language, I like to polish my posts."Mine is awful due to a touch screen keypad.

I know how it is. My tablet is awful too.
I can't wait to read Tawny Man trilogy Paul. I have it on my shelf ready to go. But I have a list as long as my arm I want to read just in January!
I read Off to Be the Wizard and am now reading Spell or High Water. It's a really fun series to read with lots of geeky references :) I'm looking forward to reading more.
Tracey wrote: "I'm about 150 pages into Gardens of the Moon, loving it so far. Unfettered."I'm on Dust of Dreams at the moment (9th volume in the series), hope you get hooked like I did. I still remember the point of no return for me, which you won't have reached yet. I call it the "Rooftop scene", could not put it down.
I've just finished reading The Convictions of John Delahunt which, admittedly is not a fantasy novel but is an excellent insight into the corrupt nature of law enforcement in 19th century Dublin. Now moving on to The Blade Itself as it's come highly recommended by my good friend Gemma and many fantasy fans in general :)
Rachel wrote: "I've just finished reading The Convictions of John Delahunt which, admittedly is not a fantasy novel but is an excellent insight into the corrupt nature of law enforcement in 19th c..."The blade itself is a very good book, the main characters won't fail to leave an impression, good choice if you like corrupt natures in your books!!
Just started Fool's Assassin (Fitz and the Fool Trilogy). So far, three chapters read and I feel I just dived back in the great univers Hobb had created.
I'm reading Sea Glass at the moment, because I have an ARC of Shadow Study and need to get caught up on the series!

I'm really loving it, Erikson writes characters so well!
Finished A Fish Dinner In Memison and opened up The Mezentian Gate, the final (and sadly incomplete) book in E.R. Eddison's Zimiamvia trilogy.
I'm rereading the whole of the Jim Butcher books, starting with Storm Front. Also just finished Stitching Snow which was science fiction, but a really unique homage to Snow White. Then got through Emissary which I enjoyed thoroughly and still need to review. Holidays are really nice for plugging through that TBR pile!
Frogs, Aristophanes魔界王子 devils and realist 3巻, Madoka Takadono
A Man Against Insanity, Paul de Kruif
Rogues, George R.R. Martin (ed), Gardner R. Dozois (ed)
Enjoying all of them very much.
I finished Golden Son today. If you like sci-fi, this series is a must-read.I finished Throne of Glass this week and started the next book, Crown of Midnight. Solid YA fantasy/assassin series.
Just started the last book on The Black Magician series by Trudi Canavan. Light read buts its ok. And for fun since i kinda missed this during my childhood i read The Twits and The Witches by Roald Dahl.
Cristian wrote: "I'm reading Insurgent (Divergent #2)"Hopefully no one has spoiled the ending of the series for you!
Femmy wrote: "Thanks to the Carol Berg thread in this group, I started The Bridge of D'Arnath last month and am now finishing The Soul Weaver before moving on to the fourth book."That's such a great series. I'd love to read it again sometime!
I'm working my way A-Z through stuff that's been sitting on my Kindle for a while. Finished "F" yesterday,
Flash Gold by Lindsay Buroker. For "G" I'm reading
Game of Souls by Terry C. Simpson.
Just finished Eragon. I spent the whole time reading it convinced I'd read the story before despite knowing I've never read the book before. It nagged at me the whole way through, but an acceptable read, not something I'll ever want to reread but I'll finish the series eventually, because I hate leaving a series unfinished. I'm undecided what my next book will be, I'm torn between the new Pat Rothfuss and Tolkien 's translation of Beowulf. Or I may pick something completely different.
