Hey guys!
The readathon seems like it's going good so far!
What do you all want to plan for November? I'm open to any ideas

Ooo ok that sounds good - any ideas for a specific challenge? Maybe ReLiz, if you want to run something since you haven't had the change since you became a mod?
Also Sarah I have the theme for November BOTM if there are challenge week winners to suggest books. Otherwise I'll open a thread to everyone.

Ok great I'm up for any challenge type, so if you have any specific ideas ReLiz that you want to do
I'll put the BOTM thread up now
Ok then I will start brainstorming and try to think of something
Also your theme won for the November BOTM and Tessa wants to know what you mean by a diverse setting

Ok so here are some basic ideas that I came up with for a reading challenge for November. I thought it would be cool to let this challenge be kinda customized, so like each person participating picks a specific genre, time period, etc.-
- Time Periods: everyone picks a different time period (1890s, Medieval, 1940s, etc) and has to read as many books as they can within that time period
- Genres: everyone picks a genre that they don't normally read and only reads books within that genre
-Anticipated Reads: everyone reads their most anticipated books, books on their shelves that they have been wanting to read but haven't gotten to, etc.
- Setting: we pick a general setting that all books need to take place in
- Page to Screen/Stage: only read books that have been adapted into a movie or play
- Colors: read only books within one specific cover color
- Display Covers: pick books to read solely based on the cover design without giving any thought to the actual story or summary
- Series Finishers: read books from series that you have previously started but haven't gotten to finishing yet

Also I think I'm going to send out a broadcast message after we decide what we are doing for November with updates for the group; here are my topics so far, if you have anything to add let me know
- November Challenge (whatever we decide will be added here)
- Readathon reminder to enter completed books and end date reminder
- BOTM November nominations

Hey! So what challenge do you all want to do for November? I put some idea above. (ReLiz this is specifically you since you want to run it)
Ok then ReLiz it is ultimately up to you, so whichever one you want to run and think would be fun. Out of those three the two that don't get chosen, we will definitely save for another month!
Hey guys!
Happy (almost) Halloween!!!
I am going to send out a broadcast message with updates later today, but I need you all's confirmation on a few things.
Sarah- is challenge week for October still taking place right now? If so I will remind everyone to do that
ReLiz- I want to put an announcement about whichever challenge you have chosen to do, so let me know for that
Also ReLiz, when you get the chance, we should probably put out the instructions, rules, sign ups, etc. for the challenge. If you need any help, I'll be on for a little longer today and maybe more tonight.

Omg it looks awesome! You are really good at explaining things and all haha.
Also I will be adding up final scores for the readathon and announcing teams tomorrow

Oh yes that would be great! Do you have any specific ideas?
The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is something with 300 pages??

Ok so I'm going to put out the theme suggestion for December BOTM, we had a cool new idea with single words as themes rather than the generic themes that I think I might do.
Also we have had a few requests to do a Winter Readathon the month of December similar to the Spooky October one, with Christmas, winter, Hanukah, etc. books if one of you all wants to run it this time?

OK! If you want to, that would be great.
Ok so I have a few new ideas for the group to possibly help increase participation and activity. Let me know what you all think and if there is anything you want to change/add!
- Since we now have quite a few past BOTMs that are the first in series, I was thinking I would do a Series Catch Up BOTM along with the normal monthly BOTM. So I would go through our group bookshelf and put all the book from series in a poll. What do you all think? Should we do this monthly or every other month?
- Discussion Leader: Discussion on BOTMs have been a little slow, and I've seen other groups use discussion leader. For this, after the book has been chosen, we would put out a topic for "Discussion Leader Sign-Up" where members could sign up to lead the BOTM discussion, ask questions, start conversations, etc.
- Maybe doing some Buddy Reads?
- Book Nooks - members request to open a "book nook" where they can chat with other members about their readings, give updates, etc.
- Monthly Newsletters - having a section where we put a newsletter with updates for the month ahead, we could each take 3 different months to write the newsletter for to split it up

Also we just got a challenge suggestion that I think would be fun to do in January as a New Year's Resolution Challenge
Here is the link to the suggestion : https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Ok cool so then do you think we should do Series catch up BOTMs every month or every other month? Also we could either start that for December or for January
We are only 7 members away from 600!!!!
So Sarah I remember you said we should do something to celebrate, here are the ideas that I came up with
- A 600 minute readathon (10 hours)
- 600 page readathon
- Elect another new mod?
- Read books related to certain words (600, members, celebration, etc.)

Ok great! Once they give their opinions we can start planning.
Maybe let's start the series BOTMs in January then.

Yep that sounds great! Hmm maybe we could throw in another genre, like something happy and fun for the holidays - maybe books about family or contemporary?
Ok I think this is a really cool challenge idea given by Emma for a yearlong 2021 challenge:
"What if we did something with our Goodreads Reading Challenge, like where you divided up your number (for example purposes, let's say I wanted to read 24 books) by 12. And then every month we had a challenge category, similar to what we do now, and tried to read our allotted amount of books each month? And maybe on one of the months, we do a sort of catch-up month in case you didn't read the amount you needed to. We could also maybe have a thread for encouragement and recommendations and stating our goals."

Oh that would be a cool add on!
Maybe we could come up with like 12 different genres plus some extra options, then those would be optional or something if you want to challenge yourself more?
