Joanna Rainy day in the garden...everything is rejoicing now! It was badly needed.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Those pictures are absolutely beautiful!! :)

Thanks Emma! :) It started pouring as soon as I went out, so the lens kept getting wet!

Emma | meadowroselibrary Oh no!

Hi Meg,
I agree with Emma, it is beautiful.
Your pride and joy! You are in your
element (pre-mountain time).
It is wonderful to see the garden
lush and vivid after the rain.😃
Is that a lilac tree?
Lilies of the valley?
How Beautiful!
You could make your own perfume!

Thank you, Ruth. :) Yes, those are lilacs, and lilies-of-the-valley, both are heavenly fragrant right now!

Joanna My mom, sister and I went to Aroostook State Park for a couple of hours this afternoon!

Joanna Echo Lake...a bit too civilized for me, but it was fun to sit and watch the little catfish!

message 411: by Joanna (new)

Joanna The highlight for me was seeing this venerable old white pine, which has been named 'Castle Tree'! It made me think of those lines from James Russell Lowell's poem, 'The Growth of the Legend'...

"And it grew itself, like a true Northern pine,
First a little slender line,
Like a mermaid's green eyelash, and then anon,
A stem that a tower might rest upon..."

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments Hi Meg,
What a lovely afternoon!
I am glad that you all enjoyed you little jaunt.
These are fantastic photos.
Nature looks untouched.
How refreshing.😌

"Like a mermaid's green eyelash, and then anon,
A stem that a tower might rest upon."
An elegant analogy.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Absolutely lovely! 😍😀

message 414: by Joanna (new)

Joanna It was lovely...my mom and sister would add, "if it weren't for the mosquitoes and black flies"! They must taste better than I do, because I wasn't bothered! 😂

Probably because, even sitting down, the
pestilential creatures can't keep up with you.😄

You probably smelled like a bear. 🤣🤣

If I go into the woods by myself I do get bitten up, but if I'm near anyone else in my family, I don't get bitten and they do! My theory is that they must prefer certain blood types?

WHAA?? 🤣 I've been told that you can often smell a bear before you see it...and it's not supposed to be a pleasant smell!
A friend of ours has had the same experience...the bugs leave him alone but swarm his wife and children. He says they must not like the taste of sinners! 😳

Oh that's horrible! 😲🤭
When my family and I lived in TN, ticks are EVERWHERE!! My family, especially Allyson, would get a LOT on them every year, but I would only pull like maybe 2 off. I never did understand that. But, of course, I am now the only one in my family that has an allergy now from red meat, from a tick! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🤣

Oh dear. 😌 Ticks are nasty...and dangerous. I'd almost forgotten about there existence up here! In MO we had seed ticks (I guess they are actually just baby ticks, but for some reason we never saw them when we had lived in VA, though we had regular ticks)...anyway, the first summer we lived there my sister and I both got covered with them. But the next 2 years we were there I don't think I got a single tick! 🤷 From there we moved to WI and everyone else in my family got ticks but I didn't.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Wow... you sure lived in a lot of places! 🤣🤭

Emma | meadowroselibrary Yes, seed ticks were horrible!

Joanna Emma wrote: "Wow... you sure lived in a lot of places! 🤣🤭"

Yeah, I've lived in 6 states so far! Now my dad is talking about moving again...I'm not too happy about it, but we'll see. 😌

Emma | meadowroselibrary Did y'all know that today marks 150 years since Charles Dickens death?

I was just going to ask Emma, but now I'll ask both of you!😃 Have you ever read any of Dickens' works, and if so do you have any favorites? 🙂

message 430: by Allyson (new)

Allyson Jamison | 170 comments I tried one but now I don't remember which one it was but I could NOT get into it! I also tried a tale of two cities but I hardly started that one, I wasn't in the mood at the time. But I recently got great expectations and I think it looks good and I'm eager to try it. What about you?

Emma | meadowroselibrary I have not read any, but would like to someday... Which one would you suggest to start out with?

message 432: by Joanna (new)

Joanna A Tale of Two Cities is actually my favorite Dickens. 😄 I do think you both would enjoy Great Expectations. It's not quite as lengthy as than some of his other novels and it's just a really good story!

I'm back finally! On a laptop! Yay! Enough with that mobile app. My new laptop arrived tonight. Finally I can see everything. If I could do a cartwheel without fear of breaking a hip I would.

I felt lost on that mobile app but it was better than nothing. And I upgraded my iPhone but I'll deal with activating it tomorrow. Tonight I just want to relax and read. And then I have to deal with going for the brain mri on Friday. Not looking forward to that.

Pink Lady's Slipper

Emma | meadowroselibrary Is this close to your house?

message 444: by Joanna (new)

Joanna It's maybe a 10 minutes' walk from the house, in the woods surrounding our property.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Wow! I would be hiding in my closet (with my book and some coffee) for a week after I saw that! 😂😂

message 446: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Emma, are you in there?? 😂

Emma | meadowroselibrary You trying to give me a heart attack?? 😂😂😂
Okay, change of plans. I'd stay underground in a basement for a week. 🤣🤣
How'd they even get that picture? It's surprisingly not blurry. 😂

message 448: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Emma?

Emma | meadowroselibrary There's just no safe place!!!

message 450: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Nope! To be honest I think I'd rather meet a bear in the woods than in the house! 🤣
