Hi Meg
Congratulations! You got your bear with the bonus of cubs.
These are fantastic pictures, talk about timing.
Bear cubs are cute and entertaining to watch,
especially when curiosity gets the better of them.
I can imagine the fright you gave your mother to
get a closer view of your prize.
😠😃-"Say Cheese!"📸🐻
You are adventurous, Meg Dunham.
My goodness, what a contrast from message #241 on
May 9th- at last the fullness of spring.
Thank you for sharing these events.

The puppy I'm holding is Luna from our most recent litter (the mama is Ruth 😜). The last two just left yesterday. 😭 Our dogs are VERY well loved for sure!! 😄❤️

Thanks, Ruth! :) I felt that I was a safe distance away from the bears as I can run pretty fast and was still closer to the house than I was to the mama. ;D
Yes, spring seems to be here at last!! The last few days have been in the 60s and there are even some 70s in the forecast...I've just about been living outdoors and am now burned to a crisp! The grass is getting very green and the trees should leaf out quickly. This is my favorite time of year. :)

message 260: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Emma, that puppy is soo cute. Was she your favorite in the litter, or can you choose a favorite? (I usually can't). :)

Emma | meadowroselibrary Meg wrote: "Emma, that puppy is soo cute. Was she your favorite in the litter, or can you choose a favorite? (I usually can't). :)"

I really *shouldn't* chose a favorite.... But yes she was my favorite in this litter. 😅 But that whole litter was the sweetest cutest little bundle ever!! 😋😉😆 We don't have any puppies now, and we're going to have a pretty big gap before my dog Mandie has puppies. 😫 We already have 5 deposits on her litter, and her average litter is 6! 😯

It's hard to have a favorite when they're all so cute and sweet! :) However, I've found that there is usually one in every litter who chooses me. :D It's hard to see them go...when you take care of them from the moment they're born they get to be almost like your children, right? ;)

Emma | meadowroselibrary Haha yes! I get SO attached to every litter, it is so hard to let them go! They do become like your children. :D When will you have puppies again?

Do you keep in touch with the new owners and/or get to see any of them again? That's the good thing about also having a boarding/grooming business...I do see quite a few of mine! :)
I'm planning to have another litter sometime this fall.

Joanna I was out hunting a groundhog who has been wreaking havoc in my gardens. As usual it was nowhere to be found when I have a gun in my hands! Some ducks flew overhead and landed in a swampy area at the edge of the woods. I decided I might as well go down and look at them...I took one peak into the woods and who do I see but Mama Bear!! Ok, I like seeing them once in a while, but I don't really like the idea that they are hanging around where I go walking all the time! :O

Quite a few of the people keep in touch with us, send us pictures regularly. We've gotten to see just a couple again. I'm hoping we get to see one of Mandie's again, one of hers that was sold of her last litter, the people are coming back this time for another puppy!

This is Lolah from Mandie's past litter, the people who's coming back for another.
(Hopefully the pic works...)

That's good that many of the owners share pictures with you...I always appreciate that too. :) I've also had a couple of people get a second puppy after having bought one from a previous litter.
It seems I can't view the picture...it just tells me I have to log in to Facebook, which I don't have. :(

Emma | meadowroselibrary Hmmm I'll have to try to send the picture different. I don't remember how I did it the first time.

I'd tell you how to do it, but when I type out the code without a picture it doesn't show it, it just says "Image error"! :/
Ok, let's see if I can fool the computer...

There, did it!! :D So there's the code...you just need to delete all the spaces I added except the one between img and src, and paste the image link between the quotation marks. :)

Hi Meg,
That is a good article, it is generally assumed
that black bears are aggressive, the characteristic
of grizzly lending itself to bears in general.
The photos of mother and cub snuggling are
sweet.
Will you invest in black pepper spray as a
precaution for you walks in the woods?

I learned something new today. Thanks.

Yes, grizzlies are scary, that's for sure!
I think I will get some pepper spray, just to be safe. I was in the woods this morning and there were bear signs everywhere!

This is where I saw the bear again yesterday...

Might be hard to see in the pictures, but the ground at the base of this old stump is scratched up and roots exposed. It wasn't like that the other day when I was here!

Bear tracks...

I almost stepped in this! :D

Just a typical scene in the Maine woods. :)

No, I hadn't! I just looked it up and thought it was interesting that William Cullen Bryant was a member of the club. I'm going to look up a few of the other authors who were members. Most likely more books for my list! ;) Thank you for sharing this, Ruth!!

William Cullen Bryant will be added to my

I read an article that stated black bears in the
Pacific Northwest can strip the bark of seventy

Nearing the end of May and it’s only in the 50’s here. Ugh. A good day to stay indoors reading although I wish I knew what happened to spring here.

Hi Doreen,
I can imagine how restless you are for the fullness of
spring to arrive. I would love to send some Texas spring
your way. Is it usually this cold in May? 😶☕

Incidentally, my sister sent me an article of
King Henry VII in recreating his likeness, as
a history enthusiast, I thought you would this.

We have had a few beautiful days here in southern Ontario to make up for very cold, wet weather the first half of the month. We've been enjoying the activity of cardinals, blue jays and goldfinch in the backyard. The cardinals and blue jays are very noisy!!

We stopped at a beach near Salisbury, MA on our way back last night and it was only 53 and foggy! Hot, hot, HOT up here and very dry, going to 88 today and supposed to hit 90 on Thursday. That's about as hot as it ever gets ups here and we're not used to it. But then it's supposed to cool down into the 50s early next week...gotta love Maine! :D

Joanna A few pictures from the trip...hopefully I'll get around to posting more on my blog soon!

Mt. Katahdin still has snow on it...

We visited Scripture Rocks in Brookville PA on Sunday morning. There are some nice trails through the woods and many of the rocks are carved with scripture verses by Douglas Stahlman (1861-1942).

Not sure if the picture will be big enough on here to read...if not here's a link that tells a little about him. A tragic story of one deluded by the health and wealth gospel...
