Joanna Some interesting facts about the Canadian Lynx...only they forgot to include northern New England as part of their range! The do molt in April/May, so that's probably what I came across in the woods.

Oh goodness, if I see one of those I might never go into the woods again! Lol

Joanna My dad and I went for a drive this evening. We were hoping to see some moose or bear but apparently they had taken shelter from the rain. We did see a lot of deer though, and the scenery alone was well worth the drive! :)

I'm sorry you didn't get to see your bear... (😱) But the scenery is beautiful! 💕

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments These are fantastic pictures, Meg
great views of the river too.
The land is so serene and
it looks autumnal.🤗
I am amazed the doe wasn't frightened,
it was so still, as if you weren't there.
This is a wonderful way to end the day.
The photos are very pleasing,
thank you for sharing them. 😊

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments I am Glad you liked it, Emma.
They are so cute that are are the top of considerations.
Is that Konner or Ruth you are holding in your photo?
It is funny, your website's homepage has Ruth's puppies,
it almost seems prophetic.😄

Emma | meadowroselibrary It's actually Keturah I'm holding in the picture. She's our Havanese. I'm impressed you know their names. :D Yeah, Ruth was her name when we got her, so we kept it because it just fit her! ;D Haha yes that's funny!

😄-It is a wonder you get anything done,
is this the same cat that doesn't allow you
to read and sleeps on your plants?

message 166: by Joanna (new)

Joanna They both get into my plants and try to stop my reading. Actually the most mischievous one is the one who is just laying there looking so innocent in that video! :D They absolutely hate my accordion playing! Lol

Emma | meadowroselibrary Hey Meg, my sister (not Allyson ;D) said she LOVED the accordion playing!

message 168: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Oh I'm so glad she enjoyed it! :)

Emma | meadowroselibrary You are very talented ❤️ :D

message 170: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Aww thank you! :) I wish you'd tell my cats that! Lol

Emma | meadowroselibrary Haha! ;D

message 172: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments Meg,
I agree with Emma.
You are talented, how long have you been playing
the accordion? Do you play any polkas?

message 173: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Thank you, Ruth. :) I've been playing the accordion for about 6 years now. But I'm self-taught so I'm not that good. My favorite event of the whole year is the Swedish Midsommar (Mid-summer) festival in June. My sister and I are a part of a group called 'The Swedish Meatballs' and we play a lot of traditional Swedish folk tunes, including polkas. Here's a video from 2 years ago...alas, no festival this year!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-Uo9h...

Emma | meadowroselibrary That is beautiful Meg!!

message 175: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments This is a jovial festival. Polkas are so cheerful.
How disappointing. Sorry that you and your sister will miss
out this year. I must say, for self-taught you are adept.
Do you practice often?

Here in Texas, polka is in the fabric of the Hill Country with the Czech, Polish and German settlements. If ever there is a place
visit Texas it is here, spring in particular.
I do love the polkas, in school were taught how to dance the
Polka, I had such a great time of it.

message 176: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 86 comments Hard to keep up with the chat here, but I loved the video, Meg! Polkas sound like such fun, Ruth! My husband had Czech ancestry. He would have enjoyed the polka, I imagine!

Meg, if you don't mind me asking, are you Amish?

message 177: by Allyson (new)

Allyson Jamison | 170 comments That sounded wonderful, Meg!! You're very talented!! Accordion must be a very fun instrument to play.

message 178: by Joanna (new)

Joanna You all are so kind! :) Ruth, I love polkas too but have never danced one. That must be fun!! Sometimes I practice regularly, and other times I'll go a few weeks without playing anything. It just depends on what else is going on and what mood I'm in, I guess. :)

message 179: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Margaret, we are actually Russian Orthodox. My dad is a priest and we have a little mission church here. My family has lived among the Amish a lot though. My dad used to teach school for them and now drives for a small community up here.

Thanks Allyson...yes it is a fun instrument to play. I always did like to press buttons! :D

Margaret | 86 comments Meg, that is interesting! I have an orthodox friend and have learned a little along the way! Not many Russian Orthodox in Maine, I'm sure!

No there aren't, especially up here! But we do have a several people attending regularly (or did, before this virus hit). There is also a family across the border in NB...they have 5 kids. I miss them so much!!

message 183: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 86 comments I hope they open the border soon! Meg, you are living close to where my ancestors lived. My grandmother was from Perry, Maine and my Dad's side were from Woodstock and other towns in Carleton, NB. (I miss my church family as well! Our priest hopes we will be back together by Pentecost)

That is neat!! Our church friends live near Woodstock. It's a long drive for them to come to church but they are very dedicated. We are also hoping that everything will be open by Pentecost. :)

Joanna I was just checking the Mt. Katahdin webcam a few minutes ago and the scene was so beautiful I snipped the picture! :)

scent of the Maid of Orleans jasmine.
The cool wind was so refreshing,

The moon shining above me and
all I could say was 'Thank you".

Thank you for sharing your beautiful evening, Ruth. I love being in the garden at dusk...many flowers are more fragrant then.
We've had some beautiful evenings here lately too. As I was walking across the field at sunset the night before last, the words of Peter at the Lord's Transfiguration went through my mind... "Lord, it is good for us to be here."

message 189: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 86 comments Wonderful webcam photo of Mt. Katahdin, Meg! Quite awe inspiring. And, Ruth, Is Maid of Orleans jasmine the same jasmine we might have in tea?!

Hi Margaret,
Good question!
Yes, in fact the very same.
Have you tried it? Jasmine tea is rather good hot or cold.

I like that, Meg.
There is something special about that time
from just before sunset to dusk; the elegance
of nature as the day comes to an end.
God chose to walk with Adam in the cool of
the day. Yes, it is good for us to be here.

Just putting my two cents worth in here. I know we just started reading Walden and it's still a long way to go before the start of the next read but I think I have some good ideas swimming around my head. Still being in lockdown gives you a lot of time to think and sometimes that's not always a bad thing. I'm learning a lot and getting out of my comfort zone. I still return to it but I'm willing to embrace things I probably wouldn't before joining this group. Thank you everyone for helping me to see the light as it were.:)

I'm glad you are enjoying the group, Doreen. I feel that I'm learning a lot too from our discussions. :)
It's hard to believe but it will be time to start taking nominations for our June read soon and I'm looking forward to seeing what we pick this time!

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments June nominations already.?!
🤔-I will have to narrow down some ideas.

experience; it is this distinction that stay with one for life.

Meg, I am learning a great deal as well, which is so gratifying.
I am discovering more about myself as I am startled in
processing my thoughts in the discussions
