Hi Allyson, I was just getting ready to update you! 😊 It sounds like a lot of fun, but I have some doubts about how much I would have time to participate. Also, the last couple of days I've been noticing that my thoughts were flowing more freely and today I actually felt like some things were starting to take form (although I have yet to write anything down!😏). I asked myself what was different, and realized that I'd been spending a little less time online and more time outdoors! So I don't know, maybe more quiet time in the woods is what I really need.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Meg, how is your dad doing?

He's been feeling quite a bit better though still coughing a lot and hoarse (sometimes he sounds like he could sing soprano!😂). No shortness of breath, thanks be to God! He did finally talk to his Dr. today and is supposed to go get tested tomorrow. We are really hoping it comes back negative, although I admit my hopes are pretty slim.

Emma | meadowroselibrary I hope so too! ❤️

Hi Meg,
No shortness is a good sign.
We hope and pray that everything goes. ❤

Allyson Jamison | 170 comments Meg, you can be on there as least or as often as you want, it's your choice. But when you are on its super fun!! That's great that the words are coming better! If you don't want to that's fine, but if you want to that would be great!😄😉😆 Just let me know.

Oh Allyson, I'm so sorry...I hope it didn't seem like I was ignoring you!! I saw this earlier when I didn't have a chance to reply, and then it got lost amid other things. I'd love to join but to be honest I'm already feeling slightly overwhelmed so I think I'll have to decline your gracious invitation. I do really appreciate it though! 😊

message 609: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Thank you all for the prayers...they are much appreciated. ❤ We should know sometime tomorrow.

Joanna I thought I would share another one of my hobbies. 😊 A couple of years I learned about the wonderful world of Japanese morning glories...life has not been the same since! 😄 There are countless varieties and mutations with amazing colors and markings. I grow them mostly in containers because of our short growing season, but the Japanese also do it this way.

Right now I've got 4 or 5 different varieties growing, 2 of which are already starting to bloom. This one is 'Chocolate Rose Silk'...

This one is a bit of a mystery. I made the mistake of not labelling when I transplanted these, so I don't know what variety they're supposed to be. A couple of people have told me it looks like 'Fuje Musume', but I don't even have seeds for that variety! Varieties can also be a little unstable, so growing MGs is full of surprises!

And here are a few that I grew last fall/early winter (I started them in July and August and brought them indoors when it started to turn cold). These are called 'Star of India'. As you can see, there is a lot of variation!

The same flower later the same day...

And this one is 'Akatsuki no Tsuyu', or 'Blue Silk'. It looks quite a bit different than it's supposed to though. I suspect it was due to the colder temperatures (this bloomed in late November and it was chilly even indoors!)…

Some varieties also have pretty variegated leaves!

Emma | meadowroselibrary Absolutely beautiful Meg!! My favorite are the mysterious ones. ;D

Emma | meadowroselibrary You sure have a talent for taking beautiful pictures!!

message 621: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Thanks Emma! 😊 The mystery flower is my favorite right now too, although I have a few yet to bloom that I have even higher hopes for!

You have done your green thumb proud.
This is the first variegated Morning Glory I have seen.
These are lovely Meg.

Joanna And the most exciting thing we get is smoke from forest fires in Quebec! But if we don't get a good rain soon you all might start getting dust from Maine too. 😂

Joanna This makes me sick...
"The statue of the poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier (located in Central Park, in Whittier, California) was vandalized.

In 1833, John Greenleaf Whittier published the antislavery pamphlet “Justice and Expediency.” He was a founding member of the American Anti-Slavery Society and signed the Anti-Slavery Declaration of 1833, which he often considered the most significant action of his life."

Yes, I've considered doing that myself since my sister sings so high that no one else can reach the note without a ladder! 😂

message 639: by Joanna (new)

Joanna We went to the library today for the first time since March, I think! My sister and I each checked out 5 books...now we have no idea which one to start with! 😂

Hannah Alane | 662 comments OOOOOO!!! What literary treasures did ya find!!!?!

message 643: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Hannah wrote: "OOOOOO!!! What literary treasures did ya find!!!?!"

I checked out Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather, The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper, New Englands Legends & Folklore by Samuel Adams Drake and 'Reminiscences of Other Times', by Ruth Keech Whittier, which is a history of one of the first settler families in this part of Maine, and we live on their original homestead!
Any suggestions on which one I should pick up first? 😁

message 644: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Alane | 662 comments Sounds like you got lots of good reads!! How on earth are you going to finish them all!?! Haha! Death Comes for the Archbishop sounds good! Never heard of it before! Just got the Moonstone, it looks so good, doesn't it? But which one to start first....whooooh, that's a hard decision!!

Joanna Hannah wrote: "Sounds like you got lots of good reads!! How on earth are you going to finish them all!?! Haha! Death Comes for the Archbishop sounds good! Never heard of it before! Just got the Moonstone, it look..."

Haha, I learned my lesson back in March when I limited myself to 2 books and then the library closed the following week! Hopefully that won't happen again but I'm a little paranoid! It's definitely enough to keep me busy for a while, especially since I have a few other things to do besides reading... 😂

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) Meg, which family was that?

Joanna MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) wrote: "Meg, which family was that?"

I'm sorry...I'm not sure what you're asking about, MaryAnn?

message 648: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Oh, do you mean the family that settled here? Their last name was Whittier...I'm going to have to read more of the book to get the whole story straight though...

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) Meg, yes that was what I was asking. As a genealogist, when someone says "family" my ears perk up. I am just now getting to know my New England and East coast families.

Thanks for posting the Whittier poem. I liked it a lot.

Ugh when it rains it pours. Now I’m having problems with my cable and internet so I’m using the backdoor way to access this site via the mobile app which I hate on my phone. It’s better than nothing I guess. Cable company is supposed to come today between 12-2 to fix things but I’m not holding my breath.
