LaurLa | 5118 comments Hi Kathy - Here are your picks for January! Hope you enjoy!!!

MAKE NEW FRIENDS

New to them author:
NEW: Everyone Loves a Hero....and that's the problem – Marie Force -- This is one of my favorite authors!!
TBR: Engaging The Enemy – Susanne Bellamy -- This looked interesting on your preferred shelf and I don’t see the author on your Read shelf, so I hope it's really a new author to you :-)
Everyone Loves a Hero....and that's the problem by Marie Force Engaging The Enemy by Susanne Bellamy

New to you author:
NEW: One Reckless Summer – Toni Blake -- I discovered Toni Blake and this series this year and really like both. I look forward to reading other books by her.
TBR: Tempted – Elisabeth Naughton -- I discovered her Stolen series this year but haven’t yet read this series, though I have it!
One Reckless Summer (Destiny, #1) by Toni Blake Tempted (Eternal Guardians, #3) by Elisabeth Naughton

New Release:
NEW: Heroes Are My Weakness – Susan Elizabeth Phillips -- For both of these I wanted to find stand alone books – I was surprised that this is the only stand alone released in the last 6 months that I've read… guess I’m really glued to series!!!
TBR: Stepbrother Dearest – Penelope Ward -- I read Gemini by this author and loved the premise if not the execution as much – I felt like she needed a good editor and not just for typo’s, simple grammar mistakes. Even so, I really liked the story itself, so I’d be willing to give her another chance – I’d be interested if her writing/editing improves with this one.
Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips Stepbrother Dearest by Penelope Ward

New Series:
NEW: When You Dare – Lori Foster -- I don’t see Lori Foster on your Read shelf or your preferred shelf… she is one of my favorites!
TBR: Hell on Wheels – Julie Ann Walker -- Love love love this series!!!
When You Dare (Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor, #1) by Lori Foster Hell on Wheels (Black Knights Inc., #1) by Julie Ann Walker

KEEP THE OLD

Their Favorite Author:
NEW: Long Road Home -- Maya Banks – You seem to enjoy reading Maya Banks(I do too!) but I don’t see this one your Read or To Read shelves, so maybe it’s a new one to you. I have it in my TBR but haven’t read it either… looks like Rom Suspense from the blurb, so maybe in line with her KGI series.
TBR: Rock Addiction – Nalini Singh – You have 3 different series by this author on your preferred shelf – I’m going to take that to mean she’s one of your favorites ;-)
Long Road Home by Maya Banks Rock Addiction (Rock Kiss, #1) by Nalini Singh

Your Favorite Author:
NEW: Welcome to Temptation – Jennifer Crusie -- One of my all time favorite authors! You gotta give her a try…
TBR: Miss Firecracker – Lorelie James -- Of all the authors on your preferred shelf, this is probably my most favorite (with Jill Shalvis or Kristen Ashley coming in as close seconds). I've read this book and thought it was a fun quick read!
Welcome to Temptation (Dempseys, #1) by Jennifer Crusie Miss Firecracker (Wild West Boys, #2) by Lorelei James

Older Book:
NEW: Holding Out For A Hero – Amy Andrews -- Again, wanted to find stand alone's for these. This is one of my 5 star reads this year but was published in 2013.
TBR: Far West – Mairwen Ryder -- this looks interesting and different than most everything else on your preferred shelf. I do like old west historicals!
Holding Out For A Hero by Amy Andrews Far West by Mairwen Ryder

Next Book in Series:
NEW: On the Edge – Ilona Andrews -- So you aren't technically reading this… yet, but it is on your preferred shelf and I really wanted to stay with the NEW/TBR pattern for each category… so it sorta kinda fits the pattern and the category since it’s technically the next in the series, right?
TBR: Ruby Tuesday – Mari Carr – picked a next in series on your preferred shelf that looked interesting.
On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews Ruby Tuesday (Wild Irish, #2) by Mari Carr

Hi Kathy!

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you...Christmas may be over, but the memory lingers and I'm still getting caught up!

Thanks for the picks! I'm not completely organized for next month yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll at least be reading Shadow Spell. I don't really know beyond that, but I'm sure I'll get to at least one more sometime during the month. I'll keep you posted. :D

message 106: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31870 comments Hi Kristy! So sorry for the delay, but it is a crazy busy time of year and especially crazy for us this year. I hope I found some good picks for you, lots of them were on your shelves but by authors you have never read - so they are sort of a cross between new and not new for you. I have my fingers crossed here!

Make New Friends

New to You Author: You have Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis on your shelves, but you have not read anything by her yet - she is one of my favorites! Lucky Harbor stories are always fun and always wonderful! Another new idea for you - The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann.

New to Me Author: I'm going for new favorites here (as opposed to old favorites) so maybe not exactly recent, but they have both become go to authors for me and I always want to read their new books right away. The very first author I thought of here was Samantha Young, she has yet to disappoint! So I will recommend for you On Dublin Street. Also, The Madness Of Lord Ian MacKenzie by Jennifer Ashley - I do love those Mackenzies!

New Release: I pulled both of these from your preferred shelf. Landline by Rainbow Rowell - this one looks interesting. Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - I love SEP! This might not be my favorite of hers, but I still liked it a lot.

New Series: I love Pamela Clare's work, but the first book of hers I read was Extreme Exposure. Her I-Team books are all great, but I am compelled to start at the beginning! Also my first book by an author who is always reliable - Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas. I love this series!

Keep the Old

Your Favorite Author: This one was really hard for me, you have very few authors that you have on your read shelf more than once or twice! It does look like you have enjoyed Lisa Gardner's Quincy & Rainie series so I am going to suggest you continue with the next one - The Killing Hour. You also have a couple of Julie Garwood on your read shelf so I can't help but to recommend Honor's Splendour - loved it!

My Favorite Author: There is no way I can pick just one favorite, but here are some suggestions from authors I haven't already given you to choose from. Something About You by Julie James - wonderful story, I have loved all her books! Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey - again, everything she writes works for me and the Kowalskis are awesome!

Older Book: Second Sight by Amanda Quick - I really enjoyed the Arcane series and how it moved between all of JAK's aliases and genres. To Die For by Linda Howard - older LH books are wonderful and this one was hilarious!

Next Book in Series: Nora Roberts in one of my old favorites I mentioned earlier and her alter ego J.D. Robb has become one for me too. You have started series by each of her pen names and I will recommend both of them for you here - Heaven and Earth by Nora Roberts and Glory in Death by J.D. Robb.

Happy Reading and Happy New Year!!

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou Making Faces by Amy Harmon

7. Older Book:
Virgin River (TBR), A nice solid beginning to a sweet series. Katherine (NEW), A beautiful story based on the lives of real people in history.

LMAO I really should not be doing picks with 2 hour sleep because I accidentally made picks for the wrong person! Nevertheless I'm sorry for the late picks but December has been way too busy in my household, especially these two weeks!

Make New Friends

New to them author
Slammed by Colleen Hoover
I see you like YA and Colleen Hoover is my favourite in that genre... well one of my favourites! I love her writing and this story will draw you in so badly that you won't be able to put the book down.

New to you author
Sempre by J.M. Darhower
I've literally read every book she's ever written so that's saying something about this author. This book is also a YA but it's ver]y long and can get intense. It deals with kidnapping, slavery, mafia, revenge, forbidden love - a whole conundrum of things that is just soo good!

New Release
Nocte by Courtney Cole
A book that recently been released and has people buzzing. I read it and I totally understand why. What did I read? I'm not too sure myself. All I say is keep your eyes open and remain vigilant because whatever your thinking or guessing is completely wrong.

New Series
It Ain't Me, Babe by Tillie Cole
This series is far away from your taste and deals with seriously messed up stuff. It's a series that I have come to recently love and is very new as well, so there's only 2 books out. I'm waiting for the 3rd one to come out and I literally cannot wait!

Slammed (Slammed, #1) by Colleen Hoover Sempre (Forever, #1) by J.M. Darhower Nocte (The Nocte Trilogy, #1) by Courtney Cole It Ain't Me, Babe (Hades Hangmen, #1) by Tillie Cole

Keep the Old

Their Favorite Author
11th Hour by James Patterson
Saw this on your TR list and it's an author you seem to like, so why not start of the new year with a bang by reading an author your enjoy!

Your Favorite Author
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
I don't really have a favourite author because I have multiple.Though one of my favourites in the YA genre is Richelle Mead. It's CRAZY good and the female protagonist is kickass!

Older Book
I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai
I haven't read this book myself but she is a very brave girl. Stood up for what she believed in, got shot, survived to tell the tale and is still advocating for her beliefs. Malala also recently won the Noble Peace Prize, making her the youngest laureate. A young girl whose willpower will certainly help change a nation.

Next Book in Series
Vanity, Vengeance And A Weekend In Vegas by Kyra Davis
You seem to enjoy reading her book but I did not see this on your TR shelf, so here it is!

11th Hour (Women's Murder Club, #11) by James Patterson Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead I Am Malala The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai Vanity, Vengeance And A Weekend In Vegas (A Sophie Katz Murder Mystery #6) by Kyra Davis
Enjoy reading and seasons greeting!

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1282 comments hi arielle rae

picking for you seemed to be fairly easy for me, and i'm always leery of that, so if you need me to re-pick, please let me know. i chose one book from your shelf and one new one for each option.

make new friends

new to you author
Feral Sins (tbr) - i already recommended this one this month, i don't like to duplicate recommendations, but i really like it. the second one is even better. it didn't look like you had read this author before.
Edge of Sight (new) - i didn't see much romantic suspense on your shelves, and this is a newer, well-written one.

new to me author
Grimspace (tbr) - i really liked this book when i read it last month.
Shadow and Bone (new) - this book is in the running for my favourite book of the year. i have the two sequels lined up to read next year.

new release
Frozen (tbr) - released aug 2014. i like the one book i've read by this author.
The Year We Fell Down (new) - released mar 2014. this one surprised me with how well it was written. i immediately bought the others in the series.

new series
How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire (tbr) - amusing pnr series
First Grave on the Right (new) - somehow, i just connect with charley.

keep the old

your favourite author
Wildest Dreams (tbr) - one of your favourite authors, you haven't read it, giving you a nudge?
If You Dare (new) - another one of your favourite authors, although not in her familiar genre.

my favourite author
Blue Dahlia (tbr) - i have many favourite authors, and she's at the top of my list.
Patriot's Dream (new) - she was such a great writer, and this one is one of my favourites.

older book
Ember (tbr) - published 2007. i've heard good things about this story.
One More Valentine (new) - published 1993. this is a quick read, really well written and not as dark as her usual stories.

next book in a series
Son of No One (tbr) - next in one of your favourite series
Magic Burns (new) - next in the kate daniels series. ps. they just keep getting better.

i hope that you find something that you enjoy.

~KarenH~ | 11382 comments Hey Katherine, remember that if you're one of those obsessive people who HAVE to read a series in order (like me!) you can read a different book in a series than what was recommended to you. If that doesn't bother you however, I have to agree with Karen, I didn't like the first one in the series all that much either!

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1282 comments Tania wrote: "I'm that obsessive :)"

tania, i've been amazed to discover that there are many, many people that are that obsessive since i've started interacting here on gr. as long as it's a standalone, i'm fine with reading series out of order. for example, i read Devil in Winter, then It Happened One Autumn. also, read Beast Behaving Badly loooong before i read anything else in the series. and then...have i made you have heart palpitations yet? sorry!

I did, just a little... When I remembered it was you and not me, it eased the panic a bit. =)
