Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—award winning author Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Elisabeth now writes full-time.

Though primarily known for her romantic suspense work, Elisabeth has penned over thirty books and continues to write in multiple genres, including paranormal romance and contemporary romance. Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have earned several award nominations, including three prestigious RITA® nominations from Romance Writers of America. In 2017, REPRESSED, the first book in her Deadly Secrets series, won the RITA® for best romantic suspense.

Elisabeth's work has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as being filled with "deadly intrigue, high adrenaline action, and scorchingly hot passion.” Kirkus calls her "a writer talented enough at weaving a yarn to get her readers ensnared in it.” When not dreaming up new stories, Elisabeth can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home, wrangling two cats, or chasing after one very rambunctious Dalmatian.

I loved Wait for Me, https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... and having been introduced to Mitch, who I found totally adorable and engaging, I was so looking forward to his story.
Somehow Hold on to Me, the sequel kind of disappointed me. I was totally frustrated with each page I turned..this was me…..
 photo 200_s_zpsvscnp7in.gif
The reason….Simone!!!! What the hell happened to the sexy, sassy woman we met before???
She turns into this totally unrecognizable person!!!! I lost any connection I had with her!!
Her behavior towards Mitch was absolutely appalling. Why did she not come clean about her past? Why would it change the feelings she had for the guy???
So, here we have her….Oh Mitch…..I’m doing all these stupid things because I love you!!! And I want to protect you!!!! Really….is that how a grown-up behaves???
 photo Emma-Stone-Frustrated-Gif_zpsewwhnuu6.gif
Her daughter shows more gumption than her!!!

And Mitch…jeez….this guy must get his head together!!!
Why they don’t talk and get all their baggage out of the way is beyond me!!! She has secrets….he has secrets!!! And the time they took to tell each other about them is totally insane!!!! If you love each other, why is it so difficult to open up to each other????
 photo lemon-eyeroll_zpsosl5a1kn.gif
It would have solved a lot of heartache and misunderstandings!!!!

What I did like about this book was:
Shannon & Julia’s deviousness and antics
Seeing Kate & Ryan again and getting more about their lives together
Rock star Tate Kendrick….please can we get his book?????

As much as I loved Wait for Me, I was disappointed by Hold on to Me. There were too many misunderstandings and lack of talk for me to really appreciate this story. Also, I couldn't connect with Simone.

In my opinion, what saved the book is:

1/ Mitch.
2/ Mitch and Shannon's relationship.
3/ Shannon and Julia's antics.
3/ The participation of Kate, Ryan and Kendrick. I loved their banters.

I wouldn't recommend to read this book without having read Wait for Me, first.

OHMYGOD!! THE SEQUEL!!!

This time the book featured on Mitch and Simone. I enjoyed it. What I liked about this book is it started off right into the story. No long boring explanation. I was hooked from the start.

However, I was annoyed at one thing: every time when Mitch or Simone tried to explain something, the other one always wouldn't listen. They just shut the other out and walked away. Like when Mitch wanted to have sex with Simone but she tried to stop him. Because she wanted to talk first but Mitch just jumped to conclusion that she didn't want him. I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes when Mitch build up courage to tell Simone about his big secret, she wouldn't let him finished the sentence. They kept doing that the entire book. I’d give 5 stars if it wasn’t for that.

Man would characters just TALK!That was the most frustrating part of the book for me plus the whole secret society thing was just meh! A lot of the book was contrived for me. The heroine has been dating the hero for a few months, he's all in and open while she has secrets about her deceased husband's life, so she ends it with him. He acts like a petulant child, heroine's daughter is mad at him, bad guys come calling, you get the drift. I just wish the characters had just manned the hell up!

I am a HUGE fan of Elisabeth Naughton and I LOVED Hold On To Me!!

Hold On To Me is the second book of Elisabeth Naughton’s Against All Odds series. Even though it is part of a series, Hold On To Me can be read as a standalone. But I do suggest reading the first book, Wait For Me, only because you will LOVE IT!! It was great to see the characters from the first book (Ryan and Katie) make an appearance in this book. And the author does a great job of adding quick recaps from the first book, just enough to allow new readers of the series an introduction to Ryan and Katie.

Elisabeth Naughton is a great story teller. She mixes romance with action and mystery, which I love and adds excitement to the story. Mitch Mathews and Simone Conners have had explosive chemistry since the first day they met. But Simone is an independent woman with some secrets that make her life complicated. But it turns out Mitch also has some secrets that would destroy their relationship. I really love Simone and Mitch but they are both so stubborn! So I found myself sympathizing with both characters and actually not choosing sides. I understand their reasons for deception but I just wanted them both to confess so they both wouldn’t be so miserable!! This struggle is what I loved about this story – a lot of drama and some hot makeup sex!!

This is another great book from Elisabeth Naughton and I suggest all fans of romance should read this! I can’t wait for the next book (which I hope will be about the sexy rocker Tate Kendrick!).

Simone is on her way home, back to her lover Mitch, when she gets a call from a US Marshal, telling her that they... the people she's been hiding from... know where she is. Something occurs on the other end of the phone & she is scared, deciding to grab her daughter and run from Mitch. Meanwhile, Mitch is at home preparing a romantic evening to propose to Simone. Simone walks in and breaks off everything with no explanation. Mitch is angry, tells her to get out, she leaves & picks up her daughter & now her daughter is mad...

I was at first thinking they would run from where they were staying, but instead, Simone & Shannon (her daughter) just go back to their house... and spend several days there... Shannon causes some complications, Simone goes to explain her situation to Mitch, finds an earring in his bed that isn't hers, then they get shot at... from that point they are on the run.

Simone had been in WITSEC & Mitch was a part of a secret society... Both of them have secrets & then there is a conspiracy that runs through the book.

It was good, but there is some back & forth drama that was good, but when people keep secrets, it just gets annoying in increments.

Elisabeth Naughton is a great author. She's good even crossing genre lines. I haven't read the first book & I don't feel like I really missed anything, but I am curious. EN is one of my top 20 but in the upper 10 authors....

Hold On to Me is second in a series, and while it may be read as a standalone (But why would you? Wait for Me is 99¢ as of this writing), there are enough references to the first book that might go over your head initially. In any case, this is one of those blind purchases I'm actually pleased with. Of course, romantic suspense is my kind of genre and almost always entertains me one way or another, but it's largely thanks to Elisabeth Naughton's superb writing that makes this an enjoyable read.

The story hits the ground running—with a heartbreak. Mitch and Simone are both fascinating characters, and the passion between them is searing. They each have too grave a secret, though, and reading about two frustratingly hard-headed leads can be a bit tiring. My only consolation was that I knew they would end up together HEA, because, man, talk about hot and cold. I adore Shannon, Simone's daughter, and enjoy her bond with Mitch. Really well-done and -imagined plot, if a tad outlandish in some parts. I do like the combination of intrigue, excitement, and romance—all in all, a very satisfying experience.

Bloody frustrating read.

I've never had a problem with the originality of plot, the action and the suspense that Ms Naughton writes.

But I'm so sick of the same old, alarming and unfortunate spiel when it comes to characterisation: H/h led by overflowing emotions, leaving loads of secrets between them (for the unbelievable and stale reason of wanting to protect each other), only to jump to the wrong conclusions later...and turning the angst into a level of frustration that makes me want to beg Ms Naughton to let her H/h to grow a sizeable brain that's worthy of her readers.

Why can't the H/h for once, work together to resolve the situation? Where did teamwork, use of intellect and good ol' unresolved tension disappear to, leaving only the cinders of overblown teenage angst between them?

This book could have been much better. Story was a downer until around 70%. I didn't think Simone and Mitch even had a real relationship as they didn't know much about each other.

Reviewed @ Enticed by Books

I feel like this is just not my month! Every book I’ve read so far these past few weeks have been a disaster, not only did they put me in a slump, but they’ve actually managed to kill my drive to read. The worst thing that could ever happen to a reader has happened to me. UGH! I hate this feeling! As for my review for Hold On To Me, I can just copy paste my previous review of Maybe Someday and call it a day because there wasn’t much difference in what the felt for each of these books. Emotionless reads filled with disappointment and anger, disappointment mostly towards the author solely because this type of work wasn’t expected of them :(

When I read Wait for Me last year, I loved it so much that I instantly recommended that book to everyone on the Goodreads list and that is the only time I’ve ever done that. As you can imagine that book meant a lot to me, in fact I still cherish and reread passages whenever in need for some romantic support, so naturally when I heard that there was going to be a companion featuring the main leads brother and lawyer girlfriend, I was beyond excited to read their story, but low and behold, like any other book this month, Hold On To Me turned out to be a pretty mediocre book with hot and cold characters and a storyline that was nothing but too over the top and unrealistic.

Mitch has been dating Simone for quite some time and while their relationship is progressing by the day, both of them are hiding huge secrets from each other without even realizing the cruciality of them. I loved Mitch and Simone in the previous book, but I failed to see their love in this one. They were never fully honest with each other until the very end and that drove me so mad. I’m the type of person who likes to put everything on a table and then figure out a solution for an uprising problem instead of going in circles and omitting the lies in order to “protect” the other party. That’s just bullshit! And precisely why I disliked this book, especially the characters so much! Their behavior made no sense! If you love someone so much, then for god’s sake, be honest and open with them! If Mitch and Simone wouldn’t have played a game of cat and mouse, they would’ve solved the problem way earlier than they actually did, (bonus!) without anyone getting hurt in the process. Another thing that really made me sketchy about the storyline was

All in all, Hold On To Me failed to hold me interested in it’s story. There were a lot of things that didn’t sit well with me, but I was glad to have experienced Mitch’s relationship with Simone’s daughter. These two were adorable and definitely made the story somewhat enjoyable for me.

I enjoyed this book a lot....I think I liked Book 1 better, but it could have been where my mindset was as I was reading this. At times the book seemed to drag a little with a lot of descriptions and not as much dialogue as I like. However, there was a great element of suspense and tying these characters together.

I loved Mitch and completely got where his character was coming from...at times he was a complete jerk, but it was well deserved.

I am hopeful this series will continue on!

One of those romances that gets you frustrated when the characters are too stubborn to admit their feelings or vulnerabilities and they stay apart way too long and you're like yelling at them. But I liked it a lot. Love the Mitch Matthews character. Sounds like the next book will be Rock Star Kendrick, but is the author seriously setting us up for him and 10-yr old Julia to be the next hot item? That seems creepy.

This author just knows how to tug the heart. It's a great read because the characters are just lovable, imperfect and bull headed.

Mitch and Simone are in love with each other. And both have a secret they're keeping from each other. Secrets, that will ultimately tear them apart or make them stronger.

What happened with this book? The first book was sooooo good, I had high expectation for this one but it turned out that Mitch had deceived everyone with his "supposed" laid-back personality in the first book. Now that he got his story, he is showing his true color and he is a jerk! I'm really disappointed with this book

What a book! SO THOROUGHLY SATISFYING!

It was perfect for what I needed. So easy to read, so easy to follow along. Fast paced, and as amazing as the previous book in the series! I LOVED IT! I hope there is more!
I'll definitely read more from Elisabeth Naughton. Such consistency in quality!

What a journey!

I liked book 1 better. But this story certainly had a tremendous amount of angst and mystery. And true love does prevail-- love how much Mitch loves Simone's daughter and wants to be a family. Biggest annoyance in this book was how many times everyone asked Are you okay? And all the I'm fine answers.

“I want that” “ I want you”

Hold on to Me Book #2 in the Against All Odds series by Elisabeth Naughton

Okay I totally was into “Wait for Me” and I loved Ryan and Katie, along with Julia and of course Mitch, Simone and Shannon. So when I realized Hold on to Me was Mitch and Simone’s book I was chomping at the bit.

Like all of Elisabeth’s reads, they keep you captivated. Hold on to Me was no different. This read literally grabbed your heart, breath and soul from the first chapter. Simone is coming back from a business trip in DC and has finally decided she wasn’t going to hold back with Mitch and she wanted her HEA. After a week of emotional conversation with herself she finally realized she was in love with Mitch Matthews and she was going to tell him.

Now while all this is going on with Simone in her head, Mitch the steadfast bachelor, never going to be stuck in a serious relationship, would stay foot loose and fancy free and the player also had an about face. He was in love with Simone, he wanted the house (which he already had) the minivan and he wanted to be a Dad to Shannon. Mitch had the entire week to prepare for Simone’s return home. Had a romantic dinner planned, candles, music the works and he even had the engagement ring. Yes he was going to pop the question.

Sounds perfect doesn’t it. It was up until Simone got the phone call from someone in her past warning her to watch herself and he was so sorry he may have given her whereabouts away. You see Simone had a past with her deceased husband Steve that could prove dangerous if not deadly. She was use to running just to keep her daughter Shannon safe. That one phone call totally destroyed any chance of happiness for Simone. She had to come up with a way to just end it with Mitch and not hurt him she needed to keep him safe and not pull him into her problems. She couldn’t tell him about her past. But when she arrived at his house everything spiraled out of control and the one thing she didn’t want to do she did. She ripped his heart out (and hers at the same time with her words) Simone blurted out in desperation “I told you I didn’t want a relationship, this was just sex and here it comes “I Don’t Love You.” Then she ran, like she always did. Leaving Mitch devastated, shocked and an empty shell. He needed to get away.

When Mitch left without saying goodbye to Shannon she thought all of it was her fault, angry with her mother and just plain miserable, she loved Mitch and was becoming attached to him. Julia (Ryan and Kate’s daughter) had come up with a plan to get Mitch back and to try and get Simone and him back together. Shannon flew to where Mitch was and waited on Tate Kendrick’s front porch for them to come home. Brillant Brillant Brillant. Julia is a smart little cookie. Unfortunately the plan didn’t go as planned. They never do.

This read is full of suspense, danger, intrigue. A Secret Society known as the Cyphers where some members were corrupt, and Mitch became a member his senior year in college. That’s all I’m going to say. You won’t realize you were holding your breath until you actually finish the book. There will be parts that will bring tears to your eyes. My heart stopped when Simone said those words to Mitch “I Don’t Love You”. The twist that will shock you to your toes. But one thing for certain Mitch’s family will do anything for him. I loved Ryan in this read also. Such a take charge guy. I give this read 5* and I so hope we see a book for Tate Kendrick.

After waiting what seems like forever I have finally had a chance to read Elisabeth Naughton's Hold on to Me, the much awaited sequel to Wait for Me. Which in my opinion was one of the best books ever. Not just romance it held so much passion and power

Hold on to Me tells the story of Mitch and Simone, two incredibly important secondary characters in wait for me. It would seem that these two would fall easily into a relationship, without the trauma and stress that Ryan and Kate had to suffer. After all they were two well adjusted individuals with a little baggage that comes from living life and no reasons to not fall in love. *snort* Yeah, Right. This is Ms. Naughton we are speaking about. Instead of a slow sensual slide into love we get secret societies, power struggles, murder plots and abhorrent actions powered by greed. Not to mention Betrayal, Denial and Destruction. Not bad for a "romance".

Single mother Simone Conners has her act together. Kick ass Lawyer and litigator, fantastic friend and loving mother. She has survived the loss of her husband to cancer and moved on. Not only with the basics of life but it seems she has fallen for the ever so magnificent Mitch Matthews. Hopeful of finally having a life, a good life. That is until she receives a phone call from her past. Warning her to watch out she's nit as safe as she thought. Fearing for her daughter Simone's flight or fight instinct kicks in... and she's already fleeing. No second chance at life for her.

Mitch Matthews is the funloving playboy, devoted to his family but his sister's death and undeath (no this is not a paranormal book) changed things for him. Now he wants more. He wants to be a father to 10 yr old Shannon and husband to her sexy mom. He has it all planned out, right down to the music on the stereo and the ring in his pocket. Unfortunately, before he can do more than kiss Simone hello, she's saying goodbye. Breaking his heart with those famous last words... It's been fun but I don't love you. Let the devastation begin.

And that's just the beginning... we are taken on an amazing adventure along with Mitch and Simone. After she realizes that fleeing might not be what's best, Simone back pedals and tries to explain to Mitch... Only then the bullets start flying.. So now they are on the run together only able to trust a select few but determined to find the answers. Only every answer just leads to more questions. And that doesn't include Mitch's secrets...

It all comes down to trust. Just who can you trust? Your lover? Your friends? Your boss? Your elected officials? The police? The Press? And what happens if you honestly believe you can't trust any if them? If no one is who you think they are? Scary thought, isn't it?

There were some fun moments, when Ryan discovered that Mitch had been selected fir a secret society while they were in college and he wasn't.. made me giggle. Talk about a competitive spirit.

There is also an introduction of a third "best" friend from college who seems to have some mysteries of his own. I am pretty sure he will be the subject of the next book. I felt at times that he was an unnecessary appendage and could have lived without him but he didn't actually detract from the story so...

Another powerful book from the mind of the exquisite Elisabeth. Make sure you check it out because it is well worth the read.

I read the first in this series almost two years ago and remembered how much I liked it. I gave it 4 stars. So when I came across this sequel, I was all prepped to like it as well. Only, I wasn't prepared for how quickly it drew me in and wouldn't let go. The tension the author created between the MCs was amazing... I couldn't put the book down because I had to see how they were going to interact next. Yes, there was some action and suspense in the book - well done, in fact - but it was the interaction between the MCs that kept me up until well after 2am when I had to force myself to go to bed.

There were some flaws - the H was kind of jerky. Or maybe childish is a better term. He very much had an attitude of 'fine, if you don't like me then I don't like, so there!' Only, you know, said with totally adult words and much more devastating than when I child says them. As much as he professed to love the h and be hurt by her actions, for a lot of the book, he refused to listen (or hear her). And when he did think about how she might be justified, he was too prideful to allow that in and reach out to her. He tried a couple of times to reach out, let her back in but when she would hesitate out of her own fears and insecurities, he was back to throwing the 'fine be that way' temper tantrum again and shutting down and her out. Instead of trying to listen to her, to understand her fears and actions. So while I could see all this and be mad at him for it, it didn't make me hate him because the author did such a great job of letting us feel his intense pain and hurt which was because of how much he loved her to begin with. He was definitely flawed and immature in his reactions, but of course, he came through in the end. He came to the realization on his own that nothing mattered but her, being together and she was worth fighting for.

Don't get me wrong - the h's reactions were frustrating too. She repeatedly acted (or didn't act) out of habitual fear and refused to open herself up to the H and her friends, so she did bring a lot of her own pain on herself. Of course, being a woman, she realized what she was doing wrong long before he realized his own mistakes and tried to change how she reacted to things.

In the end, these were 2 very human people trying to figure out how to hold on to love when things kept trying to knock it out of them.

As for the suspense story itself - what ended up being a secondary but no less relevant conflict between the MCs was a little contrived, in my opinion. I had to suspend my belief for it - not only about the secret society stuff but the overwhelming coincidence that the only 2 men in her life ended up being part of the same organization. I think it would have made me less skeptical if the author had figured out a way that the H and h were manipulated into meeting for some reason, but they weren't. It was all just coincidence, so that would be my only real disappointment in the book. If your going to go with secret societies and conspiracy stories, you might as well go all out ;-) Regardless, it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book, hence the 5 stars!

Hold on To Me by Elisabeth Naughton is the second book in her Against All Odds series. I read the first book in this series, Wait for Me, which was my favorite romance suspense of 2012. I was happy when I found out that Elisabeth was going to write a sequel, and it was going to be Mitch’s story. I could not wait for Hold on to Me.

The story starts with Simone, who we knew from the first book, as she was Katie’s best friend, and the woman that Mitch was falling in love with. Simone has a hidden past, one she tells no one, and which she and her daughter Shannon have been running away from. Simone finally thinks the past is behind her, and we watch her happily head home from a trip to meet Mitch. But along the way, she gets a disturbing phone call that floods the past to the forefront, and a terrified Simone rushes to pick up Shannon and run again. She runs into Mitch, who is all prepared to ask Simone to be his wife. Because she fears for her life and Shannon’s, as well as trying avoid putting Mitch in danger; Simone tells him it was a mistake, and leaves him heartbroken, as she takes Shannon and leaves.

This was the very start of the book. An angry and crushed Mitch, also leaves to get away from it all, vowing to never trust a woman again. But danger follows both of them, until the only way for them to survive is for them to work with Mitch’s family, including Katie, Ryan, and Tate. The secrets that Simone must reveal, will help them try to find a possible resolution. Ryan takes control, and Mitch is sent away with Simone into hiding.

Their hot chemistry together brings them back into each other’s arms, but both their stubbornness and the ensuing danger constantly seems to bring them apart again. Mitch and Simone’s romance was very steamy, and you can tell how much they love each other. Which was another reason why I wanted to take turns smacking them both at different times. In Simone’s case, she loved Mitch, and it was this belief that she saving his life. Mitch, after being hurt by Simone, took awhile to see reason; but I did feel bad when every time he would bring her back into his arms, something would happen to scare Simone again. Mitch had his own secrets, which if he had told Simone, it would have helped them all.

Elisabeth does a fabulous job creating such wonderful characters, as I was very happy to see Katie, Ryan, Julia, & Tate again. All of them together was great.

Hold on to Me was a great story, filled with non-stop action, excitement, danger and suspense. As I have said, it was a great romance, though I found myself being annoyed with Mitch & Simone a few times. Nevertheless, a great story and one I wholly recommend. If you have not read Wait for Me, I suggest you read that awesome book first, in order to know more about all the characters and Mitch and Simone. However, you can read Hold to Me without much trouble, even if you have not read the first book.
