With regards to checking your reviews here on GR - as long as you've recorded them, and dated when you read them they will be showing in your statistics. So go to "My Books", then you'll see in small print a line of different things to click on...click on "stats" and you'll see the years unfold. Then click on "details" and hey presto, your full year of books will list in the star ratings you've put on them:)

Mary (bookworm60) | 367 comments I worked out how to find my reviews so -

EXCHANGE: I gave 5* to The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Enjoyed are Moloka'i byAlan Brennert and Still Alice by Lisa Genova. I can't decide between them so I'll read both!

Mary (bookworm60) | 367 comments PS. Thanks Sally - great idea!

message 55: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I agree - it is a great idea, Sally! It's like 4 for the price of 2 - we get to see 2 books people have loved (which is interesting in itself) and 2 other potentially good books at the same time!!

I'd like to join in this one!
I have read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and will read another one of hers. For my exchange book I chose Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher, a recommended book was Starting Over by Robin Pilcher, and I have that on my shelves, so I will give that one a go.

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments I'll give this one a go too. I never read as many books this year as I would have liked, but one of my five * reads, which reminded me how much I had loved the crime genre, was

Vicki Tyley's Fatal Liaison and on my recommended feeds I keep seeing a few books but one sticks out with what appears to be sure thing. Bitter Nothings by Vicki Tyley

message 61: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 17 comments I haven't read any 5 star books this year either so I'm going with 4 star choices.

message 62: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Oh dear, I have bitten off more than I can chew with this one!

It seems I only rated three or four out of 102 books in 2014 five stars (picky me). Two have no others by the same author at all, the next has no others by the same author or similar translated into English. The third as no 'readers also enjoyed'....

OK, Exchange: because I loved The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker I will read The Gospel of Loki by Joanne Harris which is also recommended by reader on one of my goodreads groups.

Return is proving tricky.

message 63: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Ok, having found that one of the only possible 'Returns' for me would be ALexander Key, I perused the library catalogue (nothing but DVDs) and then popped over on Abebooks.

The cheapest copy of 'The Incredible tide' by Alexander Key is $217.50 Australian.

I am going to cheat: Because I gave Buried Treasure by Victoria Finlay four stars, I will read Color A Natural History of the Palette by Victoria Finlay

Exchange: I gave A Walk to Remember 5 stars, so I will read The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Brenda wrote: "Oh dear Deborah! What a quandary! Hope you have a year of more 5 star reads for you for 2015!"

I am just pretty picky with my five stars. For something to get five stars from me it has to be pretty much immaculate writing, plot and characters. Plus I have to have fully enjoyed the reading experience AND keep thinking of the novel after I finish reading it. So I suspect many of my four stars would be a five if I was not quite so pedantic.

Really really picky as I said :)

I hope I am as picky about giving a one star, and yet I seem to have so many more one stars on my list.

Kadi (kads) | 99 comments Returns: Wolves of the Calla (I'm reading the book before this one currently so will add this as the next book)

Sarah Kadi wrote: "Returns: Wolves of the Calla (I'm reading the book before this one currently so will add this as the next book)

Influx is an interesting novel. The writing gets a bit sloppy at times but the science is absolutely fascinating and there are some pretty crazy action scenes that involve strange tech.

message 70: by Deb (last edited Dec 27, 2014 01:10AM) (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I had not heard of The Martian or if Influx, they both sound really up my alley though!

Deborah wrote: "I had not heard of The Martian or if Influx, they both sound really up my alley though!"

I have read The Martian. It is very popular. I quite enjoyed it but there was a lot of technical stuff which dragged a bit for me.

message 72: by Sarah (new)

Sarah The Martian grated on me because of the humor. Occasionally it descended into juvenile humor and I would lose more respect for the character. I've yet to see anyone agree with me, though. I told a friend of mine that she had to read it just so someone else can dislike it with me. The science does get pretty intense but I actually liked those parts.

Lol Marianne!!

message 75: by Kadi (new)

Kadi (kads) | 99 comments I loved it too and I do like the technical stuff behind it but when I was reading it I was also doing a hard chemistry assignment so reading about chemistry at the same time wasn't the best timing.

message 76: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Ugh. Science in your fiction and nonfiction at the same time? I'm surprised you had the patience. And The Martian is really intense on the science. I did like that.

I'll try but I'm hopeless with computers O.o I have finished The Rosie Project, I had to read it early it was driving me nuts looking at it, it was a great recommendation and really surprised me :) I will wait for the new year for the Road Home, sorry I re lighted on the first book O.o

Sally906 | 86 comments Hey Anne - it's fine don't fret - you can pick another book for the challenge - many people change their minds as the challenge progresses.

With my summer one I have made a few substitutions already and no doubt will do more. As long as you read the challenge books between the designated dates it doesn't matter if you change them :)

message 92: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Green I didn't read enough books in 2014 to choose from so I'm just choosing from my 5 star list.
Return: One of my all time favourites is The Turning: Stories so I'm going to read Blueback: A Contemporary Fable.
Exchange: The Red King so I will read A Fox Called Sorrow.
Now I have figured out how to add books to my pledge 2015 is off to a good start. My dream is to make time to actually read now hence I'm being unambitious and starting off small.

I must be picky also, Deborah as I only rated two books with 5 stars last year. There were lots of 4 stars, maybe I just have to be more generous in 2015! I like the idea of this challenge though :)
