My favorite book of the 25 was Persian Fire: The First World Empire and the Battle for the West by Tom Holland. He's really an excellent story teller- makes history come alive. I'm just starting on another book of his, Rubicon: The Last Years of the Roman Republic. It'll be an interesting comparison because there are a lot of similarities between the Persian Empire and the Roman.

Just completed #17 Element - Things We Set On Fire by Deborah Reed. While I liked some of the imagery and the characters and some of the twists in the plot, overall the book was underwhelming. There were many times I was frustrated with the excessive prose and just wanted the story to move along. Not worth reading. 2 stars

Just completed #14 Sense - Second Glance by Jodi Picoult. Loved this book! The twists and turns of the book kept me intrigued and guessing at what would happen next. Characters were believable and complex. My only criticism was I wish the ending had a bit more of a wrap to it, but otherwise, excellent book! 4.5 stars
