Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 260 comments Finished The House of Hades and ticked off 'labrador'! Also added the pages and hours :)

Think I might take a little break now, as I am so exhausted. Thinking of watching a movie or something or going to bed real early.

message 152: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments I’ve finished Freshwater and added it for Tennis Ball.

I can’t believe we’re on the the third level already, we haven’t used any of our wildcards and it’s still only Tuesday! Do you think we will be able to use wildcards on level 5, or do you all think we need to use them before we get there?

message 153: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 260 comments I should think we’d be allowed to use them on level 5, but then it’d also be awesome if we managed them all without Wildcards haha!

Puppy looks to have some tough ones, so we’ll see how it goes I suppose!

message 154: by Johanne (last edited Feb 25, 2020 11:00AM) (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Yes, we are on a roll!
We might get another level and if we do I suspect we can use the wildcards there as well. Emily sometimes looks at our threads, so she might see this. Otherwise we can ask in faq thread.

message 155: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments I agree, it would be amazing if we could go through all the levels without using any wildcards. I think some of the dinosaur level ones would be quite tough too, like t-Rex!

You can use the Wild Cards as you need for all levels!

message 157: by Lieke (last edited Feb 25, 2020 11:27AM) (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished The Rithmatist and added it to the spreadsheet for Who’s a good boy.

Unfortunately I had forgotten to bring a new book and I had a longer travel time because I had to take the bus instead of the train.

message 158: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 260 comments Anyone up for reading Jurassic Park xD?

Either way, I just watched The Princess of the Frog and it was just what I needed :)

Trying to decide whether I want to give Siege and Storm a shot on audio, as the ebook isn't really working- I've been on chapter two for weeks now haha!

message 159: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 260 comments Siege and Storm is currently no longer an option for prompts, but perhaps if I finish it we can shuffle some books around, as the book slotted for one of the prompts S&S can work for can also works for others!

Oh no! the horror!
I brought a book on my traintrip today, even though I had the audio (and my boss) with me, but the train stopped for an hour due to a fallen tree, so I was glad I am always prepared bookwise :)

message 162: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Good evening, team!

Glad to see you’re all making awesome progress:)
I’m having a busy work week it seems! Just started a new job two weeks ago, and I’m now in that ‘information overload’ stage, which is making my head spin 🤯

I have made some progress on my audiobook, but haven’t gotten any actual reading time in since the work week began. My audio (Educated) doesn’t fit any remaining tasks, so it will only count for pages. I think I’ll convert the hours when I finish my book so I don’t confuse myself with the math, lol. Sleep well, everyone & good morning to you in the Southern Hemisphere!

message 163: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 260 comments The Amber Spyglass just had a bit where two characters are told “Don’t you move. Stay here.” Would that count for acting out sit and stay 🤔?

message 164: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments I vote yes, Carmen 😝

message 165: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments me too!

message 166: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Not going to get more read tonight. I picked up Royal Assassin, 100 pages in. It's a long book, so I'll probably only contribute pages the next couple of days.

message 167: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 563 comments Great work, team! I see we're already 3 books into Puppy level! And I just added some converted audiohours to the pages read (and I included it in the audio tracking as well) and it tipped us over the 5000 pages for another wildcard! So we now have 9 up our sleeve.

I just finished my audiobook, but I don't think I can count it anywhere as it's by 2 authors, and there's no word or phrase which contain both authors' initials... :-(

message 168: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1337 comments So my reading is not going as well as normal. Read some pages last night and finished my book - Britt-Marie Was Here. Doesn't seem to fit into puppies though so I've just added the pages.

But my normal reading time is on the train to work. This morning I got a call from my daughter's teacher and spent the whole trip talking to him...and going home I'm with a friend as we have a show tonight.

Morning all. Looks like you've done well since I last looked yesterday evening.

Could you save "fluffy" for me (that should be a book title!) - I'm c.70% into Urn Burial, and should finish it this morning, but fluffy is the only prompt left in Puppy that it will fit!

After that, I'll take a look at The Snows of Kilimanjaro, as that's got a couple of options open still.

message 170: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 260 comments I’m not feeling really well today (the fact that I’m awake this early should already tell you) so I hope to be able to get some audio done today, as physical reading seems like it will be a one way trip to headaches, staring at nothing, and sleep.

I’ll start listening to The Sight, as it’s a middle grade book and doable in one day as it’s like 8-9hours on 1x speed and I listen to 1,5x (House of Hades even on 1,75x!). Wish me luck!

For now I’ll try to go and eat something and then maybe try to sleep some more.

Looking at the spreadsheet, do we want to use one of our Wild Cards for Snoopy, which no-one's got a book for at this point?

Also, it looks like t-rex and extinct may need Wild Cards once we get to the dinosaurs. I keep finding books with "exitinction", but that isn't allowed, as it's got to be exact.

Unless people think that someone being murdered renders them "extinct" for the acted out prompt.

message 174: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 260 comments I think a whole species needs to be murdered for that haha!

But yeah so far it looks like Snoopy will need a Wildcard. Unless someone wants to read some comics 😜

Also thanks guys 💜 I managed the food so at least that’s something!

message 175: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I am planning to read Dragonflight during the readathon. I read it in my teens, which is something like 30 years ago... And I remembered something about the dragons being endangered - so I checked google books and voila! It has the word extinct in the text!
So, I´ll shift over to that when we get closer to dinosaurs.

Your book is the only option for Fluffy so I don't think that is a problem :)

I'm trying to think of something easy and short to read for Snoopy, but haven't found anything . If I had bought that Snoopy book that I saw last year...

Edit: I'm browsing the other teams to look for options
Author: Yoko Ogawa, I loved The Housekeeper and the Professor I'm wondering where my copy is...

message 177: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments That´s cool if you can find something Lieke, but don´t fret over it - we have lots of wildcards.

message 178: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I know, but I like the search (I should be working now...) :)

Other authors I found that can work for snoopy:
Stephanie Perkins
Paul A. Offit
Pieter Steinz
Nalini Singh
Nicholas Sparks
Patrick Ness
Per Nilsson

Urn Burial is finished, so I've added that to the spreadsheet. Great Miss Marple cameo! And she's the one with "fluffy" crochet.

Yes, I loved that series. I hope it lives up to my memories.

Kathryn, for future reference, if a book has two authors, you can use either author's initials to fulfill the prompt.. it doesn't have to fit all of them.

For example, I just finished All the Ways We Said Goodbye, which has three authors, but I only used Karen White's initials to fill in "whiskers".

message 184: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 563 comments Oh my goodness - today wasn't much better in terms of time I could spend reading (except for a bit of listening) or on Goodreads! There's always something, isn't there?! And tomorrow I'm heading to the beach for a long weekend, so not sure how much time I'll have then either! But if it's pouring the whole weekend, as the forecast suggests, I may have plenty of time for reading and being more present on Goodreads!

I wouldn't stress about the Snoopy category, Lieke (or anyone else) unless there's a book that you'd like to read that fits, and the same for T-rex - we can easily use a wildcard for them.

We're about halfway through as far as time goes, and we're just over halfway through the 4 levels (4 books done on the 3rd level) - hopefully we'll get the magical 5th level revealed before the end of the read-a-thon, and maybe even complete it...!

I'm going to get a little bit of reading in now before I turn the light out.

Good night all!

Oh! Do you think so? I asked in the FAQ thread, and Laura said if it was a collaboration it should be all the authors' initials? So I read The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen which seems like a true collaboration - but if I could just use SP then I could slot it in for Snoopy, but there's nothing with GHSP...

There were actually TWO "fluffy"s - one when she was crocheting a baby's bootee, and this one, which made me chuckle.

"Taking Phryne firmly in tow, Mrs Reynolds conducted her to another rustic seat where an old woman was crocheting. Her fingers moved like bone shuttles, so easy and automatic was the movement. It was a small garment of some kind, perhaps for a baby. The lady was dressed in a tweed skirt, sensible shoes, and a pale-blue fluffy jumper. Her long white hair was coiled into a neat bun. She looked up, her face soft and undistinguished.

‘Miss Fisher?’ asked an old voice. ‘I’m Miss Mead, Miss Mary Mead. Delighted to meet you.'

Thanks, Emily! It was just today that I realised and asked about it.

I'm off to bed now - if it's decided that single authors can be used, if someone wants to enter in The Wife Between Us in for me, then we can cross off Snoopy (author - Sarah Pekkanen). If it needs to be all authors, no change is needed.

Must admit, the only Patrick Ness I've read was The Knife of Never Letting Go, and I didn't get on with it at all.

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments His writing style differs from book to book and he doesn't stick to certain genres (though his target groups are mainly children, young people and those of us who enjoy those books even if we're 44 ;) ) and I've found that people don't have the same favourites. Not to say you should read him if you don't feel like it.
