Read-A-Thon #1: Team Frosted Flakes

I just finished Amok and put it down for "Spider Web". Quick and interesting read.

And welcome to Erica - stay safe over there near the coronavirus epicentre!
I have just under 100 pages left on the book I'm reading - I'd like to say it will be finished when all the Europeans and Brits wake up, or at least by the end of my day...but I'm dragging my heels on this one, so no promises!
EDIT: The first of the team games is up, for anyone who hasn't noticed and is interested in playing along: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

As expected I didn't have time to read today, but I did manage to listen to two hours of audio (I put it in the spreadsheet).
To the folks east of europe where it's morning: Have a great day of reading!

Trish: Beatcha there!
I hope you don't mind I switched it around a bit, as my book can only count for 'ants' and The Count of Monte Cristo also counts for 'springtime'!

We are now at 5/10 for Insects, and tomorrow I'll be finishing Treasure Island for sure. For that only 'grasshoppers' is still open, but perhaps by the time I've finished it, someone else will have covered that :)
Perhaps it's time to decide which level we do next, when Insects is finished :) ?

We could do. Also what do people think - do we use our 4 wild cards now, once we've crossed off one more word/phrase, to finish this level now and move on, or do we want to keep them for potentially harder words in the next level? But as we keep going, we'll rack up more pages and audiohours anyway, so I guess we may as well use them, unless someone has a reason not to.
And looking at the next levels, it looks like we've got 5 books entered on the "dinosaur" tab and 6 on the "big cat" tab, but presumably any books on one tab can be transferred to another tab - provided there was somewhere for it to fit - and I can see some of them work when transferred, at least as far as author initials go...
Morning, fellow Frosties

Not a problem at all!

I finished Turning Darkness Into Light by Marie Brennan and added it to 4 Thorax.
It had the word in the text 😊
Now to decide what to read next....

I’ve nearly finished Burial Rites but I’m holding off on reading the last chapter because it doesn’t fit any of the remaining prompts for insects.
I’m about to go out and do some errands, so I’ll start a new audiobook whilst I’m out. Not quite sure which one yet ...

I don’t think we should use the wild cards yet. There are a few people who have written on the spreadsheet that they think they will finish their books today, and these fit for some of the prompts that are still open. We also won’t get the next wildcards for quite a few more pages than we’ve currently read - I think the next wildcard for pages read is after 2500 pages, whereas we got two of our wildcards for reading 1000 pages total.

And I say let's move on to large cats after that, since Hannah's book fit there and not in dinosaurs (at least as far as author name goes)

Good point - I hadn't noticed that either - for some reason I'd noticed the audiohours were even, and was assuming they were more evenly spaced for the pages as well!
Johanne wrote: "How late is it in Australia and China (do we have other timezones than those and european in our group?)...."
It's almost 9pm here in Brisbane and I think Adelaide (where Bec is) is 30 minutes behind us, and I think China (where Erica is) is an hour behind Brisbane (or is it ahead...? I vaguely remember from the Beijing Olympics). Not sure whether we've got anyone from any other time zones outside of Europe... But I will be heading to bed in an hour or so.
But yes, let's see how everyone's going later in the European day. Meanwhile, start thinking about
And I just finished a book that I realised the author name fitted for creepy crawling - I'd missed that initially!

Large cats sound good 😊

Which level to move onto was what I was about to mention in my last post where I just dropped off! I'm watching Dancing With The Stars at the same time, so that's my excuse!

Also agree we should wait with using wildcards for now 😊

Good day, team! Ditto what Carmen said, I think the wildcards might be more needed for the Puppy and Dinosaur level possibly.

Have a happy Sunday of reading!

This is true... But I'm hoping to finish both by the end of February, so it probably doesn't matter anyway. And obviously I'm still mucking around on Goodreads, so not reading or deciding which one to read!! Now I'm definitely going!!

Trish, I saw from the spreadsheet that you'd finished The Count of Monte Cristo. Please tell me you loved it!? ;)

I’m happy to read for big cats next. I read multiple books at the same time, so I can always pick up and put down books as needed.
Looking even further ahead to the level we do after big cats and the books I’ve currently got out from the library, I have a lot more options for dinosaur level than puppy.

I'm almost done with my first audiobook for the RAT - it doesn't fit for what's left in insects, so I transferred it to big cats.
My next audiobook also fits a few prompts there, so I added it as well.
I don't know why I've chosen to read books with long titles or by author with middle names - it's really hard to fit them for title/author initials hahaha
Edit: I just remembered middle names don't have to be included for the initials option.

@Erica, happy reading!

Going to read One of Us is Next (for cats could work for rescue or roar...)
Have also read 211 pages total so far.

I did. Great start. The middle was a bit slow as it was setup for the sting, but the payoff in the last third was very satisfying.
I'm good with Big Cats - there's a lot of prompts I can fit my current book to: Stone Cold Crazy, Shannon Hill.
I'm having more trouble with the next ones I want to read, so I may have to think hard, or just fill them out when I'm reading them:
Urn Burial, Kerry Greenwood
The Library of Lost and Found, Phaedra Patrick
Among the Departed, Vicki Delany

I just finished I, Robot, that fit the author initials for the last one we needed for insects (Isaac Asimov - many species).

Yay! Well done, Johanne! I’ll read my last chapters in the 2 books I’ve saved, and then update them on the Bigs Cats tab.

Also started House of Hades, which can count for 5, all untaken as of yet.
We're doing great!

Sounds like you have lots of options for your books, so don’t worry if you don’t finish it before you go to bed tonight!

Glad to hear you are far from Wuhan! But being stuck inside for a whole month with small kids, auch, I feel you!

Woho, well done!
As suspected, I didn't get in much reading today, but managed some audio on my bike tour home just now. Will update the spreadsheet.

I'll read a bit of Treasure Island in bed probably, and will make sure to update those too!

The Grapes of Wrath has ‘ants’ in the text, I came across it last night haha
