Read-A-Thon #1: Team Frosted Flakes
I managed 40 pages of The Amber Spyglass and over half of The Sight (audio). Waiting for the current chapter to end so I can enter the pages!
Forgot to say that I’ll finish The Sight tomorrow for sure!
Hooray - glad my book from yesterday counted for Snoopy - I’d hate to force you to read something you hadn’t planned for, Carmen!!I’m hoping to finish The Secret Runners of New York sometime today, but I think it only worked for one category, and I’m on my phone so can’t check the spreadsheet, but it’s getting quite good, so if it doesn’t fit anywhere in Puppy level, I probably won’t want to hold off until the next level if I do get time to read it!

I've just checked the spreadsheet for the book I'm reading (and likely to finish). It fits under many categories for authors initials for dinosaur. But I noticed t-rex is an issues....so I looked at my TBR and I have A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum - fits for t-rex. I'll try and get onto that one next!

I'm about forty pages from the end of The Snows of Kilimanjaro, and should finish it this morning. Could you save "animal shelter" for me, as that's the only one left that it fits - nothing's sprung out of the text for the others.
Unless, Ira, you're really close to the end of The Amber Spyglass? In which case I'll leave the last story in Kilimanjaro for when we're on dinosaurs, where it fits "roaming the land" or "munching on leaves".
After this, I think I'll go for Undercover Amish, by Ashley Emma, as it'll fit one of the remaining Puppys, and there are a lot of dinosaur prompts it'll fit, as well. AE are very handy author initials!

Goodmorning all,I read half of A Court of Thorns and Roses yesterday and around 100 pages this morning, so I think I will be able to finish it today. That will probably be my last complete book for the read-a-thon since I'm going away for the weekend

My book only fits animal shelter (at puppy level) but I won't be able to finish it for a while since I just started my workday. It does work for two of the dinosaur prompts so I could try to wait with finishing it if we haven't finished puppy level tonight :)

I doubt I’ll even manage to finish it this week 😭 struggling with it so much, dammit penguin for taking away all the audiobooks from Storytel and Scribd!I’ll finish The Sight today and then move to the audio of Siege and Storm, even if it doesn’t seem to be fitting for anything in Dinosaur 😂 I’ll take another look at my TBR. I have another audio but don’t know the author from the top of my head. Fingers crossed that’ll fit more!

I've just finished The Secret Runners of New York by Matthew Reilly, and "animal shelter" is all it fits for as well.
We normally operate on a first in, best dressed policy, Trish, since it doesn't really matter one way or the other - one of the books won't count for anything, which is fine.
Unless you want to hold off on finishing it - we could use my Matthew Reilly for animal shelter, and possibly a wild card for sit and stay, since no one's reading anything that would work for that, other than Carmen who's struggling with her book for that! That would just leave one phrase in this level (lick your face - is anyone reading something that works for that currently?) and then you could use your Kilimanjaro book for the dinosaur level...?

I'll have to check my book for sit and stay, she is told to stay in her room but I don't think they mentioned sit in it....
In The Sight the kittens and apprentices are very often told to stay put so if need be I can always use it for that prompt

The next book I'm planning to read is by Tricia Stringer, so would work for author initials for sit and stay, but it's almost 500 pages, so it wouldn't be a quick read!
Probably will be better to use a wild card if we get stuck on that prompt.

Although if any of them say that being told to stay put works, I'm happy to roll with it!
I see Team Cocoa Pebbles (so funny to type that - we call them Cocoa Pops here in Australia!) is just ahead of us and up to starting their fourth level.If we used 2 wild cards for "sit and stay" and "lick your face", we'd have caught up to them... What do people think? Should we use two wildcards to get to dinosaur level, or hold off?
I'll put my Matthew Reilly in for "animal shelter" anyway.
Edited to add - there's also dog breed that needs to be crossed off as well - is anyone working on that currently? Perhaps we can't catch up to Team Cocoa Pebbles just at the moment...!

I am finishing The Sight for lick your face today (the cats give each other licks all the time, including their faces), only 3 hours left. Sadly have an appointment first, so if you don’t want to wait I understand! The Sight doesn’t work for any Dinosaur levels sadly. Appointment is delayed due to a crisis so while it was supposed to start 20 minutes ago we’re still waiting.
Oh - and I've just realised we still have dog breed to go - I was getting ahead of myself!

And if anyone else finishes something for lick your face first, then that's fine, but otherwise you shouldn't be too far away if no one else is working on it. We can just leave the dog breed one open, I guess, until whenever lick your face gets finished and then we can add a wild card for dog breed (unless someone else finishes it in the meantime) and THEN we're onto dinosaur level!!It sounds like this will all happen while I'm asleep!!

Unfortunately, I finished it before I saw your message. So, I've asked the mods if I can use it once we get to the next level. I can't remember from last time.
I do have something for "lick your face", although I'm not sure I'll finish it today. So if people want to use wild cards to clear up Puppy, I'll use my one in dinosaurs.

I'm finishing my book for lick your face today for sure, so either way, that one's covered!And ughh it's always such a shame when messages and books go right past each other, creating situations such as this. Having a group chat would cause these things to happen a lot less!

I agree that having fun is the most important thing, but after that I guess it's a matter of priorities - I'd like to get as far as we possibly can before the end of the weekend, and if that means using wildcards, then I'm all for it!! :-P
I agree it doesn't matter about the other teams - I just noticed that Cocoa Pebbles was ahead of us when I clicked on a mod's link in another thread to demonstrate how to denote the wildcards. Although there's also nothing wrong with a bit of friendly competition, for anyone who is spurred on by that!
But I'd be very interested to see what the 5th level is - even if we couldn't finish it!!

You can put yours in if you'd rather, but in the grand scheme of things it still boils down to one book can't be used, and that's just the way it goes. We need (and want!) to read books, but in the meantime, things can happen on GR while we're reading! But I'm fine with you switching them if you want to.

I agree let´s use some wildcards for the books that are not in finished-soon or won´t-work-for-dinosaurs. Let´s give it some hours more, see what the rest of the group is saying and then go for Carmen´s and Kathryn´s plan. I´ll start Dragonflight tonight that works for dinosaur. I´m a bit spurred by competition, but also I really want to get to the secret level!

I have 1,5 h left of Fahrenheit 451, which will work for dog breed (author) I'll finish it tonight (in the next 4h)
But if you want to use a wild card for the prompt, I have noticed against it - I'll wait for the next category

Not much reading going on today. Work is really busy and I´m working again from home this evening... Have some deadlines, like yesterday. I should be able to read more from tomorrow/friday.
