Read-A-Thon #1: Team Frosted Flakes

Happy reading, and sleep well, for those heading to bed soon!!

Also welcome! Glad to have you 💜
Alhough I would personally love it if we keep logging audio hours in a different color (to show from when they were no longer needed, and that of those hours the pages were logged) just to see how much we’ll have listened to in total!

Okay thanks. I'm not sure how to work out pages read for audio.

For the audiobook I’ve been listening to today, I’m planning on not logging any “pages” for it until I’ve finished it, probably by tomorrow. When I’ve finished the book, I’m going to just log the number of pages in the UK paperback version in one go, and only break them down by date on my personal progress page. I think that’s probably easiest for me, so I don’t accidentally log some pages twice.

Much too late for me now. Goodnight!
Typically, for audio, I take the default page count (the page count listed when you search for the book on Goodreads) and just use my percentage read to determine how many pages it is. So if a book is 300 pages and I read 10% of it in one day, that would be 30 pages read. But that's my personal preference... all of the suggested methods would be applicable for the challenge.

I've just added a line to the audio section of the tracking tab of the spreadsheet. So below that line is what we've listened to since we maxed out the audiohour wildcard limit. HOWEVER, this will not be counted automatically in our pages tracking - this section is now just for interest.
If you listen to an audiobook now, to include it in the tracking that will count toward more wildcards, it also needs to be included in the section above that, which is tracking pages.
Hannah, Johanne and Emily all have good ways of working out how many "pages" of an audiobook they have read, so you can use any of those methods.

And no dramas, if you still can't work it out - if you post here in the thread how many minutes you listened to and how many minutes the entire book is, and how many pages the book is in an ordinary format, someone will be able to help you work it out.
:-D
Morning.
I'm well impressed with you audio "readers" - I can't do audio. I lose track of what's going on.
Should finish Stone Cold Crazy today, and then I'll see if I can fit any of my other short-term reads in.

Some audiobooks I find difficult to concentrate on too, Trish - it depends on the book and on the narrator. It also depends on what I’m doing while listening - walking is generally good, sometimes driving (depending on where I’m going). Sometimes I listen while cooking, but that’s not always successful - for either the cooking or the book! And then sometimes I just think I’d rather read a certain book than listen to it because I want to curl up and devour it!

Oh no, Bec! Looks like a long night ahead for you, then! Hope your book lasts you out. Sometimes hospitals aren’t necessarily a place where I get lots of reading done anyway as there can be too many distractions! Hope your son isn’t in too much pain while waiting!

Hope your son's alright, Bec.
Audios- Some books and narrators work better than others. And I can only do a limited amount of things
simultaneously- anything with movement from a to b where i know the way - riding bike, walking etc. And jigsaw puzzling. And VERY simple housework like folding clothes and sometimes I can't even do that without either losing track of what I am doing or the story.
I'm off work today, but what to read? I have several going so it's a matter of choice.

Hope your son's alright, Bec.

Decisions, decisions, Johanne!! Hope whatever you read is fantastic!
I decided on The Secret Runners of New York last night - which doesn't fit any of the Big Cat categories, unless I come across one of the words/phrases in the text - and it's a little strange, but quite good...
So that I can keep an eye out for the words/phrases, my current bookmark is a piece of notepaper with the Big Cat categories written on it!

Excellent, Ira! I've updated the spreadsheet to cross off "fastest mammal" for it.

And I'm off to bed! Keep up the good work! Good night, all!
Just finished Stone Cold Crazy. I've put it in for kittens, as there's a kitten scene in it, and that's one of the ones we only had a couple of options for.
Just realised that Animal Farm works for the Lion King, which is another one we're short of, as well as pride and roar, so I'll read that next...

I'm focusing on finishing Treasure Island today (works for 1, 2 & 6) and House of Hades, of which I've listened 25% already (works for 1, 2, 6 & 9). I'll try to not sleep all day tomorrow haha!
Okay, so after a quick couple of hours, Animal Farm, George Orwell is done. Its short, but thought provoking, and I was far too young when I first read it, in my late-teens, too appreciate it.
I've put it in for "The Lion King" as the only other book which had marked - Carmen's The Sight by Erin Hunter - had other options as well. Hope that's okay, Carmen?
When we finish Big Cats, can I put in a preference for Puppy next? The next two books I plan to read have text matches there, but not to the dinosaur ones, and neither the covers nor the initials work.
Urn Burial, Kerry Greenwood
The Library of Lost and Found, Phaedra Patrick

Oh yes go for it! I haven't started The Sight yet anyways :) . (I put it in because it's about cats and fits a lot haha!)

Oh no! I hope he’s alright, Bec.

It looks like we will some be finished with Big Cats, so we should maybe think about choosing our next category. I’ve got books that work for both, so I’m happy to go with either category.

I didn't manage to read a lot today, but will calculate/turn my hours into pages and will add them to the spreadsheet in the next hour. Sadly I won't be able to finish any books tonight, tomorrow I'll have more time and will finish them.

Didn´t read much today considering I had the day off... But different stuff took up some time. I had to do some things to prepare a meeting with the bank on thursday (I mean how adult can it get, right? If someone would take over those responsibilities so I could jut read!) And then my 16-year old has a crisis, and he was ready to talk today, so you just grab that chance when your teenager is in the mood to open up.
I did reach my meditative state with an audiobook, doing a superhero-themed jigzaw puzzle and folding clothes for a couple of hours, after all the audio talk I chose to listen to Year of the Monkey by Patti Smith, narrated by herself - which is great.
I also read a chapter in The Hobbit for my youngest son.
I put it all in the spreadsheet. I converted the audio, but also put the hours ( we talked about it would be cool to see and it doesn´t count for any more wildcards, was that correctly interpreted?)
I may be able to read a bit more before bedtime, but I´ll register that tomorrow.
Tomorrow I should be able to finish Year of the Monkey. It fits "roar" (in the text) and "Tigers and panthers" (author initials), but if anyone else finishes anything else first, it also fit several in both Puppies and Dinosaurs, so I´m cool with whatever.

And shall we look at Puppy level once we're done with Big Cats?
Unfortunately I have another busy day which means not much time to check Goodreads, but more importantly, not much time to read! I'm hoping things will slow down after today, though!
Johanne wrote: "I converted the audio, but also put the hours ( we talked about it would be cool to see and it doesn´t count for any more wildcards, was that correctly interpreted?)..."
Yes, that's right, Johanne!

And shall we look at Puppy level once we're done with Big Cats? ..."
Don´t we have three left?
And puppies are good.

Have also listened to 1h40 of House of Hades so far, and will listen some more after feeding the bunnies. I probably won't finish this before Big Cats is filled up, but I'm sure it'll work for the other levels as well!

He had surgery last night and was in so much pain.
Hopefully I can get more read tonight!

You might be too tired tonight and need an ultra-early night, Bec!!

Goodness - you must be up late, Carmen!! Aren't you in Europe?!

I put down my audio (5h15/204 pages to be added!) and will see if I can read a bit before sleeps. Perhaps a chapter of the ebook I should finish before the month is out 😂

Morning all.
Bec and Johanne, I hope everything is okay with your kids! It must be stressful, and they're the important thing.

Just one more to go - "roar" and then we can move to puppy level...
I'm afraid I've read nothing today so far! May get a chapter or two in now, but it won't be much and it won't finish a book!!
Maybe I'll get a bit more reading time tomorrow. 🤞

But I won't finish my book for another 5 hours, have to work now... :(
Luckily it can also work for one of the Puppy level prompts :)
Carmen wrote: "If no one ticks it off before me, in a few hours I can tick off Roar!"
Go for it!
I've started Urn Burial, but it isn't going to work for roar, so I'll probably pause just before the end, until we're officially Puppy-ing!

I've 20 minutes audio left for 'roar' but it also fits puppies.

I asked the mods if we can convert the future hours to pages from here on.
