Finished! Wow, there were so many twists you didn't see coming in that last part!! Really interesting, even Shallan's part lol.

(view spoiler)[ The Parshendi being voidbringers?! I had thought that it would be something more insidious... But I think there's more to it than simply Alethi against Parshendi as the two sides- as seen by Kaladin they are honourable in the way that they fight, cultured and intelligent- how can they be the great evil to fight against, it just doesn't make sense... What if there was a reason for the Knights Radiant's so called betrayal? What if they had discovered something about the Parshendi.. I can't help thinking what were the Heralds fighting against?? Cos, I don't think it was the Parshendi somehow lol (and if the Parshendi believe in the Heralds- as indicated by the knife earlier- then maybe they're both fighting for the same thing... So many questions! I can't wait for this larger story to unfold!

Taravangian being the one to control Szeth, now I really didn't see that coming!! Though it seems like he's a monster for that and for the dying people in the hospital, I feel he's doing it for a greater purpose because obviously those things people say before they die are prophetic. Though, why he wants Dalinar dead I don't know..

And Dalinar's vision; he's been hearing and seeing visions from their God all this time.. I thought it was that last herald, but obviously not if he showed up at the very end..

Shallan's got a tad more interesting seeing as she can soulcast and made all those connections. I'm surprised Jasnah didn't actually punish her further. They're both going to the Shattered Plains now, that should be interesting. And who would have thought that the weird cloaked creatures were spren?! All the rest of the types of spren have been so innocuous that it didn't occur to me that any would appear like that. And if Elhokar can see them, does that mean he has the ability to soulcast too? Ooohh.

Dalinar giving Kaladin command of the 1000 bridgemen! Yes! I think there's gonna be a bit of beef between Kaladin and Adolin considering the latter didn't like the way the former spoke to him and they're so similar in age and both leaders in their own rights. Really excited about Bridge 4 being Dalinar's personal bodyguard though! A very clever way of keeping the two characters close.

I loved the part in that Chapter where Bridge 4 were so excited about Kaladin's powers and how they wanted to help him find out more about them, that's how he should have felt about it not fearful of being outcast. And loved when Lopen thought the chicks would dig him glowing lmao. Very funny.

Great ending, I can't wait to continue this! I can see why it's touted as one of the best epic fantasy books, because it undoubtedly is, it'll be amazing when the whole series is done. *fingers crossed Sanderson keeps writing at the same level*. (hide spoiler)]

and yes, I love the relationship Kaladin and his fellow bridgemen have and I can't wait to see how everyone will adapt to their new life. I'm a bit worried about Moash, he seemed really intent on the money back in the chasms and about wanting to kill someone.

Finished part three and the interludes
(view spoiler)[ I agree with you all that shallan chapters were a bit jarring when kaladin was fighting for survival. Though in the end the chapter when she uses the soulcaster was amazing and I was a little disappointed that we went back to kaladin. What is that whisper? The same as the whisper form dalinars visions? And, I also think she is a sharbearer because when they were attracted by the thugs she said she had a weapon but she didn't remembered it. Jasnah also are the bread which was poisoned so I guess we will find how she survived.

Kaladin chapter amazing as always. Seeing his realization that they were expendable and teaching them to fight. I liked that we get to see adolin, and I hope that they interact in this book. He also has visions during the storm like dalinar though different .

The interludes were okay but szeths was the best. He is a killing machine for sure. What a sad way to live. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ amazing. Sanderson really knows how to make big surprises. When i first read that szeths was to kill taravagian I didn't want him, he seemed so nice. But no, he wants to save everyone by killing people for their profecies. Which are super strange.

Great battle. Seeing kaladin struggles with helping or not a lighteyes, the revelation of syl, adolin forgiving his father, kaladin using stormlight and how intelligent the parsendi are, the parsendi sharbearer who didn't kill dalinar and talking as if he too was having visions or something. And of course the reveal that they were the voidbringers! I wasn't expecting that. Though dalinars last vision (poor dalinar knowing that his god died) , I guess they are not evil and the one who they have to stop is clearly odium.

And now szeth, shallan and jasnah are going to the shattered plains. It's going to be great, all of them meeting, though it would be great if kaladin fought sezth and won(but not kill him, I really want to be rid of taravagian)

I don't know how you restrained yourselves from reading the second one. If I liked this one the second one, with all of them meeting, is going to be epic.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry! I started pretty late with my re-read of The way of kings, then I was trying to catch up, but you were so fast and wrote so many comments!
I hade a few very busy weeks (somehow everyone in my group of friends is getting pregnant and I was crocheting presents like crazy) and I always opened the thread saw all those looong comments and wanted to come back when I had enough time to really appreciate them... And that was well... Now 😅

As Iain already said, it's kinda hard to discuss the book when you already know what will happen next, oh and there's so much that's going to happen, so you're definitely in for a hell of a ride! And sadly I'm not even such a Cosmere expert that I could have delivered all those great details. 😂

But now I finally went through all your comments and it was so cool to real your thoughts, sorry again that I wasn't more active, but it seems like I'm right in time to start book 2 with you and do better 😅

Hoid also reminded me of The Fool, not only because of their wittiness, but also how they know... things :D Maybe that's also why I like Hoid so much, even without him having much screentime, because I love Fool so much! :)

Talking about favourite characters, here are my top 5 (very smooth transition, yeah!)

1. Dalinar - Hands down, he's amazing!
2. Lopen
3. Adolin and Renarin (I'm sooo excited for Renarin's flashbacks in book 7, wasn't it?)
4. Jasnah
5. Hoid

And of course Syl and some of the other Spren we meet later :)

Just curious @Sir Anni are you American and therefore reading an American copy of the book. When you speak of 'The Fool' are you talking about Elhokar's 'right hand man' who ridicules everybody at parties. I only ask as he is known as Wit in English books and was just curious.

Her parts weren't bad at all, but I think Kaladin's were way more interesting. I'm looking forward what you think of her further development, I was sometimes really annoyed by her, but I think it could have been a great build-up for her person, so I'm so excited to see her in Rhythm of war.

Ah sorry, I was referring to comments Beena and Lucija made. The Fool is a character from Robin Hoob's book series "Realms of the Elderlings".
I was comparing him to Hoid (Wit).

And no, I'm not american, I'm from Germany :) But I switched between UK and US paperbacks reading the series the first time around, I don't think there were any changes regarding the names

Yeah agree, her parts were definitely still readable, there wasn't a point that I didn't want to read just cos it switched back to her, but I found it hard to care about her plot line much lol. Sounds interesting, like her character will grow more hopefully.

I get what you're saying. I definitely think some part of my love for Kaladin comes from him having an interesting story (especially compared to Shallan's). And I love his interactions with Bridge 4 and how they all work together. Can't wait to see more of them.

We also got his backstory in Way of Kings, maybe you'll like Shallan more when we now focus on her backstory :)
