Works for 6 or 9 Blue. So can be moved to another Blue card if no one can find a 9 Blue.

Sharon (sherbear89) Hi everyone! I’m Sharon and I’m based in the US, California more specifically. This is my first time playing the challenge. I had a bit of trouble finding the group thread but I’m here now. I’ll look into February reads shortly. Excited to start and thrilled to be apart of the team.

I see blue for your first book.

Anyone else? hahaha

Oooh yes, The Help and Perks are fabulous books. Also loved both movies. And Perks has an amaaaazing soundtrack!

message 59: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I'd say blue for the 1st one too. If you want to read it, go for it - characters with a reasonable roll beginning with S or N are reasonably common in most books.

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Haven't read Perks yet. Will add it to my tbr! Oh the danger of team challenges for that shelf.

My recs are:
Rivers of London especially the audio
Shantaram
Sleepyhead
Just One Damned Thing After Another another great audio

Edit:
Also Governess to the Sheikh which was dedicated to me and my husband for our wedding!

Honestly it's so good and a quick read (not length, but just.. quick haha)

:D

message 65: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Well, to be fair, Perks isn't exactly a long book either ;-)

message 66: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sherbear89) So I can do the following:

Green 1(O)- One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Green cover and One in title)

Blue 9(N)- A Time to Die by Nadine Brandes( Blue cover and authors name begins with N)

Red 2(T)- Cursed by Thomas Wheeler (Red cover and author’s name begins with T)

What does everyone think?

message 67: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ok, so favourites.... that's always a hard one, especially because I read a lot of series.

The Night Circus was one of the most enchanting books I have ever read.
Can You Keep a Secret? is a total guilty pleasure.
Anything by Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels is awesome) but I think I love Hidden Legacy even more - first book being Burn for Me.
Nalini Sing's Psy-Changeling series is one of my fantasy loves as well - the first book is Slave to Sensation.
I absolutely love the Dresden Files (I want to hug Harry sometimes for all the crap Jim Butcher makes him go through.) The first book is Storm Front.

An honourable mention goes to Ready Player One because I had a lot of fun reading that one!

message 68: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Sharon, any way you could add links to those books please?

It's hard to decide whether the covers work if we can't see them :-)

Thanks!

I'm slowly working my way through Ilona Andrews - run into the problem that they aren't on audible and my library hasn't got them. Trying to restrict how many books I pay for at the moment.

Dresden files is good - have got up to date with them and find the wait between books tricky as he seems to have a master plan now.

Night Circus is being pushed up my tbr after a lot of people have recommended it.

My favorites are Count of Monte Cristo [bookcover:The Count of Monte Cristo|7126]and The Princess BrideThe Princess Bride. I also enjoyed The Five People You Meet in Heaven and Love, Rosie

message 77: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Hopefully you'll be enjoying them as well as managing!

I really don't want reading for this to turn into work for any of you (and if it is starting too, please send E or I a message - neither of us bite!) - Right I need to stop being protective of you all and indulging my inner mother hen, time for me to sign off for the night and sleep for as long as Joe (the toddler) allows.

message 78: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments The Count of Monte Cristo is intense! I enjoyed it but certainly took concentration to read.

message 79: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Also I've update which colour covers we've got so far. If everyone reads the books they've suggested, we've got one Wild 4 left. Which means we need to duplicate any one of the colour cards. Fantastic work everyone in searching these out.

message 80: by Eldarwen (new)

Soooo many plot twists!!
I still haven't read the entire thing but I've seen the French film adaptation, which is actually 4 full films and so so well done. Very close to the book, too.

Just in addition to this: -> Any one of the colour cards that hasn't been duplicated already. If you take a look at Sophie's update, you'll see that some cards already have two titles next to them. Those cannot be duplicated again.

Each colour card can only be duplicated once.

message 83: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Thanks for catching that!

I've got Splintered (Splintered, #1) by A.G. Howard on my reading plan for the next few weeks. I think it's green enough but would appreciate a second opinion. Would cover our last Wild 4.

message 84: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Green enough, I'd say.

But why that look? Her face on the small pic, at first sight, is a liiiittle bit scary o.O haha

message 85: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments It's an Alice in Wonderland retelling - I'm expecting all sorts of weirdness to match the cover

message 86: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Indeed!
I'll be curious to see how the cat is interpreted :-)

Komal (komalm) | 163 comments Hey,
thought to reconnect with fellow members of my team.

Here is my UNO-2020 shelf.

Few of the gems that I came across recently:

Educated by Tara Westover Educated I cannot recommend this any lesser. This is my best read of 2019

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw Wicked Deep >70% Blue

NAKED by Papa CJ Naked A quick read : auto-biography of an Indian Stand-up Comedian, spent good struggling years in the UK.

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones An American Marriage >70% Blue

Truly Devious (Truly Devious, #1) by Maureen Johnson Truly Devious >70% Blue
The Vanishing Stair (Truly Devious, #2) by Maureen Johnson The Vanishing Stair >70% Red

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Komal (komalm) | 163 comments I use Tineye to extract cover colors.

message 89: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments I keep coming across Evelyn Hugo. So many people seem to be reading it for the past year. What did you think of it?

I'm a little scared to pick it up in the meantime because there seems to be quite a hype around it and those books, no matter how interesting sounding, usually fall short for me.

message 90: by Ravenclaw Library Books (last edited Jan 25, 2020 01:09PM) (new)

Ravenclaw Library Books (ravenclawlibrarybooks) | 234 comments Green 1 (O) I could read either
Play Dead (Elise Sandburg, #1) by Anne Frasier or
Little Witches Magic in Concord by Leigh Dragoon or
The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan

message 91: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Thanks for the suggestions Komal!

I really enjoyed Evelyn Hugo when I read it a couple of months ago and I'm pretty cautious about anything that gets a large amount of hype. So no promises E but might be worth a look.

message 92: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Fantastic Raven (are you happy to be shortened to Raven?) I'll pop it on the list

Thats fine. I don't mind being called Raven.

message 94: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Hope everyone has had a good weekend and is feeling rested ready for the challenge to start next weekend.

We've spent the day with my Dad, leading to a v happy toddler running round. Just trying to get everything sorted for the week ahead now

message 95: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments I had lunch with my parents, grand-mother and a friend and her mother. Was a fun round though we ate far too much. I'm in a bit of a food coma at the moment haha. Raclette tends to do that ;-)

I'm trying to finish The Wind in the Willows, a book I started over a year ago, if not two. It never really gripped me though I apparently enjoyed he movie version I've seen when I was a child? But I don't want to leave it unfinished, so I'll attempt to finish it until Uno starts.

To change things up, I'm also reading The Power, which I'm not entirely convinced by yet but the premise is not a bad one.

message 96: by Eldarwen (new)

I was just inserting the rest of the colour cards on the spreadsheet and realised that the Green 1 doesn't need to be duplicated as we have a Draw 2 card in that hand, meaning we can read one book to cover both the Green 1 and the Wild Draw 4 in that same hand.

So, if you don't mind, please hold off on those lovely green covers until next month, where I'm sure we'll be able to use them! :-)

message 97: by Jessica (last edited Jan 26, 2020 09:44AM) (new)

Jessica Eck Hi, I'm so sorry I'm so late to check in! I had trouble with my laptop and couldn't get into the group chats with the app. I borrowed another laptop now, so it should be fine from now on :)

I'd like to start with this one for Red:

The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen

Is it red enough? If not, I'll choose another! This is my first time playing UNO, so please tell me if I'm doing something wrong!

And here's the link to my UNO shelf:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 98: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Welcome aboard Jessica! I understand the problems with the app so say no more! Glad you've found us now.

We've managed to cover all the cover colour books for this month. Please keep hold of it for when we get next month's cards though.

What this means for those of you that haven't played before is we are now looking to fill the number/skip/reverse cards. In the rules you'll find the requirements for these. The covers can be any colour or combination of colours you like. I'll try to do a run down of the different things we're looking for later. If you've got a blue, green, red or yellow cover please keep hold of it for now!

Kate (kaaate) | 78 comments Hi All! Hope you've all had a good weekend! Today I had a trip to the largest second hand book shop in Britian, Barter Books! It was renovated from a victorian railway station in Alnwick! I picked up these titles (which hopefully I can use for the challenge at some point!) :

Elizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey
Room by Emma Donoghue
My Sister's Bones by Nuala Ellwood
After the Snow by Susannah Constantine

How was everyones weekend? :)

message 100: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I love Barter Books! Planning a trip to see my mother-in-law in Newcastle partly so I have an excuse to go in. Think Joe would love the model railway going round the ceiling.

Looks like you've picked up a good selection there.
