I updated the challenges section of the group, but for some reason, it's still showing 2020 instead of 2021. If you click on Group Challenges, it will come up, but I'm going to play with it some more to see how to get it to display properly (this is the first year I've had to update it!)
EDIT: I've figured it out. You should be able to see it on the homepage for the group now.

I see you posted detailed instructions for how to set up our yearly challenge so that it shows on our page. That is really helpful, as I had to muddle through it when I did it for a short-term challenge in another group. But it's optional, right? I am already tracking my progress on my thread and in the spreadsheet. I can see that it would be a quick way for people to see their progress, but to me it just seems like one more thing to update.

I would recommend either bookmarking your plan or saving the link on the Community Spreadsheet (if you use it). I personally keep my plan linked on my column of the spreadsheet so I can access it easily. If you don't use the spreadsheet, bookmarking on your browser is easy, assuming you use your browser and not the app.

"How to: Create a dedicated shelf in your profile, copy-paste its name (not the url) in the "challenge box" and add your books to this shelf!"
I did that - it's called: 2021-book-a-week-challenge. I've put that in and saved it multiple times but it's not updating with the books that I've read from that shelf (1 read, 3 on it total). What am I doing wrong?? Thanks! :)
Jill, my only suggestion is to make sure that you have read dates put in for all of the books on the shelf that you've read (sometimes when you change books from Currently Reading to Read, it doesn't add a completion date). If there's no completion date, it won't register that you've read the book within the challenge deadline.
If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else it could be.

That's strange. You're in the plans folder and clicking New Topic?
It shouldn't be requiring you to do anything that you haven't had to do to post in this thread, but I know Goodreads gets a bit glitchy so it could just be Goodreads acting up.

That's so strange... I'm able to post a new topic without issue. Would you like me to start a topic plan for you, and you can just comment on it? Since it seems like you are able to comment, just not create a new thread?

That would be fantastic. Tsipi's 2021 ATY. Thanks!!

A month or so ago, I kept getting "captcha" codes that I had to click to prove I was not a robot before I could add a thread. But it was just on one day.

I tried to find it yesterday but had to look everywhere for it and now forgotten where I found it
Found it here way back in 2018

Hm that's so strange that it wasn't in the group description anymore. Here's the link to the new one:

I've added it back to the group homepage. You can also find it in the first post on this thread.

I think the spirit of the prompt intends that the time difference between the author’s first book and most recently published book is 21 years (or, I suppose, if you know the author is working on a new book right now, their career is still ongoing, so it would count 21 years from their first book’s publication until today). The author does not need to be dead to qualify.

Jill, I would just remove it, and hopefully they catch their mistake. There's no way of tracking who wrote it since most people appear as "anonymous" when they are contributing.
EDIT: It looks like it was Lindsey K's submission... I checked her column and she used the same formatting and had the same book recorded for that number, so I went ahead and moved it over.

Thank You. I didn't know if I could remove it, and I didn't want to upset anyone by them losing it.
Hi Emma! I'm not sure what genre bingo is... we don't have a challenge called that in this group. We did do a bingo game during our last Read-a-Thon, but it wasn't tied to genres.

This is my third year doing ATY (or at first a similar weekly challenge in Finnish) and I really like how this inspires me to explore new authors and genres. However, I would not like to have all of the ATY books to have an effect on my Goodreads recommendations. Is there any way to prevent it?
Thanks,
Maria
PS. If someone is interested in a totally nerdy Google sheets template with weekly checkboxes, total pages read count + some pie graphs showing fact/fiction, male/female writer and continents of origin, I can share 🙂

In my case, I have a number of genres and shelves, such as Mysteries, Historical Fiction, TBR, etc. GR gives me recommendations for each one separately. If you put all the ATY books under a shelf/genre such as ATY, you will get recommendations based on that as one of the categories, which you can ignore if you want. But I think it shouldn't affect your other genres.

Duh! Somehow I had it in my head that the Spring challenge was for Feb-April. I literally spent most of April 30 finishing off the last book for the challenge. So, since, in my head, the challenge was over, it was time to start the Summer Challenge. Thanks for straightening me out... and for all you do for the ATY folks.

Viemag could you explain? I'm looking at the spreadsheet now and it looks fine. Did something get deleted? I checked through the version history and it doesn't look like you actually did anything.
AHHHH sorry I was supposed to post it yesterday and it completely got away from me. It's going up now!

Okie!! Thank you so much

Hm. It seems to be working for me, but I played around with it a little bit. Let me know if that helped!
