Awesome, I was just looking for a printable.

It will be under Reading Discussions, where we will have a separate thread for each month instead of one per quarter. Probably an individual thread for each question. So glad people are excited about it! I have a lot of ideas I have "stolen" from other groups, but if you have an idea for a question, please feel free to message me anytime through GR. Questions will be posted on Sundays or Mondays. Of course, threads stay there so if you are interested in a previous question, you can still go in and answer it later.

It's up to you. I include it in mine. If you feel like you can definitely read more, you could do another book in that prompt, or maybe another short story.
Holly, Ana is correct, it's totally up to you if you want to include short stories in your challenge. We don't allow them for seasonal challenges or read-a-thons, but for the main challenge, it's up to you.
Vicki, you would go to the 2023 (M-Z) tab, then scroll all the way to the end where the last person put theirs, then you would type your name at the top of a column and add your books read under your name.

Hey Judy, I have unhidden the tab for you to go update your column if you'd like! I will hide it again tomorrow.

The spreadsheet won't feed into anything on Goodreads. Do you mean the challenge tracker on the group homepage? You will need to create a shelf on Goodreads for the challenge and then enter the name of that shelf into the challenge. If you are using a desktop browser, go to "My Books" and on the left hand side, below all your shelf names, will be a button to add a shelf.
When you add books to that shelf with a finished reading date this year, the tracker will pick up those books and only those books.
Your plan is here:

If you can view the image below, it is the example of my challenge. I have a shelf called aty-2023 so that is what it counts:

Don't feel bad for any lack of tech skills, Vicki. Lots of things on GR aren't intuitive. It took me a while to even figure out how to link a book and much longer to understand how to write spoilers, etc.
It's totally up to you if you want your total to show up in the way that Ellie has demonstrated above. You also don't have to use the spreadsheet, it's just one tool. Someone can write down their books on paper if they prefer, or their own spreadsheet on their computer. Or you can just use the ATY thread for 2023 plans and check off books as you read them. I mostly use that thread, periodically I update the spreadsheet, and I never use the challenge option on the group page, it just seems like duplicate work. Whatever method works for you is fine. The mods do check the spreadsheet during the year to see what our progress is but that is just overall percentage, like the average in April is 33% done.

Thank you for that help, Ellie. Yes Vicki, the Community Spreadsheet is just one tool you can use to track your reading, but it is separate from Goodreads and will not carrying anything over between your input on the spreadsheet and your challenge on the group.
It looks like you started a plan on this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I've added this link to your column on the spreadsheet!
Feel free to add to the spreadsheet or to your plan or the challenge like Ellie showed you... or none at all! As Robin mentioned, it's totally up to you how you choose to track your challenge.

Thanks in advance!

For the read a thon, there is usually an individual challenge with a bunch of easy prompts (new release, red cover, reread, fav genre etc.) and then there is a list of prompts for each team to try and complete with some being harder than others. You don't have to read something special, but depending on how competitive you are and what your team is reading, you might want to read something specific. But it's still more of a read what you want and then fit it to prompts after.
One other thing is, if you pick out a bunch of shorter books to read, it helps you check off prompts for your team (once again, it depends on how competitive you are 😁)
The team challenge also counts pages read and audio listened, so even if you're not reading books that fill the prompts, you can still contribute to your team. Quick note that only books that are 100+ pages will count for the Read-a-Thon team challenge.
The prompts for the team challenge will likely be posted on Thursday or Friday along with the team assignments. If you're not interested in participating on the team challenge, we will have an individual challenge as well as some fun games throughout the week.

I always go to the very first post of this thread and click where it says "snag a spot on our Community Spreadsheet". I did notice the first tab says 2022 but the other tabs are for 2023.
Here is the link:

A year or so ago, in an effort to block spam, GR made it really hard to post outside links, even to Google docs, spreadsheets, etc., but that seems to have been lifted a while ago.

Oh, I see. I'm afraid it might be too late. This was in the November newsletter
*Please note** The 2023 Planning Tab on the 2022 Community spreadsheet will be deleted at the end of the month, so everyone should move their plans over to the planning threads before we delete the spreadsheet tab.
Emily, can you confirm that is how it works? It sounds like members need to either copy the info to a personal spreadsheet or put the list into the planning folder.
Really sorry for this inconvenience, Louise. Emily, do you know if there's a way to see the older tabs? Or some way to keep a planning tab in the future?

Yes, sorry, I did remove that tab this week in an effort to keep the spreadsheet clean (when we have too many hidden tabs, it takes forever to load and is just slower for users, so I try to delete those hidden tabs frequently).

When I click the link and come to the spreadsheet nothing happens when I press M - Z. I have downloaded the app for spreadsheets but when I press "Add person" I get redirected to some other page.
Edit: I finally succeeded (I think) with adding my name. When I added the first book I noticed that the number of the prompts were not accurate. I tried to change and then the whole spreadsheet started to change - the columns changed size and I can't revert them.
Hey Nike! I'm seeing your name on the column, with two books added. The counter at the bottom looks correct, and the only major difference I saw on the tab was that there were some extra rows added at the bottom -- no problem with deleting those. It seems like you got it figured out, but let me know if you have any other issues. Using the app for a spreadsheet of this size can be tough, so I'm happy to help however I can.

I'm not quite sure about prompt #3 "...a suggestion that didn't make the 2023 list". Is there somewhere I can see these suggestions please?

Hi, Sharon! Glad you're enjoying the challenge so far. Here's a link for prompt 3: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Hi Sharon! Welcome to the challenge!
We create our list each year through a voting process in which members of the group suggest and vote on the prompts. Prompt 3 is a way for group members to read a book for a prompt they loved but that didn't make it on the final list. The thread Ana AZ shared has all of the prompts that didn't make the final cut, so you would choose one of those prompts (there are lots to choose from!) and read a book that fills that one.
Hope that helps!

Emily, it sounds like a fun way to land on the final list so I'll look forward to participating in that process for 2024.
Thanks once again, it definitely did help :)

So, I have done that (created a shelf) but it isn't updating when I finish books and add it to them. It is staying at the same number it was when I created the shelf the first time. I am having the same problem with the other challenge I am doing.
I went today and copied and pasted the shelf names in just to make sure I had them in exactly as titled and they still didn't update with the 2 books I added today.
Any thoughts?
Dumb question, but have you refreshed, or gone out and back into the screen? It often doesn't show until you do that.

Make sure you have a date read for each book - if there isn't one that falls between Jan. 1st and Dec. 31st 2023, it won't count.
My only other suggestion is to delete the shelf you've already made, and then go to the challenge and when it asks you for a shelf name, add whatever shelf name you want. It will then create a new shelf with that name.
Thanks for chiming in Kendra. The issue is usually resolved by making sure you have read dates for the books, but I didn't realize it would create a shelf for you as well. Lisa, let us know if that works!

Thank you for your prompt reply. I will do as you suggested. 😉

On the browser, when you vote for a book, on the right side, there will be a box below your vote where you can provide additional details. Then, when you click on the number of votes each book received, it will pop up with a box with who voted for that book and any notes those people left about the book they voted for.
