PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I think most mystery readers are familiar with Daphne du Maurier. I just read Jamaica Inn, a suspenseful "it was a dark and stormy night . . ." thriller.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Interviewing The Dead by David Field is the first in his Carlyle & West Victorian Mystery Series. London, 1892, ghosts of plague victims - what?? A doctor and a preacher join forces to investigate.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Who better than the actor who played Jackson Brodie in the TV series to narrate the 5th book in Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series, Big Sky? Such a pleasure to listen to, I did so twice.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Wow, Jock Serong is getting better all the time. The Burning Island, his sequel to Preservation, is another excellent piece of Australian historical fiction.

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 2304 comments I finally got around to properly reading The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien after a failed attempt back in my late teens. Totally worth it.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments As a nostalgic break from the 21st century, I revisited the well-loved children's classic The Velveteen Rabbit Or, How Toys Become Real written by Margery Williams Bianco nearly a century ago. What an excellent visit that was!

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments In spite of the title, After The Carnage is NOT a grisly thriller but a mixed collection of short stories by talented indigenous Aussie author Tara June Winch, who won the prestigious Miles Franklin award for her latest novel, The Yield. These are urban, international, and varied.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I have just finished reviewing a very fun, very nice to read book The Lost Love Song by Minnie Darke by Australian Minnie Darke

I found it a very enjoyable read and gave it four stars. I have been reading so many books with a tie to Tasmania recently, I don't know why that is, but this was another one.

And also, Just finished Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe for my personal challenge to read more of 'the classics'
Fine book! four stars

Josh | -81 comments Today I finished the new Aussie crime fiction by Benjamin Stevenson, Either Side of Midnight. Whilst I enjoyed the concept, the execution on this one was a little off.

Andrea | 2164 comments I finished 2 very different AA books yesterday. The first was The Bluffs by Kyle Perry, which I found rather disappointing.

Luckily the other one was Jock Serong's new book, The Burning Island, which was outstanding.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I would have to say that I think Fiona Higgins latest novel, An Unusual Boy is her best yet. I fell instantly in love with Jackson, he had me laughing and crying and, sometimes, quite anxious. Stunning cover!
