Not a mystery, but informative and well documented.
 The Companions
      The Companions
   by Katie M. Flynn
by Katie M. FlynnThe premise of this sci-fi novel is that - at some future time - humans can transfer their consciousness into robots, and the robots can be leased by the general public. At the same time, San Francisco is quarantined because of deadly viruses.
Intriguing premise but it doesn't quite come together.

Finished Hold Tight by Harlan Coben (just OK...my least favorite of the 3 Cobens I've read) and am currently reading Michael Connelly's 9 Dragons.

I see similarities and differences between these books and I wish I was a better writer myself because I would love to write a lot more about this. I will say something in my review of each of these books though.
See Them Run, first book in the DI Clare Mackay series by Marion Todd.
See Them Run, first book in the DI Clare Mackay series by Marion Todd. An excellent Scottish police procedural taking place in St Andrews.

The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz, the only Sherlock Holmes novel to have been approved by the estate of Arthur Conan Doyle since his death.
I found the story to be true to the original stories. I'm interested to learn what others think of it.
Currently reading The Carter of La Providence, by Georges Simenon. I’m somewhat close to the end though. His novels are short.

I liked this book and felt it captured the voice of Conan Doyle very well. I also thought it could have been tightened up a bit. I gave it 3.5 stars. 😊

I enjoy Simenon's books. I've recently finished his A Crime in Holland, which while reading seemed a bit off, but after letting it settle in my head, was actually pretty good. Before that one, it was A Man's Head, which I liked very much -- in my opinion, it is one of the better early Maigrets. Then yesterday I watched an old French film (1933) based on that novel called "La tête d’un homme" .

I enjoyed those books. It's a shame that Indridason didn't continue with that series ... it was pretty good.

Started reading Get Shorty by Elmore Leonard, but picked up Long Bright River by Liz Moore after seeing her speak at the Midtown Scholar in Harrisburg, that’s what I’ll be reading all day.

Robert B. Parker's Damned If You Do by Michael BrandmanThis 12th addition to Robert B. Parker's 'Jesse Stone' series is written by Michael Brandman. In this book, the Police Chief investigates the death of a prostitute. The book can be read as a standalone.
Doesn't quite capture Parker's voice and style. 3 stars

I'm afraid I don't have a great critical eye, but now that you mention it, yes, the prose could have been tightened in places. There were at least two instances when I remember thinking to myself, "Let's get on with it."

     The Zig Zag Girl
      The Zig Zag Girl
   by Elly Griffiths
by Elly GriffithsMagic Men #1. Altogether charming mystery set in Brighton, England in 1950. Unique cast of characters, mystery kept me guessing until the end, and wonderfully written with lots of sly bits of humor thrown in. Detective investigates a murder that leads him back to his war service with a band of theatrical types called the Magic Men. Don't want to reveal too much. I liked this book a lot.
Nancy, I’m going through Simenon’s books in chronological order (obviously, I haven’t gotten far). I plan to go through the movies of his books too. So far, I’ve only seen the series Maigret from the 90’s, around the time it was originally shown, which was actually my first introduction to Michael Gambon. He’s become a household name since.

If you can find them, I would also suggest the French TV Maigret series with Bruno Cremer. I don't know if you have MHz tv, but that's where I watched them. To me Cremer is the ultimate Maigret. The Gambon series was great too.

Next in line is the first Linda Wallheim mystery, The Bishop’s Wife by Mette Ivie Harrison.
I’ve heard Cremer is good. I’m mostly looking forward to the old movies. I’m more of a movie fan than a tv fan.
