For PA, I want to suggest Quaker as the founder of the Pennsylvania colony, William Penn, was a Quaker.

For my neighbor state that I lived in for a bit, Missouri (MO), I'll go Thriller in honor of Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl, which kicked off the trend in twisty domestic thrillers.

For Iowa, I'm going with Poetry since they're home to the famous creative writing program and one of my former classmates, a poet, got her MFA there.
I also nominate for Nebraska, weird-fiction, in honor of their advertising campaign about being weird and not for everyone.

This sounds like one of Nicole's guilty pleasures...LoL

Rhode Island is the Ocean State, has lovely beaches, lands more squid for your calamari than any other state, and is the home of coffee milk. I also think that we have more Dunkin Donuts per capita than any other state. Lol. Chickens is good too! Roger Williams and religious freedom started in RI.

Yes--we took our kids to the Roger Williams Zoo because it was the best zoo in decent driving distance even though we are in the next state.
But also, there is the Big Blue Bug so my tag suggestion for Rhode Island is biology

Basketball (huge basketball state, home of Larry Bird)
Racing (home of the Indy 500)

Re: Iowa- there’s a lot here, too, in case anyone’s looking for suggestions: we have the only UNESCO City of Literature in the US, the Iowa Writers Workshop, the Van Allen belt was discovered by a University of Iowa professor, the family farms are wonderful fodder (sorry, bad pun) for fiction. We have lots of biodiversity- even a lost moose once!
Just so long as it’s not the Bridges of Madison County... though they are pretty cool. We also have consistently good college football, women’s basketball and wrestling.

Georgia - Masters Golf...

Jenny, Georgia (Masters Golf) and Iowa (Glenn Miller) were the only ones I had a problem with - for Georgia, you have to pick either "masters" or "golf" as there is no "Masters Golf" shelf. None for Glenn Miller either.
The others I was able to work something out: e.g. for Ben & Jerry's ice cream I just did "ice cream", and other shortened ones were "capital city", "smallest", "birthplace", "prison", and "women vote". If you'd like to change any of those, just let us know. There has to be an existing GR shelf.

Anna for Glenn Miller you could use:

Alaska (AK)-- Nature
I love reading stories about this state and it is on my bucket list to visit.
Colorado (CO)--Rocky Mountains
Our home away from home. One day we hope to retire and live there. Right now we just get to spend a couple of weeks in our cabin located in the Rocky Mountains.
Hawaii (HI)--Waterfalls
Another State on my bucket list. I have an obsession with waterfalls and there is couple there I would love to see in person.
New Mexico (NM)--Southwest
My home state. Born and raised here.
Texas (TX)-- bluebonnet-- Ok changing this to Flowers. Most of the books are children's books with the bluebonnet tag.
I have lot of memories and pictures, running and posing in the bluebonnets.

I will suggest this one-I have not gotten to the M's yet- I was thinking Cape Code too....

KS-https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9... I think of Kansas, I remember the old time TV Westerns.
KY-https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3... - Kentucky is bluegrass and Horses in my head
LA - https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... -Sadly when I think of Louisiana Hurricane Katrina is what comes to mind
ME- https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7... loved Maine when I visited, especially the seafood!
MD - https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... - Maryland associates with Francis Scott Key and the war of 1812
MA-https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7... The Kennedys here are a no-brainer-thanks Amy!

Joanne, we will not be using the Listopia lists, but the GR shelves. I used literary westerns, horses, hurricanes, seafood, War of 1812, and Kennedy family. If you want to change any of those let me know!

Jazz - https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

Good ones, Judith! I will let Jenny decide which she prefers.

Sorry Anna-that is fine

BTW everyone, the only state that does not have a suggested tag yet is North Dakota.

That sounds like a neat approach! You might check out your local public library's research databases. Mine has a database called Culturegrams which is a geography resource about the culture, history and people of a place. There's a US and world section, and each place (including states) has recipes too!

A quick google search informed me that North Dakota has more churches per capita than any other state :)
