Zippergirl Over the Tightrope Over the Tightrope by Asif Ismael

Strange over-the-top look at Islam in the year 2050. A young unbeliever becomes involved in a plot to infiltrate his father's monopoly on dream water and suicide vests.

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) Just finished A Parallel Path by Marco Peel. An interesting story about two pilgrims connecting spiritually across seven centuries.

Michael Puttonen (mput) | 37 comments I recently finished reading Bernard Cornwell’s novel Death of Kings, the sixth book in his rousing historical fiction series on the birth of England, the Saxon Tales. This series features the adventures of the fictional Uhtred of Bebbanburg, an untamed Saxon-born warrior raised by Danes who must confront conflicting loyalties as the Saxons and Danes battle for control of a disunited England. I am currently reading the seventh book in the series, The Pagan Lord, and I would highly recommend this series to any who love vividly portrayed, complex, and often morally elastic characters, along with realistic battle action against a historical background. Cornwell is an excellent writer, critically acclaimed, and acknowledged as a master of historical fiction.
Death of Kings (The Saxon Stories, #6) by Bernard Cornwell The Pagan Lord (The Saxon Stories, #7) by Bernard Cornwell

I’m glad you enjoyed the first one. I’ve been a fan of Cornwell’s ever since coming across his Richard Sharpe series many years ago.

Mister Ed: "Don't yell at me, Wilbur, I'm not your wife."

I got River God second hand at a library sale back in the late 90s and still remember particular scenes from that book. His writing is fast-paced and vivid.

Zippergirl The City's Son The City's Son (The Skyscraper Throne, #1) by Tom Pollock

Rich and evocative fantasy. The spirits of old London, the true hearts of the bricks and wharfs and incandescent lamps band together to hold back the sprawl of glass and steel. Sounds strange and it is strangely endearing, this fight for what we remember.

I tend to read a lot as a rule anyway, since my time is mainly spent either writing or reading. But it also helped that most of those books weren't very long, so I could easily read a couple of them each day.

Zippergirl Just finished a great police procedural in the Greek Islands:

The Church Murders The Church Murders (Greek Island Mystery #2) by Luke Christodoulou

Bring your appetite for sunshine, spanakopita and psychos to the alluring Greek isles.

An undercover tabloid reporter is discovered dead on the island of Salamis, after following a lead on a missing gospel written by Jesus Christ. The mutilated body is found near the Saint Nicholas Monastery, and Captain Costa is certain there is a connection. When the creepy abbot blocks entry to the cloistered grounds, the investigation spreads to the local villages overlooking the Aegean Sea.
