What Genre Of Book Do You NOT Read?!!

There are definitely Shakespeare works that have a "translation"if you will on the side. Very helpful especially in the subtle meanings of the day, as Tom says. I'm glad that schools seem to be moving away from assigned reading. A lot of the good books I was assigned, I didn't like just because they took away my choice. I still find my heels digging in with books chosen by my book clubs, but finding new discoveries outweighs that :)

Horror, Vampire, Werewolves, Erotica are some genres that I absolutely don't read. I will read Romance if it has some suspense or mystery associated.
I don't read Romance or Erotica. I avoid novelizations of TV series or movies. I don't read much poetry, though I'm not averse to it. I'm open to just about any other fiction or nonfiction genre.

Well its your choice but I got to suggest this book It by Stephen King..I know you hate it.. But its something very nostalgic fiction blended with elements of horror.. A 1100+ pages. An epic.
Just saying..
Your choice.
I don't read Erotica. Not because I dislike it, but because there are so many other books I'd read before it. I do like cabbage and sprouts. :)

As to things like romance and erotica, I go by the idea that sometimes you need some junk food for the brain. I generally don't read erotica unless the plot is interesting.

Not necessarily, Ty. So many people just refuse to accept genre fiction is not REAL fiction/literature. I try not to do that.
I've read a couple of erotic novels that had good plots, otherwise I wouldn't have read them. Not an oxymoron in my opinion. Rubbish books can be and are found in ALL genres, that's for sure!

For what, romance? I would try the In Death series by J.D. Robb. It's romantic suspense, police procedural, mystery, and set in the future. The first book is Naked in Death. I also like Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick and Julie Garwood

Oh, I see that's in my TBR list-I'll have to bump it up :)
Kirsten wrote: "Not necessarily, Ty. So many people just refuse to accept genre fiction is not REAL fiction/literature. I try not to do that."I write genre fiction! I am certainly not criticising it. I haven't read good erotica or bad erotica for that matter.
Don't care much for romance, erotica, or horror. Mystery, historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy--good, if the plot moves and with engaging characters.
Science fiction and mostly fantasy-though I have read it; it's just not something that is interesting to me right now.I'd also say horror..I haven't read any of that in years.
I love my fantasy sci fi and horror collections I love my supernatural books I even love my non-fiction thriller crime and adventure books - to be honest i don't think there are any genres i wont read if something takes my fancy. its more the book itself rather than the specific genre
Kirsten wrote: "Mike wrote: "I don't read Romance or Erotica. I avoid novelizations of TV series or movies. I don't read much poetry, though I'm not averse to it. Romancing the stone was not perfect but fun, Scarface was actually very good and changed a lot. Was lucky to read Dallas and it did a deeper spin on a few scenes. Omen 2 was also great. Alien very good too, have Aliens to read.
I would say the straight science fiction genre especially with robots or warrior aliens; or books that include a lot of boring political elements. I am actually trying to force myself to read more of a range of science fiction instead of just the science fiction dystopian type books. I am more of a fantasy gal.
David wrote: "Yay! a fantasy girl in the thriller group. Nice to meet you, Katy."Love my fantasy! I do love thrillers too of course! Nice to meet you too, David.
Hello Katy, you've made David a happy man! I can't remember if I've said hello to you or not, but welcome to the group! :)

David wrote: "Yay! a fantasy girl in the thriller group. Nice to meet you, Katy."did you miss the part where I said I liked fantasy - nice to know the stuff I post gets read LOL
It should be noted that I'm getting on and my mind is often lost in the throws of inventing the next story.I'm a man, Sharon, I can't muli-task, let alone multi-think!

If they are immortal, doesn't that mean they are today and tomorrow as well? I'm just asking as I don't really have a stake in this fight.

Alright, I know I have strongly expressed the opinion that we should all be open to new reading experiences but there actually is a genre that I will not read. I confess that I have never had any interest in reading Sasquatch porn.

After True Blood, the tv series, which was pretty good and Vampire Diaries, which is pretty bad, I'm kind of done. Though I did read a good book recently but can't name it - it's giving the game away!

I never watched true blood but I read the books and I never watched vampire diaries but I read a couple of the books and have to say I don't think I am surprised if folk gave up after the vampire diaries - pile of mince lol
Erotica I can do - but it has to be good.
Not the 50 Shades rubbish! If there was ever a book so badly written! :0|

The Originals isn't bad. My eldest watches that. It has Klaus - that's a good thing!

If you are talking about Sasquatch porn, you're welcome to it. We'll let you tell us if it's any good.
Sharon wrote: "sasquatch porn?? that's a bigfoot step in the wrong direction! not heard of that lol"Apparently cryptozoological erotica is an up-and-coming sub-genre. Maybe the writers in the group will want to capitalize on it. Check out this article.
Why Bigfoot porn author Virginia Wade quit the monster-smut game
Chic-Lit and Romantic Comedies are certainly not my thing. Or slushy romances of any kind. But the cryptozoological erotica. Sounds interesting. Give it a go. Anything but Rom Com...Anything...
I enjoy a Vampire story if it's real horror. But not the 'Twilight' kind of Vampire or modern Werewolf or Vampire stories. It must be dark and Gothic. And old..
J M wrote: "I enjoy a Vampire story if it's real horror. But not the 'Twilight' kind of Vampire or modern Werewolf or Vampire stories. It must be dark and Gothic. And old.."I don't know that it has to be old but you can't write 'The 90-year-old virgin' and expect us to believe it's a vampire.
