Challenge 4 of 2014: Finish What You Started!

Gah! That is going to make this, well, a challenge. I'm sure I can scrounge up something.

What can I say? I didn't have a lot to do yesterday/today and it was a really cute book.
This is a "Been on my TBR bookshelf for 6+ months"
Original post #14.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, so I totally SUCK at these challenges and I am 0 for 2 so far. But I am going to try this *one* more time and if I fail again, then I will forever ban myself from entering these things :D
♦ One or more of any books in a series that you've started but not continued in over 6 months
♦ One or more of the books that have been on your TBR (To Be Read) Goodreads bookshelf for 6 months or more
♦ One or more of any book that you've had in your possession for 6 months or more. Physical or ebook, Owned or borrowed!
Alright, thanks! And unfortunately I had to move back in with my parents for a bit (unpaid internships are evil) but looking for apartments is fun :)
♦ ..."
Mich, remember Finnikin's buddy reading in December. I think we are allowed to read up to three books of the same series... that might mean half the challenge! ;P
I loved your three first choices, BTW.
Third time's a charm, mich! I believe in you! :)
I loved your three first choices, BTW. "
Thanks for the reminder, I DID forget, lol :D hehe, you're right, that series is half the challenge, woohoo!
Those books that I have in the 'series that that I've started but haven't continued' category might be hard for me -- all of them except for the Queen's Thief are series where it's been YEARS since I read the last book. I barely remember anything in what's going on with Irony Fey, etc. :P
Lol, hope so! :) Thank you!
I loved your three..."
I understand that. I don't think I can continue with my own series after all this time.
I loved
I have had all of the Bloodlines series on my TBR since 2012. I would still be able to get two books in the first category without it...but it got me thinking :)
Also, for books that are in a series I used to read, and have been on my TBR forever, can I just plug them in to either of the first category? Or do you prefer non-series books for #2?
Release date matters! We're not reading anything published on or after 4/1/2014. (And we're only allowed to read 3 titles published between 1/1/2014 and 3/31/2014).
As to your second question (and a great question) it is totally fine to use series books in any of the categories. I imagine that many of the books that fit the various categories will have cross-over. You can pick which list to use them for. You just want to make sure you've got a least 1 of each list when you're done :)
Personally, I'm trying to find titles that fit all 3 as much as possible, because then I'll feel like I'm REALLY catching up on my reading! Haha.
This is also my one non-ya book, it's actually adult and not MG for once.
Awesome, Ashley! However when you post in the future, can you do me a favor and give me the number of your original post? (11, in your case). I ask this of most folks, but you especially since there's another Ashley in the challenge and I want to keep everyone in order. Thanks!
Sure! As long as it's been on a To-Be-Read/listened longer than 6 months, I'm happy to count it.
{Post #43}"
Hilarious! I think that you and Sandra should now discuss it :)
Also, can I use a prequel for part of series? It is listed as book 0.5 on GR but is a full length book and was published after the first 3. The Ring of Solomon
Also, can I use a prequel for part of series?"
I would NOT consider Frankenstein to be YA (though it is a great book!). But keep in mind that you are allowed to read one non-YA book as part of the challenge.
And yes, I would allow a prequel as part of a series. (So long as it didn't come out first).
Thanks Gremlin! I've had Sabriel on my audio list for over a year.
That's what I assumed but I thought I would check. I have already used my one non-ya book.
Updated post #10."
How was Sabriel? Honestly, I think I've owned that book for more than a decade and still haven't gotten around to it. I should CLEARLY put that on my list for this challenge if you think it's good :)
You know - it's funny you should bring that up. I was literally JUST thinking the same thing! I think that 2 non-YA books should be totally allowed as long as you're going for Bronze, Silver, or Gold Medal levels :)
Sabriel was enjoyable, partly due to Tim Curry as the reader. I am a sucker for audiobooks; and this one was no exception. I really liked the storyline, and found it to be easier to follow than other fantasy novels. Not so many supporting characters to keep track of, plus some great world-building. You should give it a try!
I think I am the only person I know who didn't like Sabriel. I DNF. My husband loved it and read the entire series. And I'm pretty sure harsh words were spoken once on this group when I mention that I didn't like it :) Just not for me. And I love audiobooks! For me, that wasn't enough to save it, but I also know I'm in the minority.
YAY! I have a couple of adult books I need to get to and was hoping this challenge would help with that!
Tim Curry as the narrator? Oh man! Now it seems sad and lackluster that I have a physical copy. Haha!
Finally finished the Vampire Academy series..yay
Hi Rae! For your first question, I'd say it's totally fine to read those! Just use them as a "on my TBR list" instead of saying they are in the series list. Make sense?
As to the second question, you are correct. It unfortunately won't count since you finished the book after April 1 (I know! I'm being such a stickler!!!).
All that aside, I hope that you're move went well! Do you like the new place?
