Zuza | 168 comments Hi guys! Just checking in.

Can someone post the task here, so we know whose gonna work on what task and we can start planning. (I am on my phone, don't have acces to computer.)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Here's what is on the spreadsheet for the first round

10. First published on the 10th of a month - Zuza
9. With at least nine characters (need to have a speaking part, do not need to be main characters) - Zuza

8. That has a carnivorous animal on the cover - Sarah
7. Written by an author who has published at least seven books (as listed on Goodreads) - Kristin
6. That is number six in the series - Sarah
5. That was first published in the 1950s
4. Where the audio version has at least four narrators
3. That is part of what was originally a planned trilogy, but became a longer series (can include .5 books added later) - Kerri
2. That has two authors (as credited on Goodreads) - Kerri
1. Which is the author's debut novel - Kristin

Kristin | 120 comments I can do task #7!

I would read Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman who has written well over 7 books.

message 7: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments I can also grab task #1

I would read The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton- her debut novel.

message 8: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I could Smoke & Iron by Rachel Caine for #3! The Great Library series was originally supposed to be a trilogy.

message 9: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I could also read Illuminae for #2. I’ve been meaning to read that book for forever.

message 10: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Perfect! Can you update your post with the tasks with the name of who will complete the task so we can keep track of what's left?

message 11: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments It looks like it's in view only mode for me. I don't know if it's because the challenge hasn't started yet or because I'm not the captain? Either way, I can just update my previous post as we claim things until it's opened up :)

message 12: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Aaaannnnd, I just realized you said my post and not the sheet, lol. Don’t mind me, it’s midnight here and I should really be asleep 😅

message 13: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Yes that's what I meant, thank you!

I requested access to the spreadsheet so waiting on that. I'm sure we can all request access if you want access as well.

message 14: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments I can do tasks #10 and #9

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments I can do #6

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments I might be able to do #4 but I have to check in audible. It's asking for four different voice actors right? not like.....4 narrators in the story?

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments don't mind me, I'm just going to post this here because I know I'm going to need to read it a ton lol

I think you're right, there needs to be four or more voice actors, not necessarily narrators. Perhaps one of the mods could better explain it?

message 19: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments I THOUGHT so so that knocks out the book I was thinking. let me do some research for that one since we have a few days

message 20: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Does anyone have a book that works for the last 2 tasks? #8 and #5?

message 21: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I'll have to go through my TBR shelf, but nothing is coming to mind at the moment.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments I'll take 8 for sure.

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments and I can MAYBE do #4

message 24: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I can probably find an audiobook for #4. I have an Audible credit I need to spend anyways!

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments ok Kerri!!

message 26: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments let me know if you can't and I'll take that one

message 27: by Zuza (last edited Aug 11, 2019 09:29AM) (new)

Zuza | 168 comments For task #10 I'm gonna read this one, published July 10th 2018.

For task #9 I'm gonna read this one, hopefully there will be a lot of suspects.

And it seems like no one wants to do the task #5, for that I could read this one, first published October 16th 1950, it could fit the task right?

message 28: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I have a question about #4. It says we have to read something where the audio version has more than four narrators. Does that necessarily mean we have to listen to the audiobook or would reading the physical version still count as long as the audiobook has the required number of narrators?

Oh yeah I think that that looks good for #5!

I had the same question!

message 31: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments @ Kerri try the "ask the volcanologist" thread. It might be there.

message 32: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Happy reading everyone!!

message 33: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Also, I got editing access to the spreadsheet so I can start adding to it today

message 34: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments So if everyone can let me know what books you’re reading if you haven’t already, that would be great!

message 35: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Happy reading! I started Smoke and Iron today for task #3.

message 36: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Zuza wrote: "@ Kerri try the "ask the volcanologist" thread. It might be there."

Good idea, Zuza! Thanks :)

message 37: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments So according to the "volcanologists", you don't have to read the audio version, so I could take care of #4 by reading Daisy Jones & The Six.

message 38: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments crap I did poor research ... my 6th book in a series isn't out yet so I'm going to find a new one for that topic. I'll get it done though not to worry.

message 39: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments So I finished my first book!

Task #3 - Part of what was an originally planned trilogy
Book: Smoke and Iron
Date read: Aug 15, 2019

On to Daisy Jones & The Six :)

message 40: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Yay! Go Kerri!

message 41: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments Hey guys, I don't know if I am reading that correctly but according to the countdown, we only have 3 days to finish the 10 tasks.

message 42: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments We should have until next Sunday. Each round lasts 2 weeks. At least that was my understanding.

message 43: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments Mine to but take a look at "read first all about ... " folder

message 44: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Omg I think you're right. I'm probably not going to be able to finish both my books by Monday because I thought we had the full two weeks ;(

message 45: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments I added your book to the spreadsheet Kerri.

message 46: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Hmm, I'm confused... cause in the "Ask the Volcanologist" thread, one of the top Q&A's is:

◈Q: How long does the team have to complete the initial list of tasks?
◈A: Two weeks!
The aim is to read the 10 countdown tasks and then as many of the safezone groups as possible in the two weeks :)

Are we only getting one week now?

message 47: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 120 comments Yeah exactly, so I'm confused

message 48: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I asked and it looks like the time frame for us to complete our initial tasks is random, but we have still have two weeks total. At least, that's how I'm interpreting it? Here's the thread:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 49: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments I finished The Unfortunates by Kim Liggett for #10 and I updated the spreadsheet, hopefully I will be able to finish The Devil You Know by Trish Doller for task #9 before we hit zero.

message 50: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments So it seem like I didn't update that spreadsheet :(. Can you please update the task #10 for me? Thanks
