LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Are there any January releases you're excited for?"this wretched valley by jenny kiefer
The only one I see on my TBR is Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar. It seems quite interesting but I don't know if I'll get to it this month.
January releases I'm looking forward to:•Faebound by Saara El-Arifi
•Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
•Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire
•House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas
•The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake
•A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft
•Dark Star Burning, Ash Falls White by Amélie Wen Zhao
•The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers
•Sanctuary of the Shadow by Aurora Ascher
•Gothikana by RuNyx
•The Principle of Moments by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson
•The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland
•The Fury by Alex Michaelides
I didn't have any books in mind. But after looking at Krystyns's list, I have added The Fury by Alex Michaelides.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Aside from a yearly reading goal, do you have any other bookish goals for 2024?"i wanna read from a wider range of countries and i wanna read more non-fiction
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Aside from a yearly reading goal, do you have any other bookish goals for 2024?"I just want to diversify my reading in all aspects. I also want to include more nonfiction. I need to add more manga in there too because I had so much fun with it last year.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Aside from a yearly reading goal, do you have any other bookish goals for 2024?"I always participate in challenges. I have about 8 yearly challenges going right now. They all look good. But, if I don't like one as well as I thought I would, I simply drop it. I also participate in a variety of challenges that run any where between 1 month to 6 months.
And I will get some of my physical books on hand read and passed on.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Aside from a yearly reading goal, do you have any other bookish goals for 2024?"I'd like to read more non-fiction, in all sub-genres. and perhaps tackle a few more classics as well.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Aside from a yearly reading goal, do you have any other bookish goals for 2024?"I want to keep up with my reading journal – I created spreads that I've never done before so hopefully that will help me stick to it. I also want to read a lot of from my own bookshelves. One of my biggest goals is to read books that I'm super excited for. I'll pick up books that may not be higher on my TBR priority because I know they'll be quick reads or they're borrowed from the library but I really want to focus on being more intentional. I'm a mood reader and I will read pretty much any genre but I really want to focus on reading my favorite genres this year. I also want to post more content on my bookstagram.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your most anticipated book release of 2024, and why (if you'd like to share)?"This is a tough question for me to answer but I'm just going to pick one of my most anticipated releases and not dwell on it too much because there are so many I'm looking forward to. I'm going with Faebound by Saara El-Arifi.
Little Rot by Akwaeke Emezi. Emezi is my all-time favorite author and has been for awhile. I'm always excited to pick up something new from them.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your most anticipated book release of 2024, and why (if you'd like to share)?"Angel of Vengeance by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. This is the 22 book in the Pendergast series. I have read and enjoyed all of them.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your most anticipated book release of 2024, and why (if you'd like to share)?"the angel of indian lake by stephen graham jones. i'm excited to see how the trilogy ends!
Shortest: Content Warning: Everything by Akwaeke Emezi (unrated)
Longest:
Tomie by Junji Ito (3 stars)
The shortest book I read last year was The Six Deaths of the Saint by Alix E. Harrow, which I rated 4 stars. The longest book I read last year was The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, which I rated 5 stars and was a carry-over from the year prior.
..
Shortest: At Christmas Time (Translated) by Anton Chekhov. 8 pages. 1 star.
Longest: One Rainy Day in May by Mark Z. Danielewski. 880 pages. 4 stars.

Last read was Lights by Brenna Thummler (3 stars)

LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Who is your favorite fictional character, and why?"It's probably my first fictional love, Aragorn, from LOTR lol. Even from book to movie my feelings didn't change about him. He's just such a cool character. Viggo Mortensen definitely did Aragorn justice.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Who is your favorite fictional character, and why?"Mine varies, I have so many. If I had to paint a broad stroke, I'd say Elizabeth Bennett, Jo March, Anne Shirley. For their individuality, intelligence and their forthright approach in their worlds.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Who is your favorite fictional character, and why?"Oh my gosh. So many choices. At this moment, I am going with Bilbo Baggins from LOTR, The Hobbit. I loved how he went on an adventure. He had no idea what he was doing, but he just kept pushing on.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What genre do you want to read more of this year, and why?"probably more gothic/dark academia, and non fiction.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What genre do you want to read more of this year, and why?"Nonfiction or weird fiction books/horror. I also want to try more anthologies.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What was your last disappointing read, and why didn't you like it?"Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo. It looked like it would be my kind of book. A guy talking to ghosts. But instead it was a whole lot of nothing. Blah, blah, blah. No point to it all.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What was your last disappointing read, and why didn't you like it?"I had such high expectations for The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enriquez, but I disliked every story that was in it. I'm not sure if the translation ruined it, but the content in the book was just not for me.
I'm not sure if I'll get around to any re-reads this year. If I do I may re-read The Poppy War and The Bear and the Nightingale so I can continue on with each trilogy.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Are you planning on doing any re-reads this year? If so, what book(s)?"i'm currently re-reading my heart is a chainsaw by stephen graham jones, and i'm gonna re-read the second book don't fear the reaper soon because the third book comes out this year. there's a lot of other things i've been wanting to re-read but i'm not sure what all i'll actually get around to
I’m dying to reread Giovanni’s Room. I also want to reread the first two books in The Poppy War trilogy so I can finally read the third one.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your favorite book series, and why?"I don't read a lot of series, but so far I'd have to say The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang (even though it's only a trilogy). I've read the first two books multiple times and they never bore me. I always find something new that I missed the previous read. I'm excited to finish the trilogy this year.
I'd like to add a manga series and say One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. It's just so much fun.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your favorite book series, and why?"Tough choice. But I am going with the Aloysius Pendergast Series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. All the books have been consistently good.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Are you planning on doing any re-reads this year? If so, what book(s)?"- Eragon by Christopher Paolini, reread the first 4 books in the series then read the latest in the series.
- Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, a childhood favorite.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your favorite book series, and why?"i'm gonna say the indian lake trilogy by stephen graham jones even though it's only a trilogy. i can't think of the last time i read a series. i don't really gravitate toward them
QOTD: Has your bookish tastes, reading formats, routines, etc. changed over the past year? If so, how?
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Has your bookish tastes, reading formats, routines, etc. changed over the past year? If so, how?"My reading taste has changed a lot over the past year. I read a lot more e-books since buying a kindle. I definitely picked up more diverse books than I have in the past. I read manga now!? I think I enjoy reading more now that I understand new releases aren't the only books I have to read.
