Question of the Day
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Do you decorate your bookshelf? If so, what kind of decorations do you have on it?"yeah, i'm a knick-knack person so i have all kinda of little things on my shelf like jars, halloween decorations i never put up, and stuff other people have given me
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Do you decorate your bookshelf? If so, what kind of decorations do you have on it?"Yes. Knick-knacks, small stuffed animals, and some dvds mixed in.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Do you decorate your bookshelf? If so, what kind of decorations do you have on it?"I have some little figurines from DG that are like a small fairy garden, little knick knacks I've gotten as souvenirs, some family pictures, a music box that belonged to my nana. It's pretty eclectic, no real theme.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Do you decorate your bookshelf? If so, what kind of decorations do you have on it?"I don't put a lot of decorations on my bookshelves because of space but I do have a few things. I have a holder that I have some bookmarks in, I have some small picture frames, Funko Pop figures, and a few other little odds and ends.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Do you have any plans for the holidays?"My plans for the holidays are to spend a small, quiet Christmas with my family. It will be full of Christmas movies, hot cocoa, a Christmas dinner, and hopefully lots of reading.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: If you could be in one bookish world for the winter, where would you want to go?"My first thoughts were of all the dystopian YA book universes, but I'd definitely die lol so maybe something older, more cozy. Little Women, or Anne of Green Gables, or a Jane Austen.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your favorite fictional animal or pet?"I narrowed it down to 2.
Dragons and Hippogriffs
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is your favorite fictional animal or pet?"I could list so many for this...but I think I'm going to go with dragons. Tell me a book has dragons and I'm immediately intrigued.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What has been your most read genre this year?"horror. it makes up a little over half of everything i've read
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What has been your most read genre this year?"Fantasy has been my most read genre this year, in the format of regular novels and graphic novels.
Not gonna lie, I think it was manga. A lot of manga with fantasy elements, romance, and/or action/adventure. It’s been a fun year of exploring and really finding what I enjoy, and I never thought manga would become a favorite.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What has been your most read genre this year?"I really have no idea. I read a good mix of genres.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Are there any books or projects you'd like to finish before the end of the year?"the two books i'm currently reading: the hundred years war on palestine by rashid khalidi & blackouts by justin torres. &there are some junji ito manga i wanna get to
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Are there any books or projects you'd like to finish before the end of the year?"I'd like to finish ACOTAR and get my bullet journal spreads completed before January begins.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Are there any books or projects you'd like to finish before the end of the year?"I think if I can finish Lights by Brenna Thummler and Winter in Sokcho by Elisa Shua Dusapin, I'd be good. It's definitely doable!
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What's a book or movie that you love to revisit every December?"Home Alone & Home Alone 2...but I watch Home Alone more often than the second.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What's a book or movie that you love to revisit every December?"not sure why but little weirds by jenny slate. don't know that i'll have time for it this year though
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What's a book or movie that you love to revisit every December?"I know it's not a Christmas movie, but I enjoy watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles around this time of year.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Share a winter-themed poem or quote that resonates with you."One of my favorite winter-themed poems is one by Robert Frost called Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. I have this lovely edition, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, and I like to read it every winter, usually in December. I think the poem is a lovely reminder to anyone to never give up.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Share a winter-themed poem or quote that resonates with you."I don't think I have one lol. If I do find one I'll come back.
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: Share a winter-themed poem or quote that resonates with you.""Winter is coming.”
― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What's one accomplishment from this year that you're most proud of?"I traveled by myself by plane to NYC. and didn't have a mental breakdown lol
LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What's one accomplishment from this year that you're most proud of?"I didn't really do much this year. I completed a 2,000 piece puzzle recently which is the biggest puzzle I've ever completed lol.

– I read 50 books in 2023. My favorite was The Priory of the Orange Tree and my least favorite was Ant Story.
– I read 5 books in December. All of my reads in December were 4 stars so it's difficult to pick a favorite and least favorite for the month.
I read 67 books in 2023. My favorite was a tie between Imagine Me Gone by Adam Haslett and Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin. I want to add some honorable mentions:
Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi
Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty
Garlic and the Vampire/Witch by Bree Paulsen
Open Throat by Henry Hoke
Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones
My least favorite was hands down Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica. I never wanna see that book again.
I read 4 books in December. I didn't really love any of them, but if I had to pick a favorite it's probably The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich by Deya Muniz.
My least favorite was Bad Cree by Jessica Johns. :( That breaks my heart to say because I was so excited for it. I learned that it was actually a short story before it became a novel, and I think it would have been more successful as a short story.
..

I read 112 this year. I had quite a few that I rated as 5 stars including The Tyranny of Faith by Richard Swan, which is one of the stand outs among them. One of the most disappointing was In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune.I read 17 in December. Not sure I have a fave as nearly all were 4 or 5 stars for me. I was quite disappointed though by Nightbane by Alexa Aster.
My list of January hopefuls: •A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
•Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
•Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
•Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
•Heartstopper: Volume Five by Alice Oseman
The two I'm currently reading: Chain-Gang All-Stars and A Short Stay in Hell. This might change as the month progresses:
Blackouts by Justin Torres
Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas
Maybe a few volumes of Giant Days by John Allison
I don't know what else yet.
