He grew up in the Midwest where the land is flat and the corn is tall. The winters are bleak and cold. He hated winters.

He always wanted to write. But writing was hard. And he wasn’t very disciplined. The cold had nothing to do with that, but it didn’t help. That changed in grad school.

After several attempts at a proposal, his major advisor was losing money on red ink and advised him to figure it out. Somehow, he did.

After grad school, he and his wife and two very little children moved to the South in Charleston, South Carolina where the winters are spring and the summers are a sauna (cliche but dead on accurate). That’s when he started teaching and writing articles for tr

Just started on the third book in the Foreverland series...

THE ASHES OF FOREVERLAND

This is a YA science fiction series. This, I think, will be more challenging than my earlier works since I'm planning to merge the Foreverland series with the Halfskin series. The characters from both series will clash in book 7 (at the least characters that survive). I'm in the first couple of weeks and the plot threads are many, but a few of the characters have already sunk their teeth in me.

I'm also keeping a journal as I develop this story. It will follow my writing process, how I come up with ideas, the title, the characters and how I refine them. If all goes well, I'll publish it for free.

If all goes well...(less)

The Roots of Drayton is finally done.

This is the first full length novel in the Drayton series. It's more science-fantasy than it is urban fantasy. The series started out more urban fantasy but this novel evolved with more science fiction elements. So Sci-Fan.

It was space.

That was the element that bent it toward sci-fi. Like a lot of my stories, I don't recall how I got to it, but it frequent... Read more of this blog post »

Tony Bertauski HALFSKIN, a novel. Rough draft done.

Biomites are artificial stem cells that can replace any cell in your body. No more kidney failure, no severed spines or blood disease. No cancer. Pharmaceuticals become obsolete. With each dose of biomites, we become stronger, we become smarter and prettier.

We become better.

At what point are we no longer human?

Tony Bertauski I read A Dirty Job from a recommendation and I've never laughed that long and hard at a novel as that one. He's a fan of profanity and I sort of like that, although I don't have the courage to write like he does. I never caught on with his other novels, for whatever reason.

Catherine When I'm done with Prophecy Of The Sisters, I'm going to start A Dirty Job!!!! I'm excited. I've heard so many good things about it.
