QOTD: Starbucks' holiday drinks are releasing today. What's your favorite or what are you going to try first?
• Peppermint mocha
• Chestnut Praline Latte
• Caramel Brûlée Latte
• Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai (new)
• Sugar Cookie Almond Milk Latte

message 3405: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments The gingerbread oatmilk chai sounds good, but I'd most likely go for a peppermint mocha.

Dawn | 372 comments My fave is the Chesnut Praline Latte then the Caramel Brûlée Latte.

QOTD: How many books did you read in October? What was your favorite and least favorite reads of the month?

message 3408: by Vivian (last edited Nov 03, 2023 06:23AM) (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I read 10 things completely, and I finished up one at the beginning of the month.

Even though I still gave it three stars, I think Permafrost by Eva Baltasar was my least favorite.

I have a few favorites from the month:

Garlic & the Vampire by Bree Paulsen
Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones
Never Whistle at Night edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C. Van Alst Jr.

Honorable mention:
Open Throat by Henry Hoke

QOTD: What's your preferred reading spot when it's gloomy and overcast in November?

message 3419: by silas☆ (new)

silas☆ (lyc4nthropes) | 711 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What's your preferred reading spot when it's gloomy and overcast in November?"

in my bed with the blinds/curtains open so i can see outside

message 3420: by Krystyna (new)

Krystyna (adoseofcozy) | 889 comments On my couch, in comfy clothes, with a cozy blanket, my book or kindle, a reading ambience video to match the weather/book/cozy vibe, and a cup of tea/coffee (depending on time of day). That is like the recipe for a gloomy November reading day/evening.

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What's your preferred reading spot when it's gloomy and overcast in November?"

On my couch with a blanket and some sort of beverage.

QOTD: In November, are you more drawn to reading indoors or outside in the crisp, cool air?

message 3424: by silas☆ (new)

silas☆ (lyc4nthropes) | 711 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: In November, are you more drawn to reading indoors or outside in the crisp, cool air?"

outdoors

message 3425: by Krystyna (new)

Krystyna (adoseofcozy) | 889 comments If the weather is nice but just the air is crisp and cool then outside reading is lovely. But, more often than not, I burrow into a blanket and read indoors.

Elizabeth (estewart399_lcpl) | 601 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: If your favorite fall beverage had a book counterpart, what would it be and why?"

Pumpkin spice latte and probably a very basic, mainstream book like a Colleen Hoover lol

Krystyna (adoseofcozy) | 889 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: In November, do you prefer reading books set in cozy small towns or adventurous journeys?"

I'd say adventurous journeys for November. My cozy small town settings in books usually happen in December.

QOTD: Share a book that makes you feel as warm and content as a favorite November sweater, and why.

message 3443: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I read a lot of heavy books so there aren't a ton of options. I'd say 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff is a good choice. It's kind of bittersweet at the end, but it's just full of book talk and jokes between two people who have never met. It's also short so you could cozy up and read it in a sitting. It's just so precious and I need to reread it.

QOTD: Share a book that has a compelling family saga, perfect for the season of togetherness.

message 3445: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Family sagas and I don't do well together. I've never read one that I could actually recommend.

QOTD: November is a time for comfort reads. What book do you turn to when you need literary coziness?

message 3449: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (estewart399_lcpl) | 601 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: November is a time for comfort reads. What book do you turn to when you need literary coziness?"

I like something I've read before, maybe as a kid or teen that I remember loving and the story is already familiar. Or recently, a cozy mystery that's also clever and well executed without being cheesy.

the only book i've pretty consistently re-read this time of year (usually in december though) is little weirds by jenny slate but i think howls moving castle by diana wynn jones would be a nice comfort read to revisit
