My last notification was yesterday Brenda. And on GR I have a pretty long list of notifications that did not go through to email.

Actually, I just had another look; my email decided to shift all my GR notifications into spam folder. If you are with yahoo Brenda, that might be what is happening.

Mine started coming through overnight - I had 54 emails at 6am this morning and the earliest start email was over 8 hours old! And not Yahoo Deborah :)

For lovers of Aussie author Malla Nunn (A Beautiful Place To Die, Blessed Are The Dead, Let The Dead Lie, Present Darkness) I just read this fantastic news!

Stacey Barney at Putnam has bought Malla Nunn's When the Ground Is Hard, a novel about being brave, standing against injustice, and the importance of female friendship at a mixed-race boarding school in Swaziland. Publication is planned for spring 2019; Catherine Drayton at InkWell Management negotiated the deal for world English rights.

Woohoo!!!

No it's YA apparently. And I agree - wish she would write some more of that, but at least she's writing something!

marlin1 | 422 comments Going through my top picks of books for this year has made me realise how much my book tastes have changed over the years and how much I'm embracing Aussie Authors....my list could have gone much longer for aussie authors.
I think we have a unique 'voice' whatever the genre and I'm enjoying it so much.

message 358: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79974 comments Mod
I agree with the change over the years Marlin. I have so many books here I bought years ago that I'm really not interested in any more. It's quite amazing really!

message 359: by marlin1 (new)

marlin1 | 422 comments I agree Brenda! Do you think the number of Australian Authors has increased too?
I'm not sure if it's my exposure to Netgalley that makes me think it has or digital publishing.....

message 360: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79974 comments Mod
I think it definitely has - but our awareness of them is heightened too. I know mine started back in 2012 when the Better Reading program was on; when they started having author talks at libraries. That was when I met my first authors, and really started to concentrate on reading AAs :)

For those of us who use Photobucket, this news will be disappointing - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Not sure what else we are going to be able to use :(

They say they will, but who's to know!

message 365: by Susan (new)

Susan Dewey | 3 comments Years ago - some time before 1976 - I read a book (yes, who didn't!) that took place in Australia. The protagonist was a young woman, there was romance, and she wandered about looking for her destiny. In part of her journey she worked as a photograph tinter. Does this sound even vaguely familliar.

I would love to find this book again.
Thanks

Susan we have a thread for trying to find specific books here - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... - and there's a group out there in Goodreads land which is devoted to finding "lost" books. Here's their link: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Good luck!

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments And then this.

I have now done another test, deleting an image from Photobucket, but the photo (of the author) is still showing on my GR review, even after I restart the computer and even after I "edit" the review (leaving the original PB html code in place) and repost it.

However, if I click on the photo in the review, I am sent to a spinning circle on PB (meaning the stored PB image is gone). But it seems Goodreads has saved it somewhere.

Update is that I get a broken image link in the app on devices. Maybe I still have some kind of cookie in the laptop - I don't know. That was this review. See if you see a photo of Niki Savva.

I've worked a way around posting photos :)

First I have created a secret group on facebook (which needs min 2 members to be viable so my daughter joined me!!) where no one else can view it. Then I download the photos I want to put in here, into my FB group.

Then right click on the photo you want, click on "copy image address" - go to where you want to post the photo and

< img src="paste the link"> (no space between < and img)

and it's done :)

If you don't have a facebook profile you obviously can't do this, but joining just to be able to post photos (if that's what you want) isn't too hard :)

I'm going to say; probably not her actual name seems to be Mroczna Strona - and I don't think she writes in English does she?

I agree with Deborah, Sue. I did some searching and her official Facebook site doesn't mention where she's from, and that's the only site with information... sorry :)

message 398: by Sue (last edited Nov 06, 2017 05:50PM) (new)

Sue | 62 comments Thanks, both of you, Deborah and Brenda. I did as much searching as I could before even asking the question here.

The audio book was Audible's Daily Deal ( in U.S. ) on 11/6; I had not heard of the book or author before; I saw on her Author page under "TOPICS MENTIONING THIS AUTHOR", that she was mentioned in this group (Aussie Readers) in the "Free/low priced Kindle, ebooks & audio" thread, and also in a thread for the "Aussie Lovers of Crime/Mystery/Thriller/Suspense" group ( and not mentioned by a whole bunch of other groups.)

So I tried to find somewhere online that mentioned where she was from, without much success. Where did you find the Mroczna Strona connection, Deborah? If I had seen that I probably wouldn't have asked here.

On the humorous side: What I was kind of hoping for was that I just didn't know much about her because of living in the U.S. I was hoping the response to my question might be something like "Oh, Minka! - everybody in Australia knows about Minka! She just lives right down the road in Whyalla (or wherever ) "

Guess not - LOL :)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I have an idea that Minka Kent/Mroczna Strona is from Czechoslovakia.
