Doesn't fit? Book related? Then put it here!

Sharon wrote: "Ok I'll give that a go. Thanks Phrynne 😊"Sharon, this has happened to me and I fixed it on the Edit Review page as it had 2 lots of dates for "date read". I hit the x on the wrong set of dates and then re-saved my review. Its fiddly.
I've found it often happens if I finish a book and don't put the review up at the same time. I've had to change some too.
Dale wrote: "I've found it often happens if I finish a book and don't put the review up at the same time. I've had to change some too."It's happening to many members. At first I was thinking that re-reading books had become a huge fad and I had missed the memo lol.
Was there a book you read in school that really resonated with you?I did an Australian Literature class in Year 12. This was my favourite English module and our teacher, Mrs Schaefer was the best.
We read a book a term and they were
Johnno by David Malouf
A Victim of the Aurora by Thomas Keneally
The Merry-Go-Round in the Sea by Randolph Stow
A Difficult Young Man by Martin Boyd
The Martin Boyd book was my favourite and I read all the rest in this series and created a family tree of the characters with one of my high school friends.
Anyone else want to share school faves?

Diana I'd suggest you open a thread for this - it would be a good topic all of it's own :) Thanks!

Ace - Thank you I fiddled with this so many times last night and couldn't work it out and I gave up. Just read you post and I've fixed it. 😊😊

Thanks Brenda, I have started a thread for school reads.

I loved Reach for the Sky by Paul Brickhill. Our other choice that year was The Wind in the Willows which I did my best to ignore.
Hiya all! Today I got a book recommendation from someone, I didn't write it down and so I cannot google successfully: Someone with the surname of Bevis (radio? tv? abc maybe?) has recently written a book about the Sydney Harbour....Now that I look at the paltry information available, I realise it will be a miracle if anyone can help me... Still, worth trying...

Not sure where to put this, but it seems that from next year Goodreads is going to start charging authors US$119 to run Giveaways, Initially the scheme will only run in the US. They're making changes which will supposedly benefit readers and authors, but it could be that Aussie indi authors will find it very difficult to keep doing giveaways. Here's the info and the chance to do a survey (link at the end). What are your thoughts?https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/1...
Yes I saw the blog post today Stella. My question is - who gets the money from the authors they charge? I think it's unfair personally...
Brenda wrote: "Yes I saw the blog post today Stella. My question is - who gets the money from the authors they charge? I think it's unfair personally..."Good question Brenda. I assume there is some cost to administering the giveaways that Goodreads has been wearing, but not that much.
Ace wrote: "Hi Stella, as much as I disagree with the initiative, the survey is for authors, not readers."Thanks for pointing that out :) I was looking at the page as an author.

Stella, there is a discussion here with other authors on this topic, also, has some tips and workarounds to consider.

Copy & pasted from the blogThe new Goodreads Giveaways program, which replaces our current Giveaways program, will go live on January 9, 2018, and will initially be for giveaways open to U.S. residents.
So does this mean those of us not in the U.S are no longer eligible to enter giveaways?? :(
Brenda wrote: "That's interesting reading, thanks Ace."Thanks from me too. A lot of people (authors) seem to be saying they've seen little or no benefit from running giveaways, so it will be interesting to see if those who can afford the price get better results.
That's how I read it Zoey. Amazon is starting to impact us members more and more now. They will probably just flog the big publishers, giveaway the books of authors who already have big consumer bases. It's ridiculous. They just want to overshadow the indies and self published authors. I would understand it if it was a huge market share, but I guess they just want all the authors, all the books and all the money.
I don't actually go in any that have US, etc on them as the chances are less. I only ever go in the AU giveaways :) And supposedly they won't be affected YET!!
When I did it I always checked AU on the list. But I think you might be right when you say AU and other reading zones will follow
Brenda wrote: "I don't actually go in any that have US, etc on them as the chances are less. I have won a couple of books which is a pretty good strike rate as it's rare that I enter.
Here is a quiz that will confirm how book crazy you are! I checked 21 of 29 on this list...If You Do 19/29 Of These Things Then You Should Own A Library

Good one Ace! Perhaps you can open a new thread in the Just for Fun folder and everyone can have a go :) Thanks!
Just read the post about the giveaways. I primarily enter the Australian ones but do enter overseas ones as well ( and won). I hope there is not a drop off in the number of giveaways as I just counted that I have won 82 books from this site alone since I joined in March 2014. My sister has won many as well and we would not have discovered some great authors if we hadn't won these books.
