Picked up Scarlet new today. I also went by my favorite used book store and got Imperial Guard Omnibus: Volume 1, I haven't read any of the Warhammer 40K books, but have been meaning to as I like military science fiction. I also got The Man With the Golden Torc, the story line looks good and I've liked a lot of Green's other stuff, not all, but a lot.

Of course, I still have 5 books that just arrived at the library anhd more coming...help.

I've been attempting avoiding buying books, but nevertheless have gotten The Heaven Tree Trilogy: The Heaven Tree, the Green Branch, the Scarlet Seed, in a HC omnibus edition; the two newest J.D.Robb novels in audio form for feeding my popcorn reads needs :), and the first volume in Carol Berg's Collegia Magica series - The Spirit Lens for my Nook.

Some books don't even require shelves - those on my ipod and Nook!

Just received a review copy of The Silent Land by Graham Joyce - one of my favorite authors. Very excited! The book is already out in the UK and will be released in the US next March.

Did some early holiday shopping today since our local Borders is closing and has their entire inventory at 20% off - bought some cool books for nieces, nephew, and in-laws, and also couldn't resist a present for me: The Graveyard Book, which is finally out in paperback. Yay!

Found Norse Code (a book I've been looking for) at one of my 2 favorite used book stores this week, and also came across 4 Warhammer 40K omnibus editions and I'd been planning to try these as their supposed to be good violent, action military science fiction (and I know use the "science fiction moniker loosely as some will call the military science fantasy" LOL). I already had Imperial Guard Omnibus: Volume 1 to that I added Ravenor: The Omnibus (Warhammer 40,000), Space Wolf: The First Omnibus (Warhammer 40,000), Space Wolf: The Second Omnibus and The Ultramarines Omnibus (Warhammer 40,000). That's a lot without having read any, but the ranged from $1.50 to $3 each... I'm weak, no will power at all.

I've received a handful of books in the last week or so:

- Stranger Things Happen by Kelly Link (I've only read one story by her so far, but that one blew me away, so I'm looking forward to this one)
- Brave New Worlds: Dystopian Stories, an anthology of dystopian stories edited by John Joseph Adams (whose anthos have rarely let me down)
- The Horns of Ruin by Tim Akers (who I've never read, but this book looks promising)
- Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card (his new YA fantasy)
- Elfsorrow and Shadowheart (Legends of the Raven, #2), books 1 and 2 in the second "Raven" series by James Barclay (the first trilogy was so-so action fantasy but did get a lot better in the last book, so I have hopes for this second series)

My to-be-reviewed shelf is getting a bit packed again. By my latest calculations, in order to get everything read in time and still have a semi-functional family life, I'll have to reduce my sleeping hours to... um... divide by two, hold the three... minus 4 hours?! That can't be right.

- Book of Secrets by Chris Roberson (which I picked because it looks so different from most other things I read)
- Passion Play by Beth Bernobich (because I read an impressive short story by her on tor.com)

We've also been buying books for Christmas. Mostly for my brother in law, who is also an avid sci fi & fantasy reader. I also happen to know that my wife bought me Xeelee: An Omnibus: Timelike Infinity, Raft, Flux, Ring, though I haven't been allowed to touch it.

My brother in law is getting Foundation, Redemption Ark, I Am Legend, Midshipman's Hope and a whole slew of Star Wars novels, including Vector Prime.

I can't mention my wife's gifts here, though, at the risk of her browsing goodreads in the next few hours (we're opening presents tonight).

The Borders near my parents' house is going out of business so everything in the store is on sale. So of course, I *had* to stop in. I picked up:

Paladin of Souls by Lois Bujold - I haven't read The Curse of Chalion yet but I've loved the Miles Vorkosigan books so much that I have faith that I'll want the sequel to Chalion when I finish it :)

The Secret History of Fantasy, an anthology edited by Peter S. Beagle that contains stories by a bunch of my favorite authors (Gaiman, McKillip, LeGuin, among others)

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn, which I've picked up in the store and put back down again at least fifteen times over the past few years; I figured at 40% off it was time to actually give it a shot :)

and Ophelia Joined the Group Maidens Who Don't Float: Classic Lit Signs on to Facebook because it was only $1 and it looked funny!
