I don't have that kind of patience/self-control....but it sounds like a good plan. "

I too am well past 35, even doubled. I now find libaries are my friends, I haven't room any more to store all the books I read. Apart from tiring of shipping them from the UK to Canada, Canada to the US and then back again. The last move I got rid of 75% of my books.

I've started it and so far am finding it pedestrian and the premise a little hard to swallow. The whole water shortage thing was done far better in Dune.
Marty, I bought a Nook partly for the same reason. I have boxes of books in my kids' attics. And tons of them on my shelves at home. But there's something homey about lots of books.

(Okay, I also bought Lion's Heat by Lora Leigh, which is a fairly explicit romance, so I'm not admitting that.)
I've received some truly droolworthy review books in the last few weeks... to the point where I have trouble deciding what to read next! Here they are, more or less in order of release date (which is probably also the order in which I'll end up reading them):
The Dervish House by Ian McDonald
The Third Bear by Jeff VanderMeer
The Bird of the River by Kage Baker
Imager's Intrigue by L.E. Modesitt Jr.
The Last Page by Anthony Huso
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
Twelve by Jasper Kent
Speculative Horizons by Patrick St-Denis
Empress of Eternity by L.E. Modesitt Jr.
All of these should get reviews on FanLit on or near the release date, and I usually cross-post them here in case you don't follow that site.

I added a few of these to my ever burgeoning 'to read' list! Will wait for your reviews, Stefan.
So Sanderson is starting a multi-book series in addition to hopefully finishing Jordan's multi-book series? I really liked the Sanderson I've read, but to begin collecting another series.... I don't know.
I haven't read it yet, but my FanLit colleague Bill, who also got an early review copy, loved it. His taste is usually pretty close to mine, so that's encouraging. As for the rest of Sanderson's books: I really liked Elantris, but thought Warbreaker was just so-so. Mistborn was okay for the most part, but could probably have lost about 300-400 pages, especially in book 2 and the first half of book 3. But yes, now a 10 book series... that's a long commitment.

The Lions of Al-Rassan by GGK (mmp)
Restoration by Carol Berg (mmp)
A Sorcerer's Treason: A Novel of Isavalta
The Usurper's Crown: A Novel of Isavalta
The Firebird's Vengeance : A Novel of Isavalta
The last three in hardcover.

I just ordered [book:The Lions of al-Rassan! And Transformation, the first book in that Berg series! I'm not even going to check out the other three you mentioned! Sure as shootin' I'll be tempted to buy them.

I was reading an interview, He has written quite a few books before tackling Wheel of Time, they are being slowly released to the Public

I have yet to read a Kay novel I didn't like. :)

Isavalta is calling you . . . Sorcerer's Treason was wonderful.

You're evil, woman!
I have the Isavalta books on my shelf, unread. Good to read the positive reaction here.
I, too, am a huge GG Kay fan and The Lions of al-Rassan is one of my favorites.
Have not read anything by Carol Berg but have started picking up her books when I see them at used outlets.
Lots to look forward to!

Wow, Jon, that is a great haul! Lots of my favorites on that list...usually don't see books of that caliber on used bookshop shelves, anywhere...enjoy!

I'm blessed to work within a mile of a Half Price Bookstore in Westport. I've been amazed by the quality of their stock (both paperback and hardcover) and the versatility of their inventory. I always find something to buy, but not necessarily what I was looking for when I entered the store. :)

Maybe I'll manage to get home early enough tonight to do a little reading. Happily it's short.

Boy, does that sound familiar. I always manage to find things to buy, sometimes things I didn't even know existed!

And to prove my commitment, other than The Adventure of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle (which I claim doesn't really count), this is the first physical print book I have purchased since February of last year.
Janny - Your publisher needs to consider ebook formats other than Kindle! :)

I'm almost positive this one isn't out in any ebook format. :( I have a Nook, but I bought the Kindle ones that are available and downloaded their software and read on my computer. It was nice.

Random - the later volumes in the series are issued for all formats, not just the Kindle. On query, my editor tells me the older books require more work to format (and HarperCollins UK does not stint, they do a good job). I have asked to have all of the series in that format, and was told, the earlier books are 'in the queue' -- demand will push them forward.
Let the publisher know of your interest. That could speed things along. (Make sure you tell HarperCollins UK - that is the parent publisher).

Sweet. I've only been able to find the ones available at Amazon in Kindle format. Do you have a distributor handy you could point me towards?

And, Kerry, thank you for taking the moment and looking that up.

If you type Janny Wurts in the search box, it brings up all the ebooks available in this series. You can read them on the Adobe Digital reader, and maybe the text is available in epub or it could be converted for the Nook.

I live in CT and I was able to download it from the Waterstone site in the UK.

Got a replacement copy of Going Postal cause I was dumb and left it somewhere.
Dust of Dreams
The Film Club: A Memoir
Slaughterhouse-Five
Homicide Special: A Year with the LAPD's Elite Detective Unit

A 1965 edition of Dune and a 1976 edition of Children of Dune. Sadly, the middle of the trilogy was missing. Its too bad, because the books don't even look as if they've been read!
A 1991 edition of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and a beautiful 1960 hardcover of To Kill A Mockingbird.
I had a wonderfully nerdy day!

The Hollow Crown by Diana Pharaoh Francis
I gathered all the loose change that appeared when cleaning/packing up the old place, added it to the change in my book jar (yes, I have a book jar - used to be a ceramic book pig, but she broke...), dumped it in the Coinstar machine for an Amazon gift certificate, and bought myself some housewarming presents:
The Curse of Chalion by Bujold (I loved the Miles books so much, figured I'd give her fantasy a try)
Replay by Ken Grimwood
Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff, for another group's July read
Naamah's Kiss by Jacqueline Carey
and The Curse of the Mistwraith, which I can't wait to start!
Four of the five arrived today, and for whatever reason Amazon is shipping Mistwraith separately (should arrive in a day or two).

Wow! You had a chunk of change, didn't you?

Shel - was it a reseller listed on Amazon, or a new copy from Amazon (helps for me to know if stocking is low - I can flag that to the appropriate desk and get it remedied.)
A new copy - I just got an email from them that it's shipping now and should arrive shortly, so it must be back in stock :)

A whole peanut butter jar full :)

Thanks for taking the moment to let me know. (and I loved Curse of Chalion, too)
I, too, bought some of Bujold's fantasy and now that I've read the Miles' books, I'm confident I'll like her fantasy books as well. (Haven't read them yet, though).
Just received an advance copy of Sympathy for the Devil, a multi-author anthology with stories about the devil, edited by Tim Pratt. It features some great authors and looks pretty good.
